$100, since it is one credit per card

  • Maxed out. Damn

  • I have saved it on 4 credit cards, will use two and two can give to someone else who wants.. Sydney CBD or Zetland flight centre will do.. And no I don't want any hassle fee..

    • Yes please! Sydney CBD also.
I've just booked a very expensive intrepid trip through flight Centre I need to pay off and I missed registration:(

      • Maybe arrange for Hunter to buy a $500 gift card and pay him $400 cash for it.

        • Be aware of gift cards fees, if any?

    • Maybe just select two, so two others who want it can get the offer… Just saying!

  • +1

I can't believe how fast that one is gone. A bad sign for future offers?

    • +5

A lot of people use flightcentre I think. Get in early next time!

I signed up at 4.30am. Worms are nice.

  • -4

can flight centre ticket be paid by qantas point

  • +1

My email only arrived at 5:07 am, I guess I need to wake up earlier. Actually, I am on so many email lists I didn't see the email till 10am. It was buried in the pile.

  • -8

Cheers TA. Selling GC will make for some easy pocket money!

  • FS Gone. I should have checked Ozbargain before checking emails.

  • +1

I bet none of us in WA got this. Frustrating.

    • Sigh. My thoughts exactly. Bit unfair to send at 2am Perth time!

    • Managed to get this before work at 6:30am WA time.

      • +1

Same here. Early bird gets the worm(s).

  • +3

Great stuff TA (as always)! I saw the offer on an email around 4am and jumped on it and saved it on my 2 cards and woke up the wife to save it on her 2 supplementary cards!

Just did a price match over the phone (FC where $350 more expensive) and paid using 4 cards, saving a whopping $400.

    • They can split payment?

      • +3

Yeah, I just told her that my cards are about to hit their limit and need to split them. I had a feel that she was really keen to close to sale and ended up splitting the payments over the phone.

Also, I got them to waive of the .92% amex credit card surcharge as well.

    • correct me if my memory was wrong: they have around 3% surcharge for AMEX?

      • +1

Nope. their website states its .92% for amex and 2.5% for diners club. either way, a price match should be on the final price inclusive of all costs. Nothing on top

  • Maxed out.

  • -1

If anyone in Perth has multiple registrations and is willing to help me out - please PM me

  • Forgot to sign up on my second card and missed out, only myself to blame :(

  • Can you price match if flight is originating from outside Australia?

    • -1

You can provide written airfare quotes from:

      Other Australian travel agencies
      Airlines; and
      Other Australian-registered businesses.

So they can do price match

    • No. Must be originating from Australia.

  • Damn missed this. Looks like there are some selling in gumtree so I might just buy there

  • Would this work? Buy 2 x Flight Centre $500 egift cards online with 2 different registered Amex cards (is there a surcharge?), and then use them early next year to book a non refundable $1000 hotel stay (in April so don't want to book too early) I understand to use egift cards, this has to be done over phone or in store…is that right?

  • -1

    Just tried. Limit is reached.

  • Just confriming you can spend the $500 in multiple trnasactions (eg: 5x $100) and still get the offer, as long as you spend the total of $500 by the 4 Dec?

You do not need to spend $500 in one go?

    • i dont think so. you do need to spend $500 in one go. people have a few cards so they split payments ( multiple transactions of $500)

      • +1

        "in one or more transactions"

      • Definitely don't need to spend in one go, I booked two $300 transactions on one card and receive the $100 credit back.

  • -4

Wow this offer went quick! Probably one person with 20,000 amex cards that took all the registrations lol…

  • Just tried purchasing the egift card online and received the following message
    "Your purchase has FAILED.

If you would like to speak to a gift card customer service team member please call 1300 554 268."

However I received the Amex credit confirmation e-mail and the charge is pending on my Amex online account. Is anyone experiencing the same?

    • Mine went through but no AmEx email as yet…

      • Did u finally receive any email from AMEX?

        • +1

Yep it came thru about 2 hours after I made the purchase. No email for the one activated in the app tho normally

        • I haven't received email from AMEX yet either; bought giftcard online. I also have not received giftcard email - just an invoice email

          • +1

@FsYK: received my amex email. still waiting on gift card from flight centre.

    • did you get flight center invoice in the email

      • Yes the invoice email came through almost instantly

        • then you shall be ok, plz report back once you had the cash back

          • @reacher: Yep cashback has been credited to my account this morning

    • I still cannot purchase a FC GC online. I get the same error message as mentioned above.

Will probably pop into a physical store tomorrow (Sunday) and get one there.

