Thanks OP - might be time to finally activate my 1 month free Live

  • Ha, played this to death in the arcades back in the day. I remember there was an arcade in Kings Cross that had a row of eight. Great with a bunch of drunken mates. How does it translate onto a home gaming console?

    • +2

Played it a lot in a local bar/club. I have it for the Saturn. I was never a fan of playing these types of games with a controller. Needs a steering wheel.

      • Agree. On the Xbox 360, If you have the wireless steering wheel its compatible.
The game itself will play on Xbox one (it's backward compatible) but I'm not sure about steering wheel support on that platform.

        • Official 360 Wirwlesa Speed Wheel? That uses 360 controller tech to connect to console, so won’t be compatible with Xbone. But, it’s compatible with a 360-for-windows-wireless-USB-adapter!

          • @StickMan: Wait are you saying the 360 wireless adapter for Windows works on XBOX One so I can use my Xbox 360 controllers, fight sticks and racing wheel on the XBOX One?

As far as the game is concerned it's a perfect conversion with amazing widescreen graphics running at a full 60fps. The sound is spot on too.

Can I buy 1 copy of this for my family to play multi player or do I need to buy multiples? We have Microsoft Family accounts all set up.

    • +1

You can use it on 2 accounts at the same time while hooked up to LIVE. If you lead the game and disconnectvthe xbox from the internet you can then log the account in to other xboxes and keep doing it. Although only offline.

    • +1

You should be able to play it on two different Xbox One systems at the same time. Have one console set as your 'home Xbox', and the other person plays on that console. You should then be able to sign into a second Xbox One and play the game at the same time as long as you stay connected to the internet and remain signed in.

I use this method to allow my family to play the games I buy on their Xbox without requiring me to be signed in. I just have to make sure my Xbox stays connected to the internet and I can play the same game at the same time without any trouble.

There's a big "although" to this method; I'm not sure if it works for Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility titles, as when the X360 emulator starts up, it also signs you in to the virtual Xbox 360, and if it's treating the game as a digital license it may not allow you to play at the same time. YMMV on this one.

If it does work and you want to play with more, you can either buy a copy for everyone to make it easier, or buy one copy per two and perform the home Xbox switch for each pair.

  • I used to have mates that worked in an Arcade (I worked in a restaurant near them). They'd come in and get free drinks and we'd go over there after they had closed and play games. You could switch it to 'endurance mode' which would basically increase the number of laps by 10x.

So much fun but it's just not the same without an arcade cabinet for you to drift around corners with.

    Rolllliinnngggg start.

  • Damn, wish I could grab this on Playstation.

  • Still more fun playing this in the arcade :)

I disagree. Some arcade machines have 4:3 displays with poor colour and smashed to the max steering wheels and gear sticks. The home versions are crisp and vibrant on a widescreen display.

      • Well yeah but that was the look and feel when playing Daytona in an arcade back in the late 90's :D

        • The deluxe models had a better display and the home versions feel closer to this.

  • How many players can you have in offline mode?

    • 100 Battle Royale

        100 Nascar's parachute onto an island…

Oh, zagnuts. I have nearly $50 in my account but "You can’t use Xbox or Microsoft Gift Cards to purchase content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace or Xbox 360 content on the Xbox One." (https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/billing/prepaid-codes/types-o…). So I'll need to use real money to get this. That hurts. ;-)

  • is this 4k enhanced on one x?

    • no, but it still looks GREAT

  • Nooooo! Now having flashbacks of working in an arcade at the turn of the century… Daaaaaytoooona!!!!

  • -1

I always liked the arcade version because of the force feedback on the steering wheels.

Even with my own steering wheel at home you can't emulate the force feedback :(

Need to come up with excuses not to buy it….

    • Tried the emulator version on PC, graphics is quite average in that version.
    • This game is way more fun playing with people you know (like in the arcade).
    • Forza Horizon 4 taking up too much time.

Must resist from buying it… Only $4.97… tempting…

    • i'm so tempted too…… daym it!

      I just paid $3.50 for a crappy coffee………

    • +1

if you play the game 3 times then it's cheaper than playing at an arcade as normally it costs $2.

  • can't lose with manual transmission, just drop a gear on sharp turns, 2 EZ

  • Wasn't this games with gold before? That or it was on sale for like $1 or $2? I have it, but I wouldn't have paid $5 for it.

  • I loved this game as a teen, gave it a lot of gold coins!

Gotta play it on heavy-duty steering wheel and gearshift. Straight to level 3 and manual, accelerator to the floor the whole time and shift down to drift around the corners, never touch the brake. Would beat anyone who played me! Was the only game in the arcade I was really good at, hehe. Oh, this and P.O.W.

Sega Rally was another one I played often but it was a shorter track.

Level 3 is BS, too hard for me!

  • Great deal. Bought on my 360 ages ago and was so glad it came to support Xbox One!

I just wish there was a way to get this on PC or mobile… (yes I'm aware there are "other" ways but I'd be more than happy to pay).

  • +1

    I paid $2.48 on 5/09/2017.

  • If you can't play this backwards on expert, then don't even bother.

  • I've got it. Love it.
