I don't think that they price match coupon code…worth giving it a go?
No jbhifi wont do it. But u can do click and collect
I got JB to price match an air fryer on a similar eBay deal a couple of years ago.
I showed the sales guy the air fryer at the check out page, with the pickup location and the price.
I was just like "I can go there right now and buy it at this price, can you match it? I'd rather buy from JB than TGG"
Why? They are the same company…
http://www.techguide.com.au/news/jb-hi-fi-acquires-the-good-…
About 3 months ago I tried to get TGG to match TGG EBay store and they would not do it. Instead I stood in the store and ordered the item online. Then did click and collect. Crazy.
JB was closer and I had some JB giftcards I got at a discount that I needed to unload.
Why dont they put the Google Home Hub as well
Most probably as it's on preorder
In reading, theres bugger all difference between v2 and v3. One addition thats buried in the reviews which i'd be keen on though is the google chromecast audio integration via a software update down the track. I use chromecast audios throughout the house and they're great. Software update for the v2 would be very handy, but doubt they will. But the price seems the same, so no reason not to go for a v3 I guess (but im not upgrading mine)
As per wikipedia, only difference seems to be that v2 does 1080p @ 30fps whereas the new one does 1080p @ 60fps.
This probably means that it has a faster processor, which would approve the overall performance, but I’m speculating…
Improve
@expertreader: Yes, thanks
@expertreader: Un-deprove
Now that's an upgrade I think we would all approve of.
Still using v1 don't care about Google music and streaming
yeah not sure I'd want to stream music through my TV.
I don't think JoJo & TaTa sound any better in surround sound ;-)
More if you have your TV hooked up to your home theatre as I have. Integration with google chromecast audio is a great addition for people who will use it. I've got 4x chromecast audios, 2x google homes, 1x google home mini which makes it multiroom audio. If the standard chromecast did this too, i'd have an extra 3x areas with audio.
Might not be a selling point, but for cheap multiroom audio, its awesome and perfect and easy to use in real life.
May not make JoJo sound better…
YEah, i got a few v1's still functioning - good units.. But I find them pretty patchy, often have to power-cycle to get them to work, where as the v2, seems more reliable in that sense.
With this 20% off deal the Chromecast 3 works out cheaper than the 2 !
1% cash rewards :)
I still have two CC1s in the drawer gathering dust.
Proud of you
Happy to pay postage if you want the drawer space back…
The Chromecast 3 supports 5 GHz, Bluetooth-LE and 1080p out of the box.
If you don't want any of those (currently the use of Bluetooth is unknown, but may be for a remote later) then it's worth waiting for a better deal.
It seems that Google doesn't want to make the regular Chromecast much better or it'll beat the Chromecast 4k, which they'll hopefully do better upgrades than this for.
Yes, I’m not sure why they’re persisting with two chromecast models. Surely if you want to futureproof your purchase you’d have to go with the 4K version?
Yes, but there are markets where cost is a factor, and you may as well compete with yourself, companies have been doing this forever. Its a biy like asking why Gillette makes a disposable razor when they make the Mach 16 vibratron
Is the vibatron to capture the female market?
Is vibratron an Autobot or Decepticon?
Can already buy those fake chrome casts off aliexpress anyway so they shouldn’t be too worried
At this price, it is better to just get a Xiaomi Mibox S.
1080p out of the box.
Doesn't the 2?
Technically, yes. Due to being limited to 2.4GHz which is usually crowded and lower performance than the Chromecast 3, it's often limited to 720p instead though.
V2 specs indicate 5GHz support.
@luvpizza: Ah, thanks for the correction. The article I got the info from was wrong.
"It turns out the second-generation Chromecast also supported 5GHz WiFi. We've updated the post to reflect that."
So the real differences are Bluetooth-LE and… Not much else. They changed the trip around the antennas to get a better signal, but it's unlikely to make much difference. They also removed the magnet that the V2 had. Looks like the best Chromecast are still the V1 (if it fits) and 4k. The V1 has a larger cache than the V2 and V3, so it tends to buffer less with a bad signal.
Thanks OP, needed one to replace my CC1.
I saw that jb has the gen 2 for 49 dollars no real info on how if this is a better model.
Dunno either, never had a 2. The new one seems much faster than my 1.
Nope. Only real change between V1 and V2 is AC wifi, and V3 gets Bluetooth-LE, meaning a remote is likely in future.
