It is very good. It has a higher fat content then a lot of other meats. You can serve it as you would a steak with some simple sides.
Basically to cook it, you put it over high heat, skin side down and try and do most of the cooking like that. Flip it and finish it in the oven to your liking (can be made to medium rate)
IMO I would say cook it skin side down on low heat to render out the fat to crisp the skin. If you go high heat skin will burn
I was taught to slice into the skin (not through to the meat) at 1 inch intervals, then fry skin down on high heat. That helps the fat render out before finishing in the oven. Easiest way to get the skin crispy and the meat juicy
@neophyte2: This method also assists with preventing the meat from bowing as it heats up.
I would recommend that you buy and try some pre-made BBQ duck from one of those chinese butchers or peking duck from a chinese restaurant to see if you like it first :)
AMAZING !!
I love these fillets. You basically eat it like steak.
They're high in fat so when you cook them make sure you're using only a tiny bit of oil.
Preheat pan until oil is smoking
Place skin side down in pan, sprinkle a tiny bit of salt, wait 2 minutes
Flip, sprinkle a tiny bit of salt, wait 3 minutes
You can serve it with some starch so rice, any kind of potato, steamed, baked, fried, chips, wedges etc.
And a side of vege, could be asparagus, broccoli, broccolini, carrots, steamed, baked or panfried
The iconic duo is some kind of roasted/fried potato/chips/wedges and high-heat pan-fried green.
You could also do a pasta I guess.
Thanks everyone, looks like I'll be giving it a go.
This is my favourite way to do it
Marinate 2 Duck Breasts for ~1hr with:
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce,
- 1 Tbsp Honey,
- 1 Tsp Sesame Oil,
- Quick shake of Chinese 5-spice
Cook Duck (Skin side down) on low heat in a frypan for ~5mins until skin is crispy, then pop in the oven (180 Deg) for ~20mins.
Slice and serve with Fried Rice!
Of course like with all meat rest it for 5-10mins before cutting

Always been tempted to buy the whole duck when its on special, 8 or so meals for $10 whole duck
It's easier and a convenient way to cook duck. All I do is put a bit of hoi sin sauce on it and fry it on the pan.
Air fryer is the best for the duck leg. Never tried the duck breast but will definitely pick some up
How long? never tried it for duck before,
15mins is good enough. Longer if you want more colour
Which woollies? Been to number around caufield, bentleigh area and none have stock. Product isn't listed online either.
A bit odd. Dropped by Newmarket. Sale 1/2 price label was there. Took it to counter but didn't scan at half price. After asking, they said it wasn't the right one (I picked up luv a duck breast fillet packet about 300-400g).so I returned it…
show them the online site
I've done that in the past.
I never rely on woolies to get it right. Always missing popular items that are on sale or available but not priced right
Anyone even find these, been to 4 different woolies as I was in the area… none … not sold out just not for sale
I have never had duck before. Does anyone care to share their opinion on it? What do you serve it with?
