Be warned, they only have 10/100 ports, don't expect the advertised 500Mbps point to point.

Think of it more like a switch with 500Mbps throughout but only 10/100 ports - you might hit the max, but you'll need at least 5 ports.

  • This is cheap but ideally you want a 10/100/1000 and (depending on your port setup) passthrough. Keep in mind that D-Link also frequently run promotions on their powerline adapters e.g. BOGOF.

  • I'm actually looking at some PoE devices. Can someone recommend a set with passthrough and gigabit?

500 Mbps is about 50 Mbps real life throughput. Which a 100 Mbps port is enough to cater for.

No that's not how any of it works.

  • I bought during last deal have to return, they will only connect if both power sockets run on same power line. In my case same side of wall. I had to use it in another room which has its on cable coming from meter, I believe this is how usually houses are wired anyways. I hope i have explained it correctly.

    • it has to be on the same circuit

you can test your circuit breaker on your main switch board to see which gpo is on the same circuit

electrical wiring can be all different

some ppl go cheap , only 1 circuit all gpos , some 1 per level , some 1 per room ….. yours is 1 per WALL ??????? LOL

      • good explanation thanks :-)
