XYZ 3D Scanner (Version 1) $200 (Was $399) Pick-up or Delivered @ Australian Geographic

30

Version 1 (Verson 2 has now been released), but a good price considering these are still selling for $300+ on Ebay.

Reviews are mixed and it seems to have some compatibility issues, but might be worth the punt if you want an entry level 3D Scanner

If you are looking for a free (providing you have a camera - a recentish smartphone will be fine) and effective alternative see this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4NTf0hMjtY.

    • Looks like a good tutorial. What are options for 3d printing. Ive always wanted a mini me figure. Could you just do that scan and drop a file into a 3d printer or send the file off for it to be printed.

      • If we can make mini me's then nobody will need kids anymore

What I really want is to post an item to someone, have them duplicate it and return it. Happy to pay as I CBF. There must be services like this out there. I guess trust is an issue.

Someone lost a little knob on my light and its annoying without it :/

If you happen to be near Melbourne CBD you can try Officeworks - they do scan only or scan/print, send them an email, maybe they'll do it all via post.

Or maybe there's a similar commercial operation near you.

Another alternative: Sugru - You can get it elsewhere, currently Sugru passed it's BBD is on sale at fixthatthing.

  • Don’t buy, these are useless. You’ll get better results using a photogrammetry app and your phone.

  • Deja Vu.. back in the days when people did 2D scanning, there were hand scanners with sensors that you'd roll across a flat page to scan the content. They weren't very good if you weren't consistent with the rolling / scanning speeds. Then flat-bed scanners became much cheaper to obtain and rest was history.

Wonder if these 3D "Hand scanners" are also susceptible to the same issues as the original 2D hand scanners?
