Spotted this deal for the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi Motherboard at $516 – a very decent price if you’re in the market for a motherboard to pair with a 9800X3D. Shipping is slightly long but considering its ~$100 cheaper then any usual parts retailer from Australia could be worth for some people.

Key features of the board include:

Support for AM5 Ryzen processors.
PCIe 5.0 support for both graphics cards and storage.
WiFi 6E for fast wireless connectivity.
Plenty of connectivity options including USB-C and multiple M.2 slots.
It’s a solid option for a mid-to-high-end build with future-proofing in mind.

Not to put this deal down:

Anyone shopping for the 870 series boards should consider the ASRock B650 Steel Legend Wi-Fi (not the b650E or ice or other variations). We can get it for about $300 here in Australia, and is essentially an 870 board at a 650 price.

It has the same VRM as this MSI board.

    • Appreciate the recommendations @Celeriestix and @Bomalin

      Any suggestion for SFF?

    • Pretty similar case with the gigabyte aorus boards right?

    • Posted below another option, as I think you will find getting your hands on a B650 from AsRock pretty challenging right now. Most places are going to have either no stock or super limited.

Yeah ASRock boards are very hard to come by locally for some reason so you're left with either sourcing them from Amazon (likely to come from EU or Japan), or go with a different brand.

The relevant threads on Reddit do seem to favour ASRock first for AM5 then MSI as second with Asus/Gigabyte being distant recommendations.

        • agree 100%

        • I got ASRock b650m PG riptide wi-fi and it has horrible coil whine, I can't use it at all. I hate it

    • what about white version?

This one is going to be a better bet for most. https://amzn.asia/d/cb40anf Note long delivery timelines as well.

A X670E is going to be more beefy than a base level X870. If its the X870E version then sure but it won't be this price either.

Edit: To add, I bought this exact board about two weeks ago.

Yeah i dont see any difference between x670e and x870e other than stuff you probably never used(like wifi7e lmao). Tomahawk is a solid board at this price point.

  • This was lower a week or two ago; Amazon AU had it for something like $475 shipped from the UK (albeit back then it was for a late Dec-Jan delivery).

Goddamn it, want a normal priced AM5 motherboard with PCIe bifurcation. But they are all $900+

Got one of these a month or so back. Reviews are positive.
Able to find the non e version in aus for around $600 aud.

  • Waiting for atx back connect motherboards

  • I picked this up a few weeks ago on Amazon, and so far, it’s been pretty solid. I did run into an issue enabling EXPO on the Corsair Vengeance RAM I paired with it, which seems to be a common issue with that set. However, it worked perfectly right out of the box with the G.SKILL Trident Z Neo.
