They make a great Home Theatre PC (Plex/kodi/etc box) or mini server to help backup & preserve videos, music, software from the internet.
They're nice & small ~ 12cm square & ~2.5cm thick.
They're nice and quiet (essentially silent), even when re-encoding videos.

Anyway I hope someone else find this useful.

Thanks @Bappy
The Beelink X55 is $348 and better specs

  • Such a shame the SSD is only SATA…

    • sata is plenty fast for that processor and bus architecture.

      • there's less options on the market for SATA in the M.2 2242 format from what I've seen and the pricing isn't great

        • Use a pair of scissors and cut to size :-)

        • AliExpress has heaps.

        • +1

not many options in M.2 2242 to being with

  • Can these handle H.264 transcoding of SD contents? (576i, mostly). Want to set up an inexpensive PVR.

Also, does the case get very hot/warm during use?

    • similar question.. Intel HD Graphics 605 —> able to transcode H.265?

  • The Beelink X55 or X45 could be a better option too as these models got M.2 Slot. The X55 is running Gemenilake J5005 CPU which should be better than X45's J4105.

    • ah cheers, the X55 is a better model.

  • If anyone wondering, how this goes.performance wise, I have a Gigabyte Brix with a j1900, I paid about the same but had to get my own ram and HDD.

I use it as an internet rape box, running Linux. I used to watch vids on it as well but now its headless.

It will play bluray flawlessly, 1080p 10bit HEVC played well as long as it wasn't doing too much else cause it was all decoded in CPU.

    J1900 VS J5005 in x55

    J1900 vs N5000
