  • Worth it just for the battery and charger?

    • Not really as the charger cant fast charge batteries. So you can't use any of the larger/higher capacity batteries on it.

  • Considering the comparable drill skin is $89, comparable battery(1.3Ah) & charger combo is $79 or charger alone is $69, I think its a great deal

I'd only get the brushless one.

    • Why? How is brush less that much better?

        https://www.quantumdev.com/brushless-motors-vs-brush-motors-…

        Brushed motor

        Advantages
Simplified wiring: Brush motors can be wired directly to DC power and control can be a simple as a switch.
        Low cost
        Disadvantages
        Less efficient
Electrically noisy: The switching action of the commutators constantly creating and breaking inductive circuits creates a great deal of electrical and electromagnetic noise.
Lifespan: As they are in perpetual physical contact with the shaft, brushes and commutators wear out.

        Brushless Motor

        Advantages
Long lifespan: No brushes to wear out
low maintenance: No brushes to replace
        High efficiency
        Disadvantages
High initial cost: Need for commutating device like an encoder and a drive or controller

        • I dont think Ryobi brushless technology is ahead of their brushed technology.

If you compare their brushless impact wrench (280nm) to their brushed impact wrench (360nm), the brushless version has less power and cost more.

It's a no brainer to go for the brushed version in that case, even if you do have to change the brushes in 10 years time for $2.50.

I had a look today, the model in the kit is slightly different to the $89 drill only one… slightly less mm wood it can go through - 32mm vs 36mm and it doesn’t have the LED light. FYI.

  • Dropped in to Bunnings Oxenford on Sunday, I got a staff member to check stock, sold out Australia wide (or maybe Qld wide).

    Too slow :-(

    • Sold out anywhere near me in VIC. Would have been worth it just for the battery I think.

  • Was some stock in Tasmania. Not a bad tool box drill, a little heavy, but not fussed for the asking price.

  • plenty of stock in Coffs harbour this afternoon

  • Plenty of stock in ACT Belconnen.