    • I'm having same issue, AMEX pending but no email from Flight centre after one day, called them and they said declined and now waiting for escalation. Did you get the eGift Card from FC yet?

  • Just bought one ticket FC online today and get confirmation e-mail from Amex.

    • Damn. Didn’t work for me. Using Firefox. Might try with iPhone now. Maybe it is an OS or browser issue.
Gift Card link for the lazy. Please let us know if you were successful and on what platform and or browser.

Edit: failed on my iPhone. I was using my CBA Amex which is about to expire so that may be a reason.

      • +1

FYI, I am an idiot. I used the three numbers on the BACK of my Amex as the CVV instead of the four numbers on the FRONT of the card. DOH.

      • You can do it in store today, well done. Hihi!

  • +4

Purchased a gift card online yesterday morning. Amex confirmation came through straight away and the eGift card came through this morning (23 hours later)
Didn't get charged an Amex surcharge

    • +1

^ Got my statement credit showing already

      • me too!

    • what's the difference betweening buying gc online and in-store? surcharge?

      • I just bought it in the store 30 minutes ago. Surcharge for a $500 GC was $4.60. I also got the email from Amex straight away. I could not buy them online so was forced to do it this way. I suspect it was because my Amex card was the CBA one which expires at the end of October (ie tomorrow).

        • Thanks!

  • do fc e gift cards expire if so when?

    • +1

Three years from date of purchase

      • thanks i should have registered more of my cards if i knew that lol

  • Anyway getting past FC $10 service charge for booking overseas tickets via AirAsia?

I need to book 5 tickets within Asia (none travel from or to Australia) but FC website chargeing me $10 service fee each time.

So better to book on Air Asia without service fee.

Looking at price beat rules, FC only price beat AirAsia flights out of Australia so wont take $10 service charge off?

  • Wonder if is possible to pay for cruise excursions and drinks packages through flight centre when original booking done direct with cruise company

They already denied me in one location but asking incase they’re lying

  • Used my voucher in store yesterday to price beat some flights - the girl mentioned that they have recently changed their price beat procedure (they now have to send screenshots to head office and get their approval) in preparation for them phasing out the price beat offer altogether.

    • That's my experience when I price beat last week too—it took about an hour for them to get back to me.

  • For those looking for a way to use this (it just happened to work for us on a trip we were planning anyways)

    • Return trip 2 people on Virgin to a destination that costs $119 each way = $476
    • $19.90 booking fee
    • $4.56 merchant fee for AmEx

    Total: $500.46

I challenge anyone to get closer to $500 without a gift card purchase :-)

Just booked 4 of us to visit family in January for $800.92 (2 cards), would have cost $952 to book direct with Virgin.

    • Nice, although tell them to stick their 'booking fee' next time and price match something.

      • But if I price-matched I wouldn't have hit $500 ;-) And like I said, we needed to book this trip anyways

        • I am sure you could find another $40 to spend something on there haha

          • +1

@knobbs: Ew, you mean go in to a store and talk to people?

  • +1

Just an FYI. I bought some business class flights to Europe yesterday and the price they quoted me was ~$5,900 (MEL-AMS, LON-MEL). I did a search on Skyscanner and got the same flight but for $5,398 (via BestJet.com) and so after having to log in to BestJet and clicking through to the end (but not paying of course), I then had to take a snapshot and email it to my FC person and she had to then email her bosses to get approval to use the lower price.

This was approved 30 minutes later.

One thing I DID not know of though was that I had to pay for a $49 per person 'fee' which was their 'Captain's Value' price drop protection thing. The impression I got was that I had to pay for it as I went through a human being to get this priced up.

It was a bit annoying to lose out on $98 but as I was paying this across 5 Amex cards (for the Amex deal) and the rest on a Visa (as it had less % card charge), I could not really complain.

Another thing to note for those buying FC flights is that if you are using someone else's AMEX card but that are not there, the card will not be accepted by them. Instead there is a nifty option for them to be SMS'd a link to a payment facility where they just wack in $500 against their card for processing. The FC person will then have to send in another link for the second $500 Amex card and so on until it is all done.

Overall I think I saved about $379 (via 5 Amex Cards less merchant fees and that $49pp flight protection) by going to FC. I also have the option to get my money back in difference if I find a flight cheaper that the price I paid. This will be given out in vouchers and will probably have lots of conditions attached to them.

    • I paid in-store over 4 different cardholder names, and was accepted. My partner and I were in store though.

      • Did you have to get that Price protection fee thing?

