[PC,GOG] Mirror's Edge (DRM Free) $4.59 @ GOG

330

If you took advantage of the last deal on Mirror's Edge Catalyst, but have not played the first game of the franchise, this is a good opportunity to play the game that revolutionised first-person parkour, that was at that period of time overlooked by many gamers who were more into their first person shooters like CoD and Battlefield. Despite being a game that is 17 years old, it still still incredibly gorgeous, even in 8K resolution with no mods:

GOG's games are all DRM free which means it is not tied to any DRM platforms such as the EA App and you even get to keep the installers permanently in your collection in the event GOG dies.

Take note due to the removal of support for 32 bit PhysX for Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs, to prevent sudden drop in frame rates especially in scenes with lots of broken glass, you need to either:

  • disable PhysX in the game's settings
  • still leave a 32 bit capable Phys X GPU (generally anything RTX 40 series or earlier) in your computer and set that GPU to be the primary PhysX processor in the Nvidia control panel. You can still have all video output from your RTX 50 GPU.

While you can set the CPU to be the primary PhysX processor in the Nvidia control panel, it doesn't work well for games that were reliant on 32 bit GPU-processed PhysX.

So far, the first game is better btw. No forced combat, more pure gameplay instead of janky tutorials.

    • It does have it, and it was a point of complaint in the community. Thankfully it is minimal compared to the sequel though.

Press F for Nvidia 50 series owners.

      Double tap for Arkham trilogy

      • I think Arkham Knight is safe but Asylum, City, and Origins are not.

  • No F Key

  • Not suitable if you have the 50 series

    • Can’t you just disable physx?

  • Great game IMHO.

  • Surely if you have a nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, 5070 Ti, RTX 5070 you can afford to run a RTX 40xx card as well.
