About The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
The RPG of the Year (PC Gamer, GameSpy, IGN) is back in a Premium Edition packed with powerful extras! The Witcher: Enhanced Edition takes all of the acclaimed gameplay that garnered the original game more than 90 awards, and perfects it with a number of gameplay and technical improvements.

Superior dialogue and cutscenes - The developers have re-recorded and rewritten more than 5000 lines of dialogue in English and redone the entire German edition to create more a more consistent experience, while adding more than 200 gesture animations to make characters behave more believably in dialogue and cutscenes.

Enhanced inventory - The new inventory system makes item use and organization less complicated by introducing a separate sack for any alchemical ingredients, as well as a simple sort-and-stack function.

Technical improvements - The enhancements made to the technical side of the game are too numerous to list, but a few of the highlights include greatly reduced loading times, greater stability, improved combat responsiveness, faster inventory loading, the option to turn autosave on or off, and more.

Character differentiation system - To add more variety to NPC and monster appearances, we've added a new character differentiation system that randomizes the appearance and colors of dozens of in-game models.

Given it's been free multiple times before, I dare say anyone who was going to play The Witcher has already played it. If not, perhaps just wait for it to be free again?

  • Have never played any of the Witcher games… Should I?

Hmmm. The first Witcher game is very clunky by todays standards, it was clunky on release too. Still a good game, but it can be quite frustrating to play and the repetitive visuals can be a bit jarring.

It gave a very good story based experience, with some genuinely interesting quests when many RPGs were still giving fetch quests, however The Witcher games forced a lot of developers to put more effort into quests, so by now we are use to better quality side quests in games, but at the time, it was very refreshing.

Since it sold well they got a decent budget and Witcher 2 and 3 are still very good games to play now and definately worth playing.

      • Thanks for the insight. Would I lose out story-wise by starting at 2?

        • Nope. I played 3 then went and played 2. Witcher 3 is one of the best games I have ever played (and I've been at it for almost 40 years). I'm on my third way through ATM, wondering if this is any different? I have GOTY edition that has both expansions?

        • Start at two, read the Wikipedia page on one if you want to catch up. The first story is not heavily attached to the main arc, its just the characters personalities you'll miss out on. Geralt (The Witcher) has amnesia at the start of Witcher, so you'll learn about the world and his old friends with him, by the end of two, you'll know the main characters and the world anyway.

  • Witcher 1 is still worth buying.

    I played 2, then 1 then 3.

1's graphics are a bit shit early on, but seem to get better not too far in (my recollection a few years ago).

    That said, 100% get it.

Fantastic storyline throughout the excellent series (its still one of the best rpg type games).

    Cheers
