Went to recharge this morning, and saw Telstra has increased the value of their Weekend+ and Cap+ offers.

Cap+ Offers

$30 = $220 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 400MB data.
$40 = $510 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 800MB data.
$50 = $510 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 800MB data.
$60 = $940 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 3GB data.
$80 = $940 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 3GB data.
$100 = $1400 of BONUS Cap+ Credit and 3GB data.

Weekend+ Offers

As well as normal free standard talk and text on weekends,

$50 = $350 Any Day+ BONUS credit, and 2GB data.
$60 = $350 Any Day+ BONUS credit, and 2GB data.
$80 = $720 Any Day+ BONUS credit, and 3GB data.
$100 = $900 Any Day+ BONUS credit, and 4GB data.

http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/prepaid-offers/ has all the details.

Telstra gives the best coverage and with more value for prepaid, what's not to love.

PS. Might be of interest to those coming off contract from the old Three deal, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12764. If you are like me, I got sick of 3's reception, roaming, and slow speeds, but still want a lot of data allowance and good value cap

  • I usually buy the $30 recharge because it comes with 150MB of data, but I never come close to using my talk/text credit.

Is there an option that is cheaper or gives you more data and less talk/text?

    • There is a $30 Cap+ offer which I accidentally left out. Comes with $220 Bonus cap and 400MB date. Updated the OP

      • Can you use that $220 to buy additional data packs, sms packs, mms packs etc?

        • Nope, the $220 is just the value of the text/calls you're getting. You can't use it somewhere else.

        • so say you bought $40 credit. You get $40 and $510 bonus, is that right? I understand you can't use $510 for anything but only calls/text. What about the $40 credit? Can you use it to buy additional data?

        • Yeah that's right. You can use that $40 credit and buy extras like the browsing pack.

        • To add to your point. When using the 30 cap + you can use 30 for any service from telstra. Buy a data pack, foxtel or ringtones. Foxtel cost 14 so its good value

One thing teltra network is the best of not in the world. I use many provider before in australia, asia and europe and now using telstra i wont use anything else.

I can watch youtube with desire tether on my laptop without buffering thats how fast it is. And i can watchyoutube on my underground car park. Thats how good the reception. I only wish they fix their stupidbilling system otherwise perfect.

  • Sorry, I can't seem to work this out. On the Weekend+ offer $50 says it only has 100MB data?? Where does the 2GB come from as noted above? Can anyone enlighten me?

EDIT: Sorry ignore me — my proxy had an old cache

  • What are the call rates?

  • Strange that the $40 and $50 recharge gives you the same value and the $60 and $80 is the same as well

  • Well, looks like I'll be moving to Telstra prepaid once I finish with my Voda contract in a few months.

  • I recommend you all go to the telstra website and look at the fine print folks.
Also, dont jump ship just yet. Give the competitors time to come up with something better. They always do!

    • It's more than just a better "offer", though. I've been waiting for Voda to deliver on their better offer (vs the Telstra plans), and I've just sorely disappointed. So, I'd readily jump ship just to get better coverage (which I've experienced from my Telstra work mobile).

  • To all non Telstra user out there, you really can't compare Telstra to Voda and Optus. Its like compareing Apple and orange, the reason………you have to use it to believe it. It is just so fast. I always like to use google map for speed testing, with Voda and Optus, it took god know how long to load the map, with telstra took less than 10 seconds depend on where you are. Try this in a Telstra store and compare, yuo will understand what I mean.

  • Looks like I'm changing.

What's the best way (&deal) to get a sim and phone?

Silly question; how would a non-850mhz phone go on telstra..?

    • Not sure, some people said in city works and outter region area need 850. I always suggest my friends to get a 850mhz phone. I know it is limited in choice. But again buy an top range phone and use on optus or voda is like driving a skyline in a 50 zone. At lease and 850mhz phone on telstra is unleashing the phone's full protential, and if you have the extra cash to spend, you can always run an iphone4 on it.

  • How is this compare to optus:
    https://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=tru…

    $30 for $300 value + 500Mb data + $100 for the first 6 months?
Note the values in optus can be used for overseas call but not the Telstra's

    • +1

"The Cap+ offer is loaded with BONUS credit for standard national calls, texts and MMS to Australian and overseas numbers, plus BONUS data. To use in 30 days." —> I think you can use your Telstra credit for international calls as well.
