    $305.15 Delivered

They were $303 delivered a couple of weeks back from Futu online.

Such details are trivial but OZB worthy.

Bitcoin was 2c a few years back. Unless you can go back in time this doesn't really matter.

      • +6

I'm not referring to a price 2 years back… I'm referring to what the price was the other week, and now we're posting a price rise as a bargain…

Sorry for being so snarky, but it reminds me of the time I accidentally ran over some people when driving my car in the shopping centre parking lot. Only AFTER did people start yelling at me saying 'you awful woman!, you ran over those kids!'… FFS! Like I didn't just feel crap enough as it was, but then to yell at me for something out of my control. I couldn't handle the abuse so just drove away, but I still get a little snarky when I remember the event. It's been 7 years now so I can talk about it as the statute of limitations has expired.

          @my mum:

What kind of car was it?

        • @jv:
          I was just kidding tbh.

Oh… OK. I think I still have the video of the incident on my youtube account.

        • @jv:
let's not relive that awful awful day

        • -1

Rest easy… that day must have been very traumatic for you. Especially the cleaning up afterwards. I hope you found an appropriate stick or twigs to pick out the bits and pieces from the undercarriage. How thoughtless people can be, calling you names like that. Did you sue for the damage to your car and stress caused? Surely the shopping centre management was found negligent in not restraining all children on their premises. They do move so quickly… like rodents really.

I hope you found your safe space. God bless.

    • and I quote: Almost as good as FUTU with 25% off.

You are correct in that they are slightly more expensive, and I actually bought one from that sale! I need 4 of the pricks so getting them at decent prices whilst getting different batches is a requirement for me. if you actually trawl through the comments on the site here someone got the reds for 280ish, which is a absolute steal (and under cost no doubt).

if you need a drive now, these are good value. if you want a seagate they are cheaper. if you want the toshiba's they are even cheaper too! but they run hotter/faster and make alot of noise.

These are $288.15 with eBay Plus delivered and the PERIPHERAL code in case people prefer Seagate.

      in case people prefer Seagate.

      most people don't…

Seagate have one of the highest failure rates.

      • +3

I used to believe that too but most recently Seagate actually improved and WD went up.

edit: For reference, I have no brand loyalty, I have 1x 3TB WD Red and 2x 8TB WD Reds in my server currently.

      • +11

I'm not storing my 256k lossless Taylor Swift tracks on a Seagate drive.

        nty.

        • +2

          Never ever getting back together?

      • Seagate have one of the highest failure rates.

It looks like it is still true.
I was using WD for years with no issues at all. Needed couple of drives for NAS upgrade so decided to go with IronWolf on the last Futu sale. What a mistake, one of two DOA :(

    • Damn. Looks like it’s out of stock :’(

I’m still stumped comparing Ironwolf to Red’s. People I’ve asked seem to be brand biased. I am not I’ve had many Seagate 2.5 externals and they’re still going strong.

My micro server is full (Reds), my externals are full. I’m about to populate my Synology. Seagate seem like the cheaper alternative.

Then I read this post: http://whrl.pl/Re6xX3 apples and oranges?

      • Seagate are 7200rmp, reds are 5400 and run cooler/quieter. The Seagate's have a higher failure rate compared to others according to backplane.

I've got 3tb reds in my microservers and are replacing them with 8s

  • -3

if you need 8TB you might aswell have my kids

    • +5

if you have kids, you need 8TB.

      • I found with kids, my need for data storage went down.

Free time is a luxury. It’s easier and less time consuming to stream.

    • +1

      8 terrible biters?

    • +1

About 60% full and climbing on 32tb at the moment.

  • -2

Are there any deals on 8th externals from eBay using this code.
    Thanks

    • +3

Why don't you do a search on eBay and find out…?
The code only works for one seller.

  • Any suggestions for a 2-bay NAS for a beginner? Looking to use it for photo/media storage and some media streaming from time to time

  • Would these be suitable to use in a day to day desktop PC to store photos and videos? Or are there better types out there? (E.g. WD green)

    • They will be fine to use in a desktop PC as well to store photos/videos. A RED drive would be classed better than a WD green drive, all depends how much you want to pay.