        • No I opted out. The travel agent asked me about it, and I decided against it.

          • +1

@lilkid28: Damn, my travel person implied that it was mandatory to me due to the price matching and personal service. I wonder if she was BSing me.

            • @danielh: That's what the first travel agent told me, she said I need to pay $19 per person because of the personal service. I said no thanks then went onto another FC and they didn't ask to charge that fee. I went to pay and used my partner's cards without any problems… They also did not charge the surcharge in the end.

I think it really depends on who you get on the day!

            • @danielh: You have to realise you're dealing with FC here..

            • @danielh: It's bullshit, no way is that fee mandatory. I've never paid it.

    • You definitely don't have to take up any of there overpriced package additions. Only the 3rd @ $99 is of value if booking certain accommodation with them as you get a $150 discount.

Also the price difference you don't get back in cash, you get it back in flight center gift cards…

    • The FC rep tried to sell me Travel insurance which I declined and she didnt even bother to ask for the names on the cards.

I used 4 cards, 2 under my name and 2 under my partner's… but she didnt even bother to ask for it!

  • Purchased Gift Card online over the weekend, CBA Amex, received the $100 credit already.

    • Thanks for that update. I got a physical gift card on Monday and the transaction is still 'pending' on my app. I just hope that when the $100 credit flows through that it will still make it as opposed to hitting a 'this card is deactivated' sort of thing.

      • Got my $100 credit overnight of the 31 October (although the CBA app implies it was credited on 30 October). I suspect that the credit will come as soon as that 'pending' status is cleared.

    • Would be interesting to see what happens to mine given I've only bought it like 30 minutes ago. Oops.

  • Trying to buy a $500 egift card but keep getting the "Your purchase has FAILED." error message. Driving me nuts. Tried and failed on Chrome, iexplorer and Safari so far. I'm speculating that FC have tweaked their system to reject all AMEX payments. Anyone bought any egift cards successfully in the last 24 hours?

    • +1

I might suggest you just pop into an actual store and do it. Probably faster. Just also wanted to check that you are putting in the correct four digit CCV number from the front of you Amex card in as well. I tried using my three digit number in the back (doh) and so just popped into a physical store the next day after constant failures.

      • Thank for the tip. Thought I'd bypass getting charged credit card processing fees by buying online. Did you get charged the 0.92% fee or whatever it is when you bought your gift cards in-store?

        • +1

Paid $504.60 for a $500 gift card. Physical GC in store.

    • Same happened to me but got an email from Amex that I had redeemed my offer and upon checking, the $500 debit was sitting in my Amex account as ‘pending’. Rang Flight Centre Gift cards dept. and they had to reverse the payment.

      • That sucks. Thankfully for me no FC payment is pending under my AMEX account. Hence why i reckon FC tech dudes have a script that goes if payment method=amex, then reject.

        • +1

I bought 2 over the past 3 days with no probs.

          • @Peck: So did you buy 2 successfully via online after the initial GC dept reversal?
I've had 1 card being declined and now waiting for them to ring me back. Don't want to proceed with another online attempt if it's just going to be the same issue.

            • +1

@cheapfab: Yes 2 sucessful after 1 (different card) rejection.

        • I've bought 5 gift cards online over the last two weeks without any issues. Thank you AMEX and Flight Centre.

  • -1

Ignore. Sorry, didn't see the thread above.

Did anyone have trouble buying the gift card online? I keep getting the following error message:

    Your purchase has FAILED.

If you would like to speak to a gift card customer service team member please call 1300 554 268.

    • I just tried to buy an egift card online. I got the same error message. $500 is in Amex pending transaction.

      Your purchase has FAILED.
If you would like to speak to a gift card customer service team member please call 1300 554 268.

      • You might want to double check your AMEX transactions to see if they have charged it. It was pending on my card, and I had to call 1300 765 982 to reverse it (not 1300 554 268).

It appears other people are able to purchase online. I ended up going instore to buy it, and had to pay a 0.92% surcharge.

        • I had exact same problem.

        • +1

Thanks lookwithin and Peck for the response, I called 1300 554 268 yesterday, spoke to a helpdesk staff, he said the fund is in pending but it will drop off in a couple of days. $500 is still in pending on my account today. I will call tomorrow to get it reverse as I just got home.

lookwithin, thanks for providing the correct tel no to call to reverse the transaction.

  • A little OT so mods feel free to remove.
Does anyone have a good FC travel agent?
Mine has since finished working at FC and is travelling the world. But I'm in the market for a new travel agent (especially so I can use this deal!) :)
