20

The multi award winning Cullector combines several water saving features into one simple self powered unit. It's a great Australian invention made from chrome plated brass and designed to save water, power, money and the environment without sacrificing comfort.

  • Collect it. Collect up to 5 litres of the fresh water normally wasted during warm up time.
  • Use it. Use the collected fresh water to create a stronger fuller flow.
  • Time it. After 4 to 5 minutes all of the collected water has been used and a gentle pulse in the shower lets you know time is up.
  • Pause it. You can pause your shower at any time to soap up or shampoo without needing to adjust the taps.
  • Low flow. Experience a full flow shower and only use 6.6 litres of water per minute.
  • Easy DIY. It’s super easy to install, no drilling and no plumber required.

Installation

The Cullector™ is an easy no drill DIY retrofit. Everything you need comes in the box. The Cullector simply attaches to your existing shower outlet. No drilling and no plumber required.

Whilst this saves a tiny bit of water (which can be a moot point as water is fairly cheap), wouldn't it then use more energy - since if you're diluting hot water with the cold water that this has captured, you'll need to compensate with hotter water?

Plus, it's not very aesthetic having this ugly bottle hanging in your shower. Knowing my luck I'd knock it and snap it off.

Yes, looks like they attached a 2 litre plastic coke bottle to the tap, then it sprays out water.
Initially the water wasted is cold anyway, so Placard is right, energy required to get it up to temp is same.
But with this not so pretty device.. don't you end up with say 2 litres of warm water at the end of shower anyway, or does the bottle magically empty itself out at the end of each shower ?
Not sure I have this right but it sort of seems to neg itself out at the beginning and end of a shower ?
So not sure you save much (apart from the 6.6L/min Vs most 9l/m showers.)
Roughly around half a bucket of warm water = which would be about a quarter bucket of hot water per shower.
Even on Ebay with the 15% discount Pay only AU $67.15 delivered, I'd imagine return on investment would be around about 150 showers, but it still is an ugly looking thing.
Be much nicer of they Incorporated the tank into the chrome shaft where head slides up and down maybe.
    ( and yes i know…that just don't sound right !)

Hi, the bottle takes about 4 to 5 minutes to fully drain, so by the time you have finished your shower all of the collected water has been used up. The water that was collected in the bottle mixes back into the shower stream by venturi. Cheers

Cool, I couldn't get my head around what happens, like jd4free I though you just end up with warm water at the end. I'm on tank water - I'm more interested in the water saving than the energy saving, which like placard says is partly cancelled by needing hotter water.

Interesting product, I may get one to see how ugly it looks in real life.

  • Thanks for the comment. I agree the look of it can be a little bit of a challenge for some people! But I do love watching the water fill up in the bottle instead of going down the drain and then see it getting used. Cheers

Is the 6.6 l/min the actual flow rate out of the head or is it like an averaged value allowing for the water in the reservoir which would have normally been wasted?

Hi, great question! The 6.6l/pm is the actual amount of water being used from the supply line. When the water from the bottle mixes in it increases the flow rate by about 1.0l/pm so you actually get about 7.6l/pm from the shower head until all the water in the bottle is used up. After 4 to 5 minutes when the bottle becomes empty the flow rate drops back to 6.6l/pm and some air is drawn into the system which makes the shower stream pulse a little and is a good reminder time is up! Cheers

  • Thanks Peter - just bought one (via ebay)

    • Excellent! I'll have it shipped today. Cheers

  • If you don't care about aesthetics, just a 5litre bucket to collect the first flow probably does the job, unless I'm missing something!

Hi there, I agree, the bucket does a great job too. The only difference is the Cullector catches the water then uses it in the shower so yo don't have to lug the bucket around! Cheers

  • I just bought 2
I like everything about the concept including the 4-5 minute pulse to tell my bloody kids to get out!
    :)

  • Does the Cullector fit other hoses, arms and heads from other brands, or only the ones supplied with the kits?

    • +1

Hi and thanks for the question. The Cullector mechanism has a venturi and needs to have a showerhead and hose that doesn't create much back pressure. The supplied shower heads and hose is designed to work with the venturi and ensures the bottle drains in 4 to 5 minutes. Most other types of shower heads create too much back press and the bottle won't drain. I hope that answers your question and if I can be of any further help please let me know. Cheers
