  • haha, this computer looks like it came from my uni

    • yeah, most of these come from ex-government & educational agencies. Which are generally sold after a 3 year lease. Expect these machines to have received Business Hours 9am to 5pm use-over the last three years. Fear not these HP and Dell business PC's are very reliable. I've experienced very few faults with them.

Note I can generally source these for approximately $120-140 each from auctioneers or direct.

      • Agreed - and if they came from govt then you know hardly any works been done on them probably only solitaire and mines. lol

I dare say the only ones to look out for are the Ultra small form factors which normally sit in a confined space with minimal air circulation.

      • where can you buy them direct? im after a base for a htpc in particular..
        cheers

  • Looks identical to the one sitting on my desk now.

  • No Operating System. Adds to the effective price unless installing Linux.

    • the seller is assuming a business or IT Dept already has the recovery discs or images for them ;-)

  • similar spec, similar price, it is not a bargain unless price drop down to $140

  • my work paid about $1200 a machine for these a few months ago, LOL

    • Few months ago? Are you serious? You can get better spec for under $500-$600 new from Dell.

      Something like this
      http://www.dell.com/au/business/p/vostro-230s/pd?oc=t220301a…

      • Yeah my IT manager cant spell IT let alone have a clue about it. Told them time and time again they are pissing money down the drain, here is one you will love. They bought $3000 touch screen wall mounted PCs…then had me disable the touch screen feature….WTF

I informed them they can buy the same thing without a touch screen for half the cost…but they bought them anyway. Consistently doing stupid crap like that, you get tired of telling them they are wasting money so I just let them these days.

They also buy machines outright rather than lease them so every 4 years they replace the entire fleet buy BUYING all new gear rather than leasing it and swapping out the old and bringing in the new, yet they do that with the big Xerox work centres and dont see the connection….

        • which dept are you in?

  • The optiplex with XP Pro would be a better deal if you required the O/S

  • What realistically is the most suitable low-profile PCI-E graphics card you can fit into one of these machines, bearing in mind the 240W PSU?
