I bought a Samsung 50" 3D yesterday @ JB. $1150 which included an extra set of the promo glasses, i.e. the one set you receive with the TV plus another set, and Monsters vs Aliens 3D Blu Ray thrown in.

      Samsung beats LG handsdown.

I owned both Samsung and LG plasma/LCD, and Samsung is much better.

Totally. Panasonic for plasmas any day.

Having great pana plasma myself, I still wouldn't call samsung a bad brand.

Myself as a Korean, I owned samsung 60" LCD tv and LG side by side door fridge . Except Korean cars, I like Korean brands. Electronic samsung better and white good LG better.

Panasonics are a no-brainer when wanting quality. As for Samsung and LG, although they are pretty poor, they are pretty much on par. Samsung has a platoon of advertising, nicer branding and nicer design/aesthetics, possibly why people think Samsung is superior.

    • My LG plasma seems just fine, what does it supposedly lack in?

      • -2

Compared to Panasonic, LG has poorer colours, sharpness, build quality and are not neoplasma/neopdp hence higher power consumption.

    • Are you serious? Of all the nationalities I know, Koreans have the most pride in their own products and will always buy Korean (whether for electricals, cars etc) when they can.

OTOH I'm Chinese and while I have some brand loyalty (Panasonic/Samsung), I can say that most Chinese people I know don't have much (if any) brand loyalty for any reason…

As a former TV salesman, I would never recommend LG TVs. It's a pity because their sales rep was a really nice bloke, it's just the product wasn't up to scratch (on their entry-level stuff (at least) their SD scaling was woeful, and throughout the lineup, their DOA return rate was pretty bad). Only time I sold LGs was when customers specifically asked for it.

Samsung LCDs I find to be good, and I would usually stick it up there on top of Sony.
Their plasmas are a different story - Panasonic hands down. The problem is I think is that (a) Panasonic knows this and (b) they don't have a large-screen LCD line to generate profits (they're dependant on their plasma line) so the Panasonics always attract a premium over the Samsungs.

The Samsung plasmas are good TVs, they have really nice designs and attractive pricing, but the Panas win in the areas where it counts most - build quality, reliability and picture quality.

As other posters have mentioned, you can get a better deal than the advertised price. The advertised price is simply a wish list. I like "The Good Guys" approach whereby their price whether advertised or not are "Less for Cash". In my opinion, "The Good Guys" offer consistently better deals.

    • I'm a big fan of buying @ Myer - they actually give quite good offers with no hassle, particularly if you show them a competing offer (obviously depends on the store but I always found Hurstville and Sydney CBD to be good in this regard).

      • Agreed. They are very easy to deal with - not with Binglee or GG where they have to punch into their calculator/computer for few times before can tell you that if you take out now with cash then they can only give with that asking price.

I only have to ringup Myer, tell them if they can beat that price and they agreed without any hassle with proof. Paid by CC and get some Myer's points.

        • I always thought of Myer as being a rather expensive, upmarket retailer.
I suppose they usually charge full RRP, but must compete when it comes to lower competitor's pricing(like virtually every other retailer in the country).
Never shopped there but I do like their glossy, premium catalogs.

  • Great TV. Bought one a month or so back for a little bit cheaper.

    Posted it here.

I might add - one of the USB ports broke at the back the first week of ownership. Called up to get someone to come out and replace it. Took them two weeks to come out. They rocked up, said "Yep - that's broken. Will have to order the part." What the hell? Still waiting for them to come back and replace it.

    • lol, the USB broke?!
what did you stick up your TV?

    • Stop sticking HDMI cables in your USB ports, they aren't compatible. I've learnt that the hard way.

  • does this come with glasses?

yep, sunglasses because the panel backlighting is super blindingly bright.

      • Apparently LG sunglasses supplied are of better than Samsung's because they're also anti-glare.
