[Refurbished] Nintendo Wii U Premium Console $118.40, Basic Console $102.40 C&C or $6.95 Delivery @ EB Games eBay

1830
PRELOVED20

This is a great console for playing the pre-Switch library of Nintendo Games as it is pretty easy to softmod and has HDMI output for ease of use compared to the Wii. Looks to be a historical low for the preowned version from EB and comes with a 12 Month Guarantee.

Premium version [32gb internal memory]
Basic version [8G internal memory] SOLD OUT

Original 20% off PRELOVED code post

I would recommend Click and Collect if you can - The first one they gave me looked pretty rough, but they had three others in stock so let me pick another one that is in near-mint condition.

  • Can you use the Wii remotes?

  • Quite sure if not all most of the Wii U games will be ported to Switch.

    • +3

Saw Mario maker in Big W for $30 the other day. Even if it's ported to the switch it won't quite be the same experience… Plus it'll be twice the price at least.

    • All the ones that matter. Still worth owning a WiiU for the rest, of you’re a Nintendo freak.

      • +1

Don't think Tokyo mirage sessions will be ported. Even if more games get ported why would you even buy them on the switch if you can get them so much cheaper on the wii u.

        • But you don't get new releases on Wii u. Switch is good if hacking it is your thing

    • +2

Cheap way to get into Zelda.

      • Yeah basically $170 to get you into Zelda Breath of The Wild then you can resell it for around $100 on Gumtree.

        • Where did you get to $170 number?

        • +2

          @dragonindespair: $102 basic Wii u + $68 preowned Zelda BOTW

        • -1

          @wtfnodeal
          Or
$102 basic wii u +$5 botw from target

          Pity none left:D

        • -1

@wozz: Or $100 basic Wii U from K-Mart with Mario Kart + $5 BOTW from Target

          Pity none left

          googleit.com

      • +5

You can actually play every zelda game on the wii u. The online store makes that possible. I bought them all.

        • +6

Can you play the CDi ones?

          Princeeeeeesss

        • All? Including the ds ones?
2ds xl also available for $120

        • +1

          @Bimo:
Acatually let me rephrase. All console zeldas. DS, gameboy advance as well.
However not the 3ds remakes, link between worlds and hyrule tri force heroes. Youll need a 3ds/2ds for that

        • @minatosensei: I see. Thanks mate

        • +1

          Mah boy!

    • +6

I got it a few years ago when it was about 6 months old. it's actually really nice console and the pro controllers are great.

Mario Kart is fun, basically the same as the Switch version. BOTW is a bit glitchy for high def scenes, but otherwise very solid in my opinion. But if you want the portability of the Switch then get that instead.

      • +1

I bought a MayFlash adapter for the Switch solely to use my Wii U Pro Controller on the Switch, one of my all time favorite controllers.

      • +2

BOTW is a bit glitchy for high def scenes

The entire game (all scenes) are 720p.
The game is not glitchy at all.

I'm guessing you're trying to explain that the game doesn't manage to lock 30fps. If so, this is true, especially in towns where it can drop to 20fps at times.

        • Neither does the switch though. So whatevers.

      • I played through it and never really encountered any glitches

    • +3

They aren't. At least not a refurbished one from a store that gives you a warranty.

      • +2

        Refurb is a bit misleading

        • +19

"It's taken to head office for thorough testing and cleaning".

          What refurbished really means:

We take it at the back and make sure it turns on. We don't wipe it down.

        • -5

          @cheepo: Exactly.

High feedback eBay sellers do a better job of "refurbing" it than EB albeit you get no warranty - but it's insane to pay 100% more to "insure" (ACL warranty coverage) a $50 item for 2 years or whatever ACL gives you.

          How is a $50 warranty for a $50 item a bargain exactly?

        • +11

          @Diji1:
Where can you buy a Wii U for $50?

        • @Diji1: link to more than 10 $50 Wii U please.

  • +8

I think it's an underrated console. Sure, the Switch had superseded it and most of the good games have been ported over but I still really enjoy mine.

    • Yeah in fact when I unboxed it and hooked it up to my tv 3 years ago was quite impressed with it especially had Mario Kart 8 on HD which was fun. But the delay in releasing Zelda BOTW by 2 years really pissed me off.

      • Same. I held out and bought the Mario kart version and spare controllers expecting Zelda to be out in six months they then kept pushing it back… Plus battle mode sucked.. so had virtualy no use of those controllers.

  • +3

its alot of fun once modded and its easy to do

    • +1

      What does modding it do?

      • +10

allows you to download e-shop games as if you had the funds of Gina Rinehart + play pretty much all older Nintendo console games

        • Thanks.

        • +3

@johnthepg: To be more specific, these are the highlights:

          1. Lets you play gamecube game backups natively (not emulated).
          2. Lets you use a lot of different old console controllers in any games.
          3. Lets you play all the wii emulators, homebrew and game backups.
          4. Lets you play your own wii u disc backups off a hard drive.
          5. Lets you dump your games and saves, to legally import into the Wii U emulator, to run your games at 4k, 60fps.
5.1 You can also dump some saves eg. BOTW for import onto the Nintendo Switch, should you buy one in the future.
          6. Lets you play modded games
          7. Enables piracy.
        • how do you do hack on eshop games? do you download it directly from eshop?

        • @ulun-lpg: doh, of course nnot hacking nintendo store, they are like big company, come on.
most likely, you have to download the game, then put in external hdd, then play them. so, digital file game instead of cds

        • +1

          @dragonindespair:

It's not a stupid question. On the 3ds the eshop has been hacked and you can access a free shop. The Wii U however requires of downloads.

