  • Can someone tell me why I should get this to replace the standard Optus NBN SAGEMCOM router?

    • Pretty much beats the shit out of Sagecom in all aspects(Speed,Range, consistency)

      • Does it? I can't see spec anywhere …

      • So could my random dropouts be due to the Sagemcom and not Optus?

        • It’s easy to blame the ISP and sometimes it is their fault. But like every other device, routers aren’t foolproof.

I have to reboot my TP-Link every once in awhile.

    • The advantages of this unit would be a faster wireless connection (dependant on your wifi card/adaptor) should provide a better range and signal strength compared to the sagemcom one of the portal's main advantages is it constantly monitors

The potential disadvantages is you would loose the VoIP functionality so if you use your phone over NBN you will need to get a different adaptor or a IP phone And if optus provides support they may ask for the sagemcom to be plugged in for testing.

      • Cool thanks, I don't use VoIP.

    • fttp ? yes

      fttn ? no

      • That's one thing i should clarify if you have FTTN/FTTC or HFC connection you will need a separate modem this will most likely have been provided to you, the sagemcom F@ST doesn't appear to have the built in modem so i didn't mention it earlier.

        • As above

Only FTTN requires you to supply a modem.

Fttp connection built in to the ntd on your wall. Just plug the router in.

HFC NBN supplies a dedicated cable modem.

FTTC NBN modem supplied (and required to be used).

  • +1

The review on it looks very mediocre however. http://au.ign.com/articles/2017/11/08/portal-wi-fi-router-re…

    • Its not the fastest of the bunch but they are comparing it to $200-$300+ units there

your not likely to find similar performance at this price.

  • Cheaper, although at a higher base price, on your ebay store if having it shipped.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Razer-Portal-Smart-Gaming-Dual-b…

    • Good find.

$20 Shipping for me means ebay is a better deal as you can use a coupon (I'd imagine).

      so its realistically $149 shipped.

Same on ebay but use a coupon.

  • They are going to release a firmware update on April 1st 2019 that enables raytracing for your games

  • A Razer router? So it'll look pretty and work (poorly) for about five minutes, then shit itself?

  • • Bluetooth® 4.1 Low-Energy: Supporting smartphones, tablets and IoT devices

What does a Bluetooth enabled router do different?

    • The Bluetooth appears to be mainly for connecting mobile phones for setup and administration
