Just got an email from Flybuys offering 25,000 Flybuys points for this deal, which is roughly $125 worth shopping at Coles or can be converted to Velocity points during a 15% bonus offer or something!

Cant do much as both lines are under contract :/

    • How can I jump on this?

      • you need to be targeted

        • -1

          Please give me link

    • Also wondering how we can jump on this!

  • Optus live chat confirmed the bonus headphones and wireless charge pad, they just seem to be a bit slow updating their site. It's not even on Huawei's own promotion site yet https://www.huaweipromotions.com.au/ Does anyone know what the redemption process is like?

    • +1

It's on there now. Spewing it's not the new FreeBuds 2.

      • yeah, the bonus is getting worser, still remember few years ago I signed up huawei p9 with optus and had bonus of huawei watch.

        • UK gets free watch and wireless charger..

  • why is there no twilight or emerald green anywhere?

Looks like an awesome phone, two things holding me back though, EMUI and updates…

    • Yep. The update is horiibly slow. I'm using mate pro 10 and I just recieve update last week.(its 3-4 month late compare with Allphone/mobileciti model).

      • ah I see, that sucks, it's a shame there's no bridge between great hardware and great software, it seems like it would do really well but no company is doing it.

I don't see anyone complain about 128gb. It's weird. These day should have option up to 512gb like Samsung. It's a beast phone and I love 3 camera setup but really, 128gb? And nano memory card is just too new

    • 'these days' ? my storage needs haven't changed at all

      • I understand some people don't use much storage. That why I said there should have option to choose.

        • still happily on a 64gb pixel 2XL with unlimited google photos upload in original quality. One can argue the same can be done with the Huawei (or any android) although they compress the photos and videos a little.

          • @Penpinch: The thing with Google photo, if you upload 10G into it, can you easily download it back? I haven't try much but the Last time I check, I can only download 1 at a time.

  • Confirmed with the Optus Rep that this is not a Dual SIM version, which is a shame. My plan was to stick another SIM in the other tray, but considering this doesn't roam, this is a deal breaker.

    • That’s odd. The specs on the Optus site say that it has the Nano card expansion, which is where the second SIM card would go.

      • +1

The phone is the same hardware and is physically capable of dual SIM but is disabled via firmware. If it's really important to you, it is possible to flash the dual sim firmware and enable it.

  • This is going to be my next phone confirmed. I already have a great optus deal and dont feel like paying that rrp over 24 monthes. Might have to wait until better prices come out.

  • But emerald green though :((( Why must you trouble me so, Huawei..
    S6 edge indecision flashbacks

  • Anyone knows when the display sets usually appear in telco?

  • -6

just got back from China and the word is the street is that the pro 20 is plagued with problems mainly because they use 2nd grade ram which is much cheaper than what Samsung or Apple use - expense for an over-marketed second rate product.

    • I was reading earlier that benchmarks suggest this is the most powerful consumer android phone

  • +1

Single Sim is a deal breaker for me .. Otherwise I would jump at this ..

  • So I've been with Telstra for over 20 years and I was hoping Optus would have some kind of churn incentives. Totally brick walled there (Used online chat system). Maybe one of the stores doing Optus plans with this handset will do more for a churning customer ?

  • Is anyone aware of the likelihood of this phone having Optus branding all over it, an Optus splash screen when booting up and/or Optus bloatware pre-installed on the phone?

    • +1

I tried the display model in the Hobart store yesterday and it didn’t seem to have any Optus branding. I hope that’s how it stays for my version when it arrives!

  • I really need some advice here. I just finished 24 months Optus contract with Galaxy S7. And just switched to Kogan 30 days on one of the new customer deal. However, looks like Optus coverage and network is better in my opinion. It will be expired in 3 days. I am very keen on a new phone as I will give the samsung to my mom. Should I just switch back to Optus on this 24 months contract deal or should I wait a bit for other deals to come and in the meantime, port out to Lebera with their current 180 days offer. Some ozbargainers say preordering is not an ozbargain's style, and also Single Sim is a drawback compared to dual sim from outright model. I've never used a dual sim phone before, single SIM seems to work well for me, not sure about the future need thouhg. I think 50gb and unlimited everything is future proof for even 2 years later. Should I sign up for this? Considering I can get the code for student as well.

The way I saw it was I’m on a $40 Telstra plan which I would be unlikely to change over the next two years. $76.50 a month for the Huawei Mate 20 pro Optus deal would be an extra $36.50 a month. 24x $36.50=$876 for the phone effectively. Because I’m pre-ordered I’ll sell the FreeBuds for around $100 or more. $876-$100 = $776 for a phone that’s currently listed for $1599. That’s a bargain in my book 😀

    • How urgently do you need the phone? If you aren't interested in the freebuds or the wireless charging pad you could wait a few months for the price to come down. You could probably pick this plan up for $65 for students a month after Christmas (just guessing).

      • I've been putting off getting a new phone for ages. I'm still very happy with my Samsung S4 Active and don't really "Need" the new Huawei but I felt like a change. Without the bonus items and the student pricing I would have held off for a couple of months I think. Either way I'm not going to be out of pocket much with this deal.

        • +2

Yeah I've had the s4, s5, s7 edge and been waiting for Samsung to do something great. Gave up waiting. Getting this deal.

          • @Name: looks like I will jump in the same boat haha

  • Huawei - why oh why did you go with NM memory cards……
cant use my existing 256Gb SD

  • or you could think of it this way…

pretend its a $45 BYO plan with 50GB of data and $40 handset repayments

    where you gonna get a $45 50GB plan and a mate 20 pro for $960 ($40*24)

    • free buds and wireless charger!
  • You can now jump in the huawei website and claim the freebie. They extended the claim date until the 9th of November.

    Just received my mobile then.

    • On the website it says to wait 14 days after purchase before claiming. Not sure why that is

      I might claim straightaway too

    • Thanks for the reminder. My claim is sent now also. I used the receipt in the box because it has the IMEI number for backup for them. Fingers crossed I have an approved claim soon and there are no silly redemption hiccups :)

      • If I buy online using Optus student page, how am I supposed to get the IMEI number by midnight on 9th Nov?

        • I'd use the online chat system on Optus's web page and ask if you order if you can get an advance IMEI number. It may be possible ? Otherwise use a local Optus Yes store or partner, they should be able to take your student email address. I wasn't asked for a Student ID just my edu email to get my Student deal.

          • +1

            @6828: That's fine I have a student email.
Issue was for the Huawei promo, when you click through to actually entering the details, it had the IMEI field as a required field. Didn't think you'd get the IMEI immediately/within 24hours if you ordered online. (Was looking on 8 Nov, promo was supposed to end 9 Nov midnight).

I see the Huawei Earbuds + Charger promo has been extended until 30 Nov anyway.