        • @Ronniefromdashore:
Depends on your definition of hacked I guess.

        • @dragonindespair: yeah from reading the comment by glengood, I thought it allows the console directly download from the eshop.

I have figured it out by running a phyton app in windows that download the games.

          Cheers

        • @ulun-lpg: look up Bsod Gaming on YouTube. He has a great video tutorial.

        • @idonotknowwhy:

Thanks for responding mate. Didnt realise it could do all these things.

          I've just bought a Wii U.

I assume this is the best place to go to get it modded? https://wiiu.hacks.guide/

        • @johnthepg:

Check out GBAtemp. Excellent independent gaming resorece site for all you gaming and modding information. Especially the forums that contain a lot of great tutorials and information. Well worth signing up for free. If you ever need help there is always someone there that will help.

        • @johnthepg: Yep, that's what I used. I've done 4 wii u's with that guide.

        • @idonotknowwhy:

I used the guide and I believe I got it working :)

I was wondering now where I actually go to get games?

I'm spefically looking for Wii U games like Zelda, Mario Kart and DK.

          TIA

        • @johnthepg: eb games preowned are pretty good ;)

      • +1

Allows you to use a USB helper, use xbox, ps3 etc controllers with it, run translation mods or mods for Smash etc, run emulators.

        There's a lot.

        • usb helper is amazing. i use it for Cemu. find it on reddit

        • @DarthAntz: USB helper is sort of dead. Replacements abound.

        • [@flashi007](/comment/6225604
Nah, still works well with a couple of extras steps needed to install it.

        • @Roger Ramjet: you’re right and that’s the problem with my short comment. It’s technically not supported by the developer anymore however there are work arounds to make it work.

        • @flashi007:
yeah there are a few replacements. on reddit theres the fix

      • Pretty much everything. From "backup" games (i.e. all Wii U, Wii, Gamecube, Nintendo 64 games), plus other fun stuff like MAME emulator to run old arcade games and consoles etc

      • +1

You can play every single nintendo console games except the Switch, 3DS, and maybe virtual boy?

    • +2

You can download and play the full library of Gamecube, Wii and Wii U. That's three generations of Nintendo.
Also emulation for snes, nes, etc and beyond. So that's a whole bunch more generations.

It's a great Nintendo machine for $100 if you're willing to mod it.

      • +1

        How do you mod it?

        • +1

YouTube it, it was a bit of a pain in the ass for me, the YouTube video wasn't 100% which caused hours of headache. I figured it out in the end, something to do with hakchi when it boots up to hold the b button or something. Can't remember it was when the Hak first came out

        • +5
    • +4

Is there a WiiU softmodding guide for noobs?

    • +1

Can you share a link on how to mod it?

  • What's the difference between premium and basic console?

    • Storage capacity, colour and gamepad stand iirc.

      • Don't think you get the stand with refurb. You just get the sensor bar, mine however came with Mario kart 8.

    • 32gb vs 8gb hd and some accessories like Wii mote sensor bar etc

      • Can storage be expanded?

        • External desktop or portable hd

        • Connect a powered USB 2TB HD in the back and install games to it instead of the internal storage.

Any good prices on refurbished Windows Vista PCs?

  • +2

Bought one despite already having a white version

    • Why need 2 Wii U?

      • +5

because i'm a hoarder and this one will go in the lounge room or gfs house.

        • Yea baby!! I know the feeling, I’m attempting to get two of every modern day console pretty much because.

        • The sucky thing about the WiiU is that the hard drive is encrypted to the specific console. i.e. If your console dies, you're stuck having to load everything from scratch. And as far as I can tell it's the same if the hard drive dies too because there's no easy way I found to make a backup.

  • +1

Hmmmm. Buy this and load nintendont to play ocarina/Majora and windwaker or keep my Wii and wait for switch to sort out a proper catalogue of ports??

    • Could be waiting a long time. I'd save your money and just play them on Wii / 3ds / PC though rather than collecting more plastic junk.

    • if you got a decent pc, you can play wii u and wii emulator + their games on it.

      Ports probably will occur
      but when is the question.

      do you own a switch?

  • +5

Wii U and also the Sega Dreamcast were both totally underrated, amazed how well the Switch does given most of its best games are only slight improvements over the Wii U versions.

    • +1

Yup. If the Wii U wasn't retarded and you could take the Gamepad all throughout the house (with some sort of extender or something), it would have been crazy awesome. Also, looking like a $40 piece of shit from K-Mart didn't help it.

Wii U & DC - two of the greatest of all time.

      • +1

Branding was the issue with the wii U

  • Try to resist people. I know you all have Switch’s already.

The $100 could go to more games, not more dust .

    • +3

$100 for every single Nintendo game ever released exclusing the Switch?

Sounds like one hell of a deal to me.

  • +1

Pretty good considering how few there are out in the wild, hopefully they stay around this price for years to come, great little console with a great little library believe it or not, but we all know modding is where it's at. All I have on it is Nintendont and I've spent more time on that than I have all my Wii U games combined.

If the Vita had have become more like the Wii U tablet (yes I know about Remote Play, does it work well for you? Because it did for me back when the PS4 launched and as the years went by, and my internet got better, somehow the Vita became more and more unreliable and it's not even usable for Remote Play anymore) maybe I'd still use my PS4 and Vita, instead of Switching over to Xbox and Switch primarily.

    • I remember this being around 180 last year or so. It's gonna continue to drop.

    • Plenty of used console selling on Gumtree and eBay.

  • Soft-mod this baby and go nuts ;)

  • +3

Bought an old Wii years ago from EB Nd modded it. Great fun.
Gonna replace it with this and mod it, too.
Looking forward to it! Thanks OP!
