P/S: I have no experience with Air China, accidentally stumbled upon this promotion. Assuming if "tax included", i.e. Airport Taxes and hopefully including all fees, thus Net Price, that's a pretty decent price. Airport Taxes and Fees could cost as much as $175/pp (depending on which airports)

The schedule table on Air China website clearly states (tax included). But Note 4 mentions (exclude tax and other surcharges). Not sure. As far as I know Airline tickets are GST free.

don't forget to sort out the Chinese Visa, should you need one.

  • i am wondering if you go for less-than-7days, would you qualify for the "free transit Visa" in Beijing,
because of the entry/exit international flight ticket.

    anyone know how that works?

    thanks.

    • +4

the country you arrive from and depart to, needs to be different for it to qualify as a transit.

      • +3

        Just to clarify…

        Sydney -> Shanghai -> Sydney

Wont work, as there is no other 'onwards' connection to a different country.

Sydney -> Shanghai -> Hong Kong -> Shanghai -> Sydney

Should work, as you are flying onwards to a third country.

ie, you'll need to pay for a return flight to another country to avoid paying for a VISA.
In general, a land crossing won't count.

        • Transit VISA has a limited area you can visit
        • You have to show an onward flight (or cruise) ticket
        • +1

You can buy refundable onward ticket and cancel it

    • @whyisave "free transit Visa in Beijing"

144 Hours (6 Days) Visa Free Transit Area of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei

      A —-> B —-> C

      A: Australia (Syd/Melb)
B: Beijing (since your question was specific to Beijing) Beijing Capital International Airport
C: Must be a country other than Australia (example: Japan, Russia, South Korea, Singapore etc…) or Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan (these are considered Chinese special regions)

It's very important there is no stopover/transit/layover in any other Chinese airports/cities in Mainland China between A —-> B and B —-> C

Like what others has stated, you need an onward destination (C) to qualify for the 144 Hours Visa Free Transit Beijing

just came back from China with air china…
I don't recommend it base on the services received. old entertainment system can't select movies it just keeps on playing movies on a 12 flight is killing.
it feels like it in 1990.
    the meal is bad. delays.

btw Vietnam airline was really good.

I've only flown them domestically within China, and it was pretty bad.

      • The aircraft was quite old and not cosmetically maintained to what you'd expect.
      • Seats are barebones in terms of comfort and entertainment.
      • Flights are generally filled with uncontrolled rowdy and rude passengers.
      • In one instance, the guy next to me was so drunk, he couldn't walk down the aisle, and ended up pissing himself for our hourlong flight from PVG-PEK. Attendants didn't care and just handed me some napkins when I raised the issue.
      • Service was missing (they'd just disappear for hours).
      • Not all attendants spoke English (or were interested in getting someone who could speak to assist).
      • My checked bags were opened and tiny (Go Pro and Xiaomi Yi) batteries confiscated.

I only fly Air China when I need to, or there is a significant price difference.
Honestly, for an extra $100 or so for Singapore Airlines or Qantas return to China, I'd pick one of these carriers!

Lol u were flying domestically from pek-pvg. And u expected them to speak English to you? It's like expecting Qantas to speak Chinese to you on a syd-melb flight. Why would they even consider…

Also it's a rule in China battery packs must be in carry on, not checked. don't blame you for not knowing though.

        • I went to Haikou and Sanya, they have security scanners at check-in counters. Was asked to wait a few seconds while they scan, and will be given the green light or they will tell you to take out your batteries on the spot.

    Ouch, I am Single.

  • What's the process for getting a Visa?

  • +1

I would be cautious with Air China:

Air China will only compensate ~$40 per person for you to find accom if your flight is cancelled.
Flights in Beijing are regularly delayed (4hours) due to weather conditions. Air China have terrible communication when this happens. Staff know nothing at the terminal. They also have limited english ability and don't announce in english over the P.A.

    Some quick tips:

    • Get a Visa. I was in chengdu for a 17 hour stopover and customs wouldn't let me leave the airport.
    • They are more likely to lose your luggage. Just take photos of whats in there before you checkin, get travel insurance and don't put anything too expensive in there.
    • take heed of what everyone is saying

Imagine if people came to Australia and complained that we didn't speak their language.lol

    • Yes exactly what I was thinking lol. We can't please everybody I guess.

Can you add a "Travel" tag so this deal shows up it that category?

    • @rowd22 done. thanks.

Airchina is one of the most crappy service airline, from experience of myself and others. Avoid it.

  • Void from Airchina
Very horrible service. I ordered three tickets from them, were canceled by only one line sentence "We can not provide this service any more"
I had to order from other company. Ask them for compensation, they just do not care their customers.
Strongly recommend Do Not Use Air China.
