if cancel during free trial , you don't get your yubikey

well, i didn't receive 1 for last deal

    • +3

      I did.

    • +1

I also recieved one, although I cancelled after 2 months. The key did take several weeks to arrive.

    • +1

I didn't cancel until after they'd sent my replacement Yubikey because the first was a dud. Was still within the free period.

      • It looks like this won't be the case this time.

  • +2

My first key was DoA did take 2 months to arrive. But support was direct with Yubico and they shipped out a new one that week.

  • Seems to add $30USD international shipping? Am I missing something?

    • +1

      Make it digital subscription only.

      • +2

You cannot buy a one year subscription for $10USD to AU, if you click digital only it changes the price to $19.99USD for the year. OP should be updated to reflect this.

    • +1

You will not be billed for shipping until the free trial is over. But you can choose digital only as well.

  • Took up subscription offer thanks op. Says will ship YubiKey 6 to 8 weeks after payment processed, does this mean after 3 months trial and take up 12 months subscription? Bit confusing to me. Anybody had recent experience? Thanks

  • +1

I never got the yubikey from the last one.
Did the digital sub from memory.

  • Offer states yubikey will be shipped after the trial ends and payment is processed. Perhaps the terms have changed.

  • I kept my sub after the free trial and got the Yubikey from the last deal.

    • You mean you paid for the subscription after the free trial, and then received the Yubikey - right?

      • Actually no. It turned up about 8 weeks after submitting the order, which was about a month before I got charged.

    • -1

How much was shipping for the Yubikey?

      • It was free last time, but they seem to have changed some things this time.

        • -2

Actually, it changed while the last offer was running. Signed up with certain terms and condtions and they changed them after I handed over my credit card details.

      • Back then it didn't cost anything extra, just the $19.99 USD for the subscription.

        • -3

          That wasn't the deal

Title of last deal: "Free Yubikey with WIRED Trial"

Content of last deal : "Free Yubikey with a 3 month trial subscription. Yes you have to give CC details and it ships international"

If you paid $19.99 the deal was misleading and invalid.

        • -2

I just saw above that you got your Yubikey even before they charged you. My guess is you got in before they arbitrarily changed the terms and conditions without telling anyone.

  • After the 3-month free trial, you will be charged $19.99 (plus international shipping fees) for an additional 1 year of access and your YubiKey will be shipped.

Seems to suggest they will wait until they have charged you to ship the yubikey?

  • Title is wrong/misleading. No way to get the Yubikey for only $10 USD. You either pay full price for a digital subscription ($19.99 USD) and get a free Yubikey (as the promo price only applies to digital+print subscription), or get digital + print, and pay $40 USD in total (incl. $30 USD shipping).

If you aren't in a rush, best deal is 3 months free and then the digital only subscription for $19.00, but you won't be seeing your Yubikey for several months ("After the 3-month free trial, you will be charged $19.99 (plus international shipping fees) for an additional 1 year of access and your YubiKey will be shipped.")

This is still cheaper than buying from Yubikey direct ($40 USD plus $5 shipping), or eBay ($75+ AUD).

  • +1

Deal corrected now. The discount does not work for digital subscription and you'll need to pay a min of $19,99 USD.

    • Thanks, I didn't actually go ahead with the checkout for the 1y sub.

  • -2

I never got a Yubikey from the last time, these scumbags changed the terms and conditions while the deal was running. From memory it was a pain to cancel as well. Not worth the hassle or handing over your credit card details.

    • I did get mine after a number of weeks, but it was before the subscription ended. I forgot to cancel my sub before the trial ended so they charged me the $20USD. I spoke with a customer rep and they refunded prorata 11 months of subscription.

      • -2

I cancelled when I realised they had changed the terms. No paid subscription = no yubikey. You got lucky. I wouldn't trust them.

        • +1

it arrived 2 months after signing up even though they changed the terms. you should have just waited…

        • @fattehhbunnehh: I did wait. I realised the terms were changed when I rechecked them after 2 months and no Yubikey .

        • So you decided to leave early from the last deal & … missed out! That was your choice!!

Did you check t&c before agreeing to them?

If t&c changed AFTER you signed up, you would have qualified. This happens in deals…
eg I got ShopBack to admit t&c changed during deal & guarantee Cashback for those buying before that date

Did you contact business to see if you qualified before leaving early?

But you couldn't wait & apparently left before it posted… meant no Yubikey.

You had plenty of time to cancel if leaving early, but you were in so much hurry that you couldn't wait for web method to be fixed or email etc them… Web method was "down", I had to phone them in the US.

But neg this deal… Now that's chutzpah!

        • @Infidel: 25% of the people who mention the last deal in this thread didn't get a Yubikey from it. I followed the conditions of the original deal and they broke it, which makes them dodgy therefore negged. BTW 2 months is longer than 6-7 weeks. Simple enough for you?

