Really curious on what Huawei uses that 16GB on, probably reporting back to the Chinese Communist Party.

That's a good amount of phone for $300. If it had NFC, It'd be so-long-Mi-8-bargain-notifications.

it’s a clearance, or surprised as it’s on android 7 not android 8 with android P yesterday to come and no nfc in australia is a bit of a downside for some users.

you need to look at what it competes against eg nokia 6 at $330, nfc, android 8, and beta of android 9 already and android one for patches.

      • I believe only the Nokia 7 Plus is eligible for the Android P beta program.

    • No NFC

  • Really curious on what Huawei uses that 16GB on

I'm guessing you are correct. Stock Android is about 7-8gb and EMUI can't be bloated with 8gb of shite surely.

    • Maybe thats why its been subsidised lol

might be using the extra space reserved for a copy of the old OS incase it goes wrong in an update and to ensure there is always space for updating to new OS …windows 10 is the same, keeps a complete copy of old OS incase it needs to roll back, ios used to have problems with updates as it did a large one and if not enough space would fail, so you had to free up space before an upgrade, now it’s more modular.

    • If you ever installed a vanilla ROM, stock android is about 300mb. Even the biggest Samsung ROMs I've seen are only about 2-3gb

    • It's for Chinese government spyware.

  • Still not as good as the LG G4 from 3 years ago.

Don't think people will miss the bootloop.

    • LG still make phones?

      • They also make the g6, which it turns out has its own special 'moisture in the USB port' fault which randomly has mine vibrating and flashing notifications every 2 seconds

  • People think they're so important that someone will spy on them. Maybe, if you spend $1k+ on a phone, but a few hundreds? Not worth it, what do they gain from? Red on your credit cards?
Remember who bugged world leader' phones, including allies ie Australia, Germany etc?

      …uhm.ok?

Same old "it's not because you have nothing to hide that you should let people to spy on you" argument, no matter if you are a plebs or a celebs. I like to keep my Pron history secret

    • Are you the Chinese government?

      • Theyd be interested in me, i know who our politicians have been shafting,
Though the people they have been shafting might be less interesting.

I was partially joking, but wow, aren't you offended.

It's not individuals they're looking at, but at the masses, because people on their phones aren't as unique as you think. This can also be said of Google’s data collection.

Some Chinese users suspect the reason why Huawei locked the bootloader is probably to collect user connection and usage information, so when a user is connected to a VPN, the phone can report back the VPN's IP address and the Government can get it banned.

Although this is not really relevant to us outside of China.

Had this phone for a few months. It's OK. Not perfect. The obvious, no nfc. Camera is a little less than average in low light but great in well lit environments.

For the love of some cheap nasty phones, I’m sure no one minds losing personal information to the Commies.

After all, Australia is on the road to becoming a Chinese dependency, just ask Dastyari and his cronies.

is NFC the 'new' band 28 when it comes to reviewing a phone? It is a nice to have but it definitely isn't as crucial as band 28 which can actually affect the use of the phone (especially for rural areas).

    • How about Dual SIM option and NO-SD-CARD? Some people only find things to complain about.

    • +1

NFC is fantastically convenient once you start using it. Certainly when you're using it for Apple/Google Pay, but even using it to pair a bluetooth device. Going into menus feels hopelessly primitive compared to just tapping.

It's not something you want to lose when you upgrade your phone.
