  • Any opinions on this TV? Anyone have it?
Need one in a few months, 50" is a good size for me but wondering if the quality/image is okay.

    • +5

as far as generic UHD 50" TVs go, this will be fine - on par with what you'd expect from a no-brand LCD from big-w or JB hifi.

$386 inc delivery is a good price but often you can find "factory seconds" on gumtree for about the same price (TCL/Hisense/Changhong, each of which are brands i would prefer).

      • +10

I wouldn't put Hisense in the same category… I think they're a class above TCL and changhong. Probably not as good as LG & Samsung but I've been thoroughly impressed with my Hisense.

        • Hisense are the top tier "budget" screens, everything else is comparable to that Soniq trash.
Samsung & LG are the best screens overall.

        • I heard that Hisense uses LG screens anyway.

    • Its Android and not Android Tv so its really annoying
.. i forgot to install Netflix when i got it, now this android is too old for netlfix to install

  • 'Returns not accepted'
What if there is an issue with the product?

I think it refers, change of mind return

      RETURNS - CHANGE OF MIND
Please choose your product/s carefully, as Kogan do not provide refunds for products where you have simply changed your mind. This includes returns where you have selected a size of an item that doesn't fit you, or where you simply selected the wrong product.

    • +1

RETURN refers to change of mind if nothing is wrong with unit.
Australian Consumer Law does not deal with returns - that's an additional service offered by the merchant. So the merchant can impose conditions on (& withdraw) RETURNS.

If product fails to meet conditions under ACL (eg faulty, different to description), then that's a WARRANTY CLAIM, not a RETURN.

Hmmm when will a Kogan 75 incher drop below $1000 :D

  • +2

tempted, looking at a new cheap tv to support my new foxtel 4K box and play some xbox on.

  • Where is this listed on eBay? The link takes you to the eBay homepage, and the Kogan eBay site doesn't have it listed that I can see.

    • Link works fine for me

Anyway to get a refund on the difference if you didn’t use a discount code but bought last week at the same non-discount applied price?

  • +2

Wow 4k 50in below $400 just realised Im way outdated on tv prices

    • +7

You get what you pay for though.

      • +3

Exactly… In this instance you get a Kogan 50" 4K LED TV (Series 8 JU8000) for $386 Delivered.

        • Sent they rebranded Samsung’s

  • +4

Haha I'm sure this TV will be of excellent quality and longevity and represents excellent value for money!

Don't contribute to the throwaway economy.

    • +3

I've got a 10 or 11 year old Kogan TV that still works fine. My parents had a Samsung TV, which died after just a few years, with little use. When they bought a replacement (another Samsung), the store was not at all surprised that it had died after a few years.

Personally, I'd rather have a Samsung or other brand name TV, over Kogan, any day. But, just because its a cheap TV doesn't mean it will fail early.

      • +3

I feel that the Kogan of 10 or 11 years ago is very different to the Kogan of today.

It was also likely purchased at a different price point (I know they cost a lot more back then, but I'm sure it wasn't the 2007 equivalent of a $400 50" 4K!)

      • +1

I think its hit and miss no matter what you buy. I have a Soniq 50 inch plasma that Kevin Rudd bought me in 2007. Still going strong. The buttons on the side and remote bit the dust but it was nothing a $20 logitech remote couldnt solve. Still going so strong I don't know if I can justify paying less than half price 10 years later to buy a better new TV.

  • Hopefully it’s not gonna break within one year or two, thinking buying for grandparents.

    • +1

It probably will, and statutory warranty will not apply because you paid under $400 for a 50" 4K TV :)

      • Bagger.. might give it a miss then..

  • +2

I cannot buy a new TV because my Sony LCD from 10 years ago still works perfectly.

    • +3

first world problems right here :P

    • assuming price of 1 unit of sony lcd tv = 3 unit of kogan TV

1 sony LCD TV with 10 years old techy VS 3 unit of kogan TV with the usage of 3 years (hopefully) respectively with the latest techy every 3 years ?…

      what will you choose ?

Buy Vodaphone Tv box then, get Netflix for your tv

  • Dang. All these Kogan tv deals. Wish HN sold them so I can ask for price match and use my gift cards.

    • +2

use HDMI port #2 now it can play 4k 60hz :) pretty happy with the quality of image. i need to change my vote to +

      • You can't change your vote to a + but you can withdraw your vote by clicking on 'votes' above and clicking on - next to your vote.

      • I have revoked it for you, but it cannot be changed to a Plus.

I bought one. Contract and quality was terrible. I paid $25 for delivery and negotiated to pay $25 instead of $50 for return. All in all, I threw $50 in the bin. Buy quality or don't buy at all. You will just be disappointed.

Any opinions on the upcoming Kogan 58" Series 8 LU8010? Supposedly has an LG panel…

  • +1

For anyone that may be interested, based on the design of this TV, as far I can tell, it is a Chimei TV, but I have not been able to find the actual model. Chimei is the parent company of Innolux, who make the panel for this TV.

The manufacturer of Kogan TVs, will vary between models.
