for these usb adapters for magnetic charging, they look similar to ones that appear on ebay , aliexpress and some other sites.
Exactly, actually bought a couple of cables from one of the many brands on AliExpress. Paid about $8 AUD at full price for the cable, and three different connectors. Great quality. The only advantage buying Volta is the warranty I suppose?
Which brand? Even that cheap I'm hesitant to install an adapter that totally takes over the port if it's less than perfect and you have to carry an adapter outside of your usual charge points.
For those who care, Reddit/amazon reviewers list some issues with these things:
Wsken adapters are smallest, most fragile, prone to break, finicky
Kript adapters are small, cheap but reports of weak magnets and slow charging/data transfer, ill fitting adapters.
Volta adapters are bulkier and they use stronger magnets but that means they collect more tiny metal shards, need frequent cleaning.

Yes, you are right about frequent cleaning. we also realised that not everyone can keep up with making their charger debris-free and we are working hard to make sure that in the future, our customers won't have to worry about cleaning off metallic debris from the strong magnets.

Now I just wish phone makers would hurry up and agree on a built-in counter-sunk standard for "mag snap". At this point they are stopping us from living in a perfect world.
I think the direction the market is going is wireless charging.
