    4k Screen with a 1060 gaming machine… yikes !

    • +5

      You don't game at 4K silly, you game at 1920 x 1080 and use 4K for media or for lots of text you can't read.

      • Would 1080p interpolated to a 4k screen look ok?

        • Yes, I play games at 1080p or watch movies on my 4K laptop screen I enjoy the experience. While it looks good if you are playing or watching movies, if you make comparisons and focus on it, you can notice it. Just relax and enjoy it is what you are doing.

          When you do activities such as photo editing or 3D modelling, the extra pixels in 4K become very helpful.

    those specs make for a beast laptop

    • looks surprisingly thin too for a gaming laptop of those specs.

      • It will just melt the insides, or throttle so hard under heat that it's more of an i3 with a 1050gtx. More likely the second.

        • +2

          why not both

        • Not exactly, the laptop model is already running under clocked and under volted compared to the deskop version so it runs cooler, but of course, slower. The CPU is already a lower power consuming version compared to the desktop.

        • @FabMan:
          It will still throttle when it gets hot. Which it will. Possibly make it uncomfortable to use the keyboard.

        • @RI4V4N: Yeah, you are right.

          I find if you reduce graphical fidelity, set a FPS limit, and if you have one, use a cooler pad. The laptop will usually nice and cool. Intel Extreme Tuning Utility can help as well.

  • OMG

  • Geez, seems to good to be true :D
    Tempting, very tempting if I didn't recently purchase an Aorus Gaming Laptop

    its 3.13kg for those who are wondering

    • This fact alone makes me so happy.. Telling myself I did not get this because it is twice the weight of my last laptop.

      Not gonna rationalize that my old laptop was a GT740M I something I think i5-3550u or y basically very bad. Only 15 inches.

      Makes me sad that the cost of the laptop was like near the cost of a 1080ti second hand now or what I can haggle but not complaining it was a birthday present so am very happy and appreciative to the purchasers.

      To think two of those made up one of these is pretty hard now to imagine.

      Technology you move so fast.

    Processor Max. Clock Speed (GHz) - 43.8, nice… must have insane cooling to push it to 43ghz

    Doubt they'll have a lot but for the price, I'd be tempted.

    • It will hit it for like 30seconds before it starts throttling hard due to heat.

    Is Acer still considered a below average brand or have they improved?

    • +1

      Acer Predator Helios 300 is one of the most popular GTX 1060 laptop. In fact, I would rather see a deal on one, for a much lower budget.

    • In my opinion, Acer are up with the likes of HP these days. Definitely upped their game.

      • …HP do some shonky sht. Been burnt several times.. in fact, most times.

        • Who do you reckon is the brand to beat at the moment?

        • +2

          @pennypincher98: My 2007 ACER laptop failed in 2016, I got a used mobile GPU to replace the one in it and it fired up again, good as new. So I don't mind ACER.

          My newer ASUS laptop is awesome, so I vote for them.

        • @pennypincher98: Microsoft surface, no contest.

        • @Jolakot: lol I hope you are just kidding - Surface is nowhere near the brand to beat.

          They make an expensive tablet. I was asking about laptops.

          I agree Asus is also good (Lenovo gets a thumbs down from me though)

        • @pennypincher98: I meant the surface range, i.e. surface laptop and surface book. Expensive but I've never seen a single issue with the build quality.

    17" UHD screen at point blank viewing angles… yeah nah

    • too big or too small?

      • -6

        Its far too big. There is absolutely no need for that level of PPI for point blank angle of vision. Its retina is at 33cm ffs:

        https://www.designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-reti…

        • what about ppi on your phone ?

        • -8

          @phunkydude:

          Who cares about phones, they're an even smaller, more pathetic screen

        • +2

          The closer you are to the screen, the larger the PPI is needed.

          Higher PPI on a distant screen is a waste of pixels because you won't notice as many.

          4K makes a lot more sense on a 17" laptop than it does a 65" TV viewed from far away.

          It's the reason why phones have the highest PPI, far higher than TVs or desktop monitors which are viewed from further away.

        • -4

          @lostn:

          I know what angle of vision is mate, these 'far away' distances you're taking about are 30cm. Thats retarded

        • +1

          @philmarcracken:

          Laptops are viewed relatively close to screen compared to desktop monitors and obviously TVs.

          So they need a higher PPI than a monitor and much higher than a TV. But not as much as a smartphone which is held even closer.

          Please stop making an ass of yourself further.

        • -3

          @lostn:

          Ok, keep buying into the useless UHD '4k' meme if you seriously want to burn your cash.

        • +2

          @philmarcracken: Did you run out of downvotes for the day?

    • +1

      Yeah, get a laptop with 1366 x 768 for the ultimate viewing pleasure!

  • +12

    Will this be able to do word processing and emails?

    • ….or Minesweeper?

    • Yeah but will need to upgrade it for Facebook