The Chromecast 1 has 2GB storage for cache, the Chromecast 2 has 256MB. That means a Chromecast 2 is more likely to buffer more often, and it's unlikely they increased the memory, let alone to as high as the Chromecast 1 has.
If your Chromecast 1 fits in your TV, stick with it. They use near identical hardware and the exact same software. The main reason people bought the V2 was due to it fitting better in cramped spaces.
@NobalaKoba: My old one was starting to stutter every now and then and also dropped off the wifi a couple times so I needed to replace it.
@Jamiea: Alright.
If you want to keep using the 1st gen for 8x the storage capacity, you could add mini heatsinks for about $5, it sounds like an overheating issue.
Otherwise feel free to buy a new one, I just didn't want you thinking that the processor or anything is actually significantly better. Some people would much rather have the Gen1 than Gen2 or Gen3.
@NobalaKoba: I've been using the new one for 2 days now with no issues :D
@NobalaKoba: The v1 only supports up to 802.11n which is pretty slow - typically less than 100mbps and nowhere near its maximum of 450mbps (and who has an internet connection capable of doing either of those speeds…). That's why it had the extra storage/buffering space, or rather why the 802.11ac capable v2 didn't need it.
(In reality it's very unlikely that extra storage is used for buffering at all since it's the flash memory for the OS, not RAM.)
@ssquid: When talking about a device that streams at max 1 1080p video by itself, 100 mbps should be plenty, even a raw bluray m2ts should only be about 50 megabits per second max.
It's a bit like rewiring your house from Cat5e to Cat6 even though you only have satellite internet. You aren't going to get any big performance boost from it and for most people it's a waste of money.
Seems like Google have made new models without any real reason to do so, and people think new automatically means better and buy it.
I am hoping for better codec support in future, maybe some HEVC etc in future but that seems unlikely with how Google has been upgrading the Chromecast so far.
I do acknowledge that it supports AC wifi though, as mentioned in my previous comment where I said "Only real change between V1 and V2 is AC wifi, and V3 gets Bluetooth-LE, meaning a remote is likely in future."
For some reason that comment got negged though.
@NobalaKoba: The problem is it normally doesn't get near sustained 100mbps due to 802.11n bring used, hence increased buffering over the v2/v3. Recommending it because it can cope better with buffering that the newer devices don't experience is illogical.
The latest model supports 1080p@60fps, the older models do not. It also boots far quicker than a v1 (I don't have a v2 to test against).
Just because you have no idea, doesnt mean they arent super useful for many people (including me)
Chromecast is really useful though? It’s a cheap way for me to cast pc screen to tv and casting apps etc.
Also google plus is being shut down
I can stream Netflix from an iPhone to a Chromecast without the need to pay big bucks for an Apple TV, which I don’t need.
Exactly
Yet you paid big bucks for an iPhone?
@justtoreply: Didn't pay a cent, it's a work phone
Google home to me is worth it just for the ease of setting alarms. Not to mention it controls half my house at this point.
May not be useful for everyone, but it's compatibility with services makes it the superior product of it's type - with the possible exception of Amazon in USA.Chromecast is different though, it's an incredibly useful product that works great. Probably one of Google's best products
Do new smart TVs have built in casting?
I’ve got a Samsung nu8000 and haven’t tried casting to it.
Do I need this?
My 2 year old Sony does
My 2 year old casts all the time.
My 2 year old Panasonic tv however only works with YouTube, so not really
Every "Smart" tv from the last 3-4 years should have in built casting.
Yeah but that casting usually sucks. Crashes randomly, with very limited ability to seek through the video.
TVs with built in Chromecast, like most Sony TVs, are far superior than the options available on most other big brands (Samsung's is the worst)
In my experience, unless your TV has built in Chromecast, it's going to be pretty shit, with huge disparities between what is and isn't castable.
Thanks guys. I guess I need it
I own a 6 series bought earlier this year. No issues at all casting multiple movie formats from a windows computer or my mobile to the TV.
There can be no limitations because I link my TV to my PC and phone as a wireless display through buikit in software.
Chromecast is really only useful for TVs that aren't already 'smart'.
I'd forget about buying the chromecast because the TV already does on excellent job - you'd be wasting money on an unnecessary product.
Happy to answer any questions you may have.
I have a 2018 Samsung Nu8000 and I can’t seem to get anything to cast.
