SYD, BNE, MEL to Multiple Euro Destinations, Open Jaw from $1044 Return Booked Directly @ Thai Airways

670

Many dates available for travel from SYD, MEL and BNE to Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna and Zurich. Most flights over are 21-24 hrs with a brief stopover in Bangkok. Most flights back have a ~13-17 hour stopover in Bangkok but some (mostly to Melbourne) have just a 2-3hr stopover.

Even cheaper via bestjet, etc, but if it were me I would be booking directly and paying the little bit extra.

I've flown Thai to Europe and rate it a better experience than Etihad and Emirates.

A few examples below but there are many combinations less than $1,150.

$1,050.62 - BNE-CDG 12th June, CPH-BNE 17th July
$1,044.56 - SYD-CDG 12th June, CPH-SYD 17th July
$1,201.65 - MEL-CDG 12th June, CPH-MEL 17th July

  • A350 from a lot of Aussie Ports now too. Try and get on it.

    • I went to book for flights in April. Considered Thai but everything said it was an ageing 747 for the Syd bkk leg

  • June only

    • It's not. There is a "blackout" period from June 20 to July 9 but otherwise these fares are available every second or so day throughout June to Sep inclusive.

      Another random example:
      $1,095.16 - SYD-VIE 10th July, CDG-SYD 4th September

Avoid flying out of London (or the UK in general) where practically possible. There are no taxes levied flying into the UK, but flying out, you get stung with a ~£45/$82 UK Passenger Service Charge (Heathrow, lower at other airports) and the infamously obscene £75/$142 UK Air Passenger Duty.

In comparison, the air departure taxes at Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris (to a lesser extent) are significantly lower than that of the UK. A Eurostar train ticket could be a valuable purchase depending on your circumstances.

  • Similar price from Perth too.

Royal Brunei is also around that price to LHR if not cheaper than Thai.
Ex: 11 Jul - 09 Aug to London Heathrow $1115 RBA whereas Thai is $20 more.

One stop due to the cut off Brunei - Dubai - London and their service is impeccable. Much better than Etihad in my own opinion.

    • But is it open jaw?

    • Good times with no booze on a flight

      • Just returned from Europe flying RB on Friday morning, decent airline but our last leg plane from Brunei to Melbourne got switched to a HiFly plane, which was a noticeable drop in quality compared to the RB planes.

Even though they don't serve alcohol, doesn't mean you can't consume alcohol bought at duty free on board ;)

is it me or is thai airways website completely shit on chrome? searching flights just returns nothing - blank page with thai airways logo

    • I find many sites don’t work properly with aggressive adblock settings. Problems you wouldn’t quite expect like buttons don’t work etc.

This is a great price, such a shame I have to depart during the blackout window.

  • I often can get similar prices on Qatar with short layovers.

Just flew Thai into Copenhagen and back from Rome (from MEL). Great airline, great service, and the layover in Bangkok is only a few hours each way.

To book a similar split flight you have to use iwantthatflight multi city function and find the days that the Thai flight lands and departs from your chosen destination in Europe. Takes some trial and error but you should have figured out the schedule after 20 minutes.

Got our tickets for under $1200 so this is a reasonably good price.

  • Is it possible to stay few days in bangcock

    • I would like to know this too:-)

@nightelves: Yeah you got me, i honestly can not spell Bangkok.

i an planning on going to Grease, Hungry, Island and Chilly next year. I can't wait.

    • Yes you can, work out to be an extra $20 or so for me

  • Flew thai airways to Stockholm last year and had a good experience. Second leg Bangkok to Stockholm was red eye and empty, everyone was able to have a whole row to themselves in economy and sleep flat.

Damn no Spain.. any alternatives for that?

    • fly into Paris, then Ryanair to Spain. It cost 50 euro from Paris to Barcelona return.

      • Agree, but also I wouldn't look at just Paris (the closest) but all Thai Europe destinations, as low cost carriers have super cheap fares into Spain from all over.

The time I flew Thai I chose Frankfurt as there was a really cheap EasyJet flight into Valencia soon after I landed. The extra few hours travel wasn't too bad really.

I've flown Thai Airways and it was half decent. If Business Class is not fully booked you can upgrade on the day for $200 per flight (disclaimer this was 18 months ag). Worth it if flying a long leg particularly on return coming home ie Europe to Bangkok.

  • Had a look at some flights from Mel To Dme, june return 6 weeks later~,
Not cheap but whats worse is the flight times, from 32hr to 54hr, wow.

    • Where is Dme?

  • Ahhh I see, Moscow. Yeh unfortunately longish flights going over as well as coming back for Moscow. Still pretty cheap though, example below, both flights around 32hrs total.

    $1086.42 - BNE-DME 19th June, DME-BNE 31st July

    • Oh from Melbourne, yeh I see prices are a bit higher Melb to Moscow for some reason. There are some China Southern flights for around $1300 to Moscow Sheremetyevo if you hadn't seen.