        • @Baron-K:
That doesn't mean many didn't receive the Yubikey - see the last deal!
Very few comments in the last deal that they didn't receive key! No forum of angry Ozbargainers…
If people received the Yubikey, they would not qualify for this deal.

          In that popular deal
          127+
          0-
          no votes revoked
          (4867 clicks).

That's a lot of people taking up that offer. And few complaints…

For various reasons that won't be known unless they ask, some will likely miss out. It's unfortunate.

You didn't even vote or comment on that deal, but now…

People happy with a deal are less likely to comment after getting the deal. Those who miss out are usually very vocal & respond early to next deal.

As I showed in the above link, I have experience getting deals honoured when deal t&c change after the deal is published.

Why didn't you contact them since you're so angry about missing out. But you were in such a rush, rang them, & cancelled early…

I notice you didn't answer any of my points to help ensure you got the deal.

        • lol, ok whatever monsignor Inspector ozbargain

    • Was very easy to cancel. Received 3 physical copies of Wired & YubiKey free in last deal.

      • -1

Web method was "down", I had to phone them in the US.

  • If you're a student (I am), the same deal applies, but for only $10. The student form seems to be lacking a 'country' field though. Has anyone tried doing it this way?

  • I tried to do the right thing last time. If the Yubikey arrived in good time I was getting a subscription. I waited until the second last day of the 3 month trial but couldn't wait any longer. I did not want to end up with a subscription I didn't really want and no Yubikey. The next day Yubikey arrived.

  • Do you guys use this for authentication on all websites? Or instead of saving passwords to chrome or something? Sorry for noob question.

    • +1

I only use mine for LastPass, which then has all my other passwords. Most "websites" don't themselves support 2FA. Mainly the big ones like Google, Microsoft, etc.

  • Got mine from the last offer a month after the three month free trial. Works perfectly. Really glad I went ahead with it.

I was able to cancel the subscription after that by simply logging into my account and got a pro-rated refund. Very happy.

  • Can you use the same Yubikey on more than one computer for Windows sign in?

    • You just register each PC separately. The Yubikey itself doesn't store anything so as far as Windows concerned it's just a 2FA device. It can't possibly know that it's been used with another machine.

  • I've signed up 2 accounts, first account got the YK in the following month, the other one I just received it yesterday, after 6 months waiting and I've even forgot about it until I saw this post!!

  • How is it that I register with another email and get the same subscription number :S

      • +1

Yeah $30 Au shipping kills it.

      • +2

Just change to digital only access.

    • +1

I thought that international subscriptions were USD$19.99.

And I also haven't received my key from a month or two ago.

      • How long from when you subscribed to when you received it? I've been waiting almost a month so far

        • ? I haven't received mine either.

    • +1

Received my yubikey. Just FYI you should have two of these as a 2fa key. One doesn't do much at all. Also can only be used on a phone with USB connection. Other yubikey has wireless connection for phones.

      • What? Why would anyone need two?

        • What happens when you lose the only one you have?

      • Why would you need two? Generally two factor uses two different forms of authentication, not two of the same. So a key such as this plus a password or a one time PIN or similar. That way if someone finds a flaw in one method you have a completely seperate second authentication pathway they'd also need to compromise.

The Neo does look like the more handy model but, for sure.

          https://landing.google.com/advancedprotection/

          Answered in FAQ below.

Two Security Keys are required to enroll so that you’ll have a backup key in case you lose your main key. A wireless-enabled key that can connect to both your computer and mobile devices should act as your main key.

          • @askbargain: You don't need two in general for 2FA, that's just a policy decision by Google.

          • +1

@askbargain: @kapone: If you're going to use a hardware authentication, you might as well have 2.

          • @askbargain: Thats for Googles services though right, not universal? It shouldn't be a requirement across the board. Heck two points down Google has a process for dealing with lost keys so there is a way to get back in if you lose the physical keys. Shouldn't be much different to other 2FA schemes where often there'll be some backup codes or similar introduced should you lose access to one of the authentication methods.

But yeah ok, looks like Google at least is asking for 2 based on that.

          • +1

@askbargain: @Smigit: Google also allows one, but for this 'program' you need 2 as a backup. It also makes sense to have 2 as a spare.

          • @askbargain: @Smigit: they recommend anyone using physical keys for 2fa to have two. You don't need two.

          • @askbargain: @kapone: no it's just good practice otherwise you might shoot yourself in the foot depending on the service.

        • Technically a one-time code (normally provided via SMS, or a digital token) is the same factor as a Yubikey.

          The factors are:
          - Something you know (e.g. password)
          - Something you have (Yubikey, token, a phone)
          - Something you are (biometrics)

      • -replied to wrong post-

    • We've been through this before, it's approximately ~$30AUD
