  • I love mouldy cheese.

I think the reason it's being sold so cheap is because it has gone mouldy. 😀

  • Good price OP. Woolworths brand?

The price makes me smell fishy about this cheese…

  • Health star rating 0.5 / 5.0 ???

    • -2

Yeah I saw this a few weeks ago in-store and that stopped me buying it.

If you didn't buy this just because of the 0.5 rating then you should probably have researched that star rating system before hand, because it's stupid. Go look at what cereals like nutri grain have.

The star rating system is a farce, and whilst a good idea in theory, has been implemented so poorly that it is worse than useless - it is detrimental. The system is inherently flawed for two main reasons.
      1. Single (or limited) ingredient foods are often given a low star rating.
      2. Producers are able to artificially boost their star rating by including minute amounts of "healthy" ingredients, like vitamins and folate. This is why Milo had a health star rating of 4.5 (Source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-01/milos-4.5-health-star-…)

I think we can all agree that those numbers don't line up.

      • -6

The ingredients list isn't a farce. The cheese is made up of mostly salt and fat including the bad cholesterol ones.

        • +5

That's like saying butter is unhealthy, when it depends on serving size.
It is the ratio of ingredients in a meal that matters.

The star rating makes some sense for meals, but not for ingredients.
Yes, if you eat nothing but cheese for a meal, that is not healthy. Duh!
But by that logic, cheese is a lot healthier than carrots.

And yet this is based upon the dietary recommendations which have lead to a several hundred percent increase in the rates of diabetes in our culture? The demonisation of fat, particularly from animal sources, was largely orchestrated for ideological, rather than scientific, reasons.

          • -1

@Rayve: Wow that reason never even occurred to me. Good point!

          • @Rayve: The "demonisation of fat" comes from popular culture and the diet industry, not from any scientific advice.
The same with the current demonisation of carbs, and the demonisation of protein by Kellogg etc.

However, I'll grant that trans-fat probably is truly evil :-)

There is a recommendation to reduce saturated fat as a proportion of your fat intake, due to the association with heart disease.
Have olive oil as well as cheese, and avoid fatty junk-food, and you'll be fine.

If you look at the guidelines here, is is all quite reasonable:

            https://www.eatforhealth.gov.au/guidelines/about-australian-…

Evidence suggests Australians need to eat less: … food and drinks high in saturated fat, added sugar, …

@bargaino: The shape of any McDonald's employee (1y+ experience) or Domino pizza eaters will tell you what's wrong with cheese

4.5 star milo… its about 1/3 sugar. Unbelievable.

        • Compared to Nesquik, milo is healthy.

        • +1

Most food products manufactured here has excessive amounts of sugar. Look at the ingredient list on that Usain Bolt Hot sauce that was recently posted on here. It really should be labeled sweet sauce. The last time I checked, Tassal (Aust company) canned Salmon had the most sugar out of all the tinned Salmon brands. Salt and vinegar chips even have sugar added!

    • How many did you buy?

    • -1

What did you expect from a gross thing that's made of cow's breast milk?
Rennet is an enzyme used to curdle (EW!) cheese, and it’s made from calves’ stomach lining—meaning that this pre-cheese gloop must pass through someone else’s stomach before making it to yours.

      • and it’s made from calves’ stomach lining

So are you claiming that the manufacturer is lying about their product?

      • You're making me hungry.

Ive had these twice. One was good, the other was almost chemical tasting. Love blue cheese on a burger…

    • +1

Agree with the chemical taste, similar thing happened with the coles home brand.

  • Made from mad cows.

Delicious, try not to get too much spinal cord in the milk vats.

You're a gourmet. When I was a teenager my mother told me some Frenchmen happily eat cheese with maggots in it. I thought she was exaggerating until I saw that on TV about 3 years ago.

  • I’m a Woolworths bunch member was was actually given one of these to review. I actually don’t like blue cheese but for being mild it was very strong in taste, so I’m sure all you blue cheese lovers will love this at such a cheap price!!
