Would be good if these were the Solar Crest handsets, lots of disasters around at the mo, would be handy.
unfortunately these arent, was kinda hoping they were.
What does it take to unlock this phone?
I need a cheap handset that is unlocked.
If you choose to have Network Locking removed within six months of activation or upgrading, there will be an $80 fee charged. Alternatively, if you have recharged up to the value of $80 or have been connected for longer than six months, no fee will be charged.

It's unlocked already!
Optus do not sell locked their Optus Prepaid E1170's at all.
I am using a Telstra SIM in mine, for instance. No unlocking required!
if this is true, then this offer is a hit!
Nah, the phone itself is crap. I have one.
Coles Express petrol stations has a better Vodafone flip-phone for $14.50. Also unlocked.
Which one is that? Do you have the model number?

$14.50. Vodafone Samsung Red Flip E1150 handset.
Ends 2 Mar 2011 or while stocks last. Handset locked to Vodafone network, unlocking fee applies.
Is the vodafone flip- phone definitely unlocked? cos i want to buy to send overseas.
The interface on this model is slowwwwww…
However it's still usable.
Spoke to a Coles person who made a few phonecalls on my behalf, this phone is completely sold out in all Coles across Victoria.
They say no rainchecks, but I got one as I had a bit of a go at it not being good enough.

As if she cares.
Can any one help me I'm looking to buy a cheap mobile to send to ChCh as the receivers have no power and don't expect to for a few weeks, so I thought I'd send a charged phone over so they get something they can use. I'll send it to a local post office so that they can then pick it up. WOuld this phone work in ChCh. Anyone know?
You probably can find some outright Moto phones at Harvey Norman for around $30ish. Else check Dicksmith, they should have old Nokia like this
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6910/nokia-2323-mobile-phon…
They are sold outright - ie unlocked - so should work with any GSM network. You can get car charger (provide the car still running of course) to charge the phone. Else get one of those Emergency phone charger that use AA batteries (or solar) to charge your phone.
Something like this http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ST3352
We got a 1081T at Harvey Norman for $15 today instead - which phone is better?
I compared at http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3332&idPhone2=…
The 1081T looks better except where it really counts - battery life…
Also the 1081T is definitely locked - I tried my Telstra SIM on it….
I bought one (Samsung E1170) for $15 today at Coles. Not a bad phone to tide me over for a while. It's pretty simple but everything it does do it seems to do right.
Just to confirm, my Virgin mobile sim works on this phone so it definitely is unlocked. Great deal for $15.
Next they be putting these things in Happy meals!
Virgin is using Optus network so it should work with any Optus phone. Try another network like voda, telstra, 3.
I use a Telstra SIM in my $15 Coles E1170.
And it works great!
This Coles E1170 phone is unlocked.
Doesn't get much more basic than this. The only thing that would annoy me is that I would never be getting the full value of the prepay recharge (which includes data)