Unfortunately I fear it might be the Apple products I use and Samsung not wanting any of it.
If anyone has tips on how to cast to a new Samsung TV. Let me know please
I have a 2-3 year old sony TV running android TV and supposedly built in chrome cast.
Unfortunately google hasn't fully supported it. I can ask google home mini to share my google photos on the TV no problem. On the other hand when I ask it to play something from Netflix on TV it tells me that's not supported on android TV yet when it's clearly supported on Chromecast.
I google got a bit lazy tbh and am a bit disappointed.Casting is easy from the most common apps though - you can use the Netflix app on the phone to cast and that works fine.
Feel free to send them my way, we can never seem to have enough
Are they Chromecast Ultra's?
Yeah they do harvest your data.
But I'm not sure how they're creepy. Google Home maybe
Is it possible to stream a downloaded film to the Chromecast 3 from a computer?
Yes, search how to cast FROM VLC
Yes
Just download Universal Media Service on your PC then if your TV have WiFi/ethernet then just direct stream it. Better quality as well.
just drag the movie file in to google chrome to play it, then click cast, as simple as that, don't need extra thing
I highly recommend Videostream. It's quick, easy and shows what's happening. There's a free and premium version and the free version does everything I need.
VLC needs to convert a lot of my downloaded videos before streaming and when you or the kids are waiting it's a pain in the arse.
this sounds promising. Cast contents on your PCs via your Phones is pretty neat solution.
I can see the video quality to be good, but what about sound? can this support 5.1 or 7.2 etc?Looks like you can.
And I totally forgot about the app! https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/videostream-mobile-for-chrom…
Once you start it from your PC/Mac you can control the video from the app.
is this the new chromecast just announced?
I don't have home wifi I hotspot my Optus mobile as I'm on a decent data plan. I have unmetred Netflix and ABC iView on my phone and am wondering would this be a good casting option that wouldn't need to be connected to home Wifi? I have an older 1080p Sony TV that isn't smart capable. When I cast from my Android it requires hotspot to be turned off. Can this ChromeCast 3 be used to cast Netflix from my phone to my TV without wifi and hence remain unmetred since I'm using the netflix phone app and my mobile data?
Yes.
How would his 4g mobile connection send data to his chromecast which is waiting to receive data only from his local Wifi network?
They both need to be on the same network connection. That's like saying I can turn on netflix on my phone right now and stream to your Chromecast in your home network.
edit: unless he means his chromecast also joins his hotspot network.
No I only have the 4G connection and when I cast my Android requires the hotspot to be turned off. So I guess I can't use a Chromecast then
@Joey Jo Jo: Use an old phone to do the casting and your good one to be the hotspot
@McScotty: Good idea I have a few old phones I can put to use.
@Joey Jo Jo: I'm not 100% sure your data will go untouched by casting; I don't think the app and a chromecast pull from the same channels. Maybe test with a 20 min episode or something first.
possibly, If you have/get a secondhand wifi tablet, you could hotspot the phone, and use netflix on the tablet as your remote control / casting device.
The ~$80 xiaomi Mi Box s is probably your safest bet for netflix / chromecast compatibility, as it will add "Smart TV" features, and use your phone's WiFi hotspot when in range. If you put in a memory card or thumb drive, you could store files for offline use, the box is around the same size.
Equivalent android TV boxes usually cost $120 to $250, with the Nvidia Shield handling 4k, or you can jump up to a Bluray player / Xbox One for Smart TV features and bluray/UHD playback. Not that anyone buys blurays anymore ….
Damn - This code can't be applied to your order.
All gone now :(
looks to be restocked
Does it have Bluetooth functionality so that I can connect external Bluetooth speaker?
It'll be cool if you can connect to Bluetooth headphones.
I have a Google Chromecast 1 and 2 that I never use. I may as well get this for the hat trick.
Thanks OP. Been looking at getting a chromecast for a bit now - perfect timing.
FYI.
VLC media player on PC now supports Chromecasting local media to the Chromecast. It worked well for me.
This makes a Chromecast a good travel option if you've got a lot of local content on your laptop.
You can hook the Chromecast up to hotel WiFi and cast movies and TV shows from your laptop.
And Foxtel if you've got multiroom at home (2 boxes or more).
Makes an easy way to provide Foxtel into a bedroom for say your Mother who's visiting for 6 weeks…….

This can't be price matched at jb hifi, right?
