Took me a while to find it, but its a Mastercard for those who are interested.

Good deal too. Especially when my St George amplify cost $79 a year and accrues at 0.5pts per $

40k points for 4k spending, doesnt looks a very good deal.

        @dragonindespair & @rdhupar

True OzBargainers charge everything they possibly can to one of their two cards and religiously repay it every pay day:

        1) the card requiring minimum spend, or if met
        2) the card with highest point earn

Minimum spend becomes a formality. In either case these cards usually have $0 annual fee (or whatever is reasonable for option 2).

For those that don't know sign up bonuses are what we're here for, you cancel the card straight after. The problem is you can only sign up with the same financial institution once per 12 months (or longer in some cases).

Eventually you run out of cards to do this with and need to wait out what's left of your time in the penalty box. Thus any time you're reminded of a card you can retry this with again it means another 40-100k points in the bank of millions for absolutely nothing more than you normally spend on crap anyway.

So thanks @epoch007, and wake up the rest of you noobs…

    • +2

It is if you're going to spend it anyway…

      • plenty of other options that keep coming up with much higher rewards for a lower spend usually.

        • +3

Find us a free alternative without any cost in the first year please.

        • +2

That's true.. but I spend like $3500 a month anyway. So really I just need this for two months and then I'll cancel it. So for me its a good interim card. Had the ANZ black so I can move on to another. Don't vote just because of the minimum spend. I mean its a free card with 40k bonus points

This one is 60K points and $0 annual fee, no $50 voucher though and there is a $50 fee if you choose the Qantas rewards. Depends how much you value the extra 20K points :)

Minimum spend is pretty standard for these offers.
If you put all your expenses on the Credit Card and pay them off by the due date it's pretty easy for some to rack up the minimum spend. Basically free points in that case…

Not for everyone obviously. But $0 fee and 40K bonus points is a good deal in my opinion.

      • +2

        Definetly easy to do.
You can always put a few $$$ on your electricity/water/council rates bills.
Or buy some gift cards for groceries/fuel.

        • +1

Or book a fully refundable flight.

        • +1

          @darthsparrow:

careful, some cards will reverse with refunds

  • +2

Applied, awaiting for decision. 40K is better than nothing.

    • +1

but I want a better deal than 'better than nothing'

      • You can apply Westpac credit card as per Devil Dog Eyes comment above. It's now more difficult to find credit card offers with first year $0 annual fee and bonus points.

  • +3

    Interest rates:

    Cash Advance Rate 21.99% p.a

    • Not bad for a $49 a year card.

  • what's the card minimum credit limit & minimum income required? can't see it in T&C's…

    • +1

Minimum card limit $4k which is what I applied for.
Not sure about income level, but I don't imagine it needs to be high on a $4k limit.

      • +2

        Found it. $35k min income

  • yawn any good deal with $0 annual fee?

  • Exchange rate on international spend is extremely good on this card. Was better than my citibank.

  • +1

Beware for those who have been actively applying for cards, even if you have an immaculate repayment history and financial status that is sterling, you will get rejected.

    • How?

      • There was another thread about this Qantas card which is apparently underwritten by Citi, and they are rejecting applicants who don't look like they'll get deep into debt. Others in those threads similar to me are getting rejected, high assets, little or not debt, strong income. So don't apply if you fit in this category unless you want the extra hit on your credit file. I was shocked to be rejected when I can get into a bank and get close to a million dollars in home loan pre-approval.

        • +1

Wow, you may be right. My app has been rejected.

    • That's not necessarily true. Mine was approved after they called my company payroll which is based overseas to confirm my income as well as calling me at work. They just go to a lot of effort to verify your application is correct.

  • Does this card charge fees on international transactions?
Also, do payments to the ATO qualify for part of the 40k bonus points spend?

    • Just saw this in their T&C's:

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semigovernment entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

So no to ATO payments - as with every card these days I suppose.. #Lame

    • Also found that International transactions will be charged an additional fee of 3% of the transaction value..

Sounds like this card isn't for me.

      • it's only good for the 40k bonus

      • check Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard for 0% international transaction, no signup bonus at the moment though

  • anyone got the points already ? waiting for the first statement, already spent $2000, waiting statement closure to spend again $2000, meanwhile using other cards with better points per $

  • First statement in, 20000 points on the statement and following day on my qantas account

  • I got my first statement before my card even arrived (a couple days after approval). Did I miss the first month?

    • +1

That's very weird. I would say the first month starts when you are approved. Worth calling them to confirm.

      • Yeah, finally got my card. Called up and they said the first statement gets issued blank because normally it has your annual fee but its $0 for this promo.

They said the 2 months count from when you are approved (so actually not 100% in sync with statement dates). They gave me my exact ones… from the 24th (statement date from 28th)
