Low price on this 2.5" SATA SSD in the capacity of 1TB thanks to the 25% off coupon. Given the low price this is perfectly fine for use a game storage drive or inserted in a 2.5" enclosure for use as a portable SSD.

This one is offering sequential write speeds up to 500MB/s, sequential read speeds up to 480MB/s with a 300TBW and pSLC cache instead of DRAM cache.

  • Redeem 25% off promo code under the price

As for the technical aspects I checked out a heap of Japanese/Russian reviews and even asked Orico directly to verify. The 1TB capacity SSDs are using Intel QLC flash memory with either SMI or Yeestor controllers depending on the batch. QLC + DRAMless is why it's so cheap compared to ones with TLC and/or DRAM.

Wouldn't be better off going for a branded name like Silicon Power? https://www.msy.com.au/product/silicon-power-ace-a55-1tb-tlc…

Orico is a branded name. Just be mindful of the high failure rate reported on OzBargain and elsewhere online for the Silicon Power A55.

      Backups, backups, backups.

Got one of their enclosures and it wasn't great. Not sure if I would trust them with data.

    • Orico are pretty upfront about what they use in their enclosures. Early JMicron chipsets without the newer firmware released later had issues.

      • I think I got one of these lemons and it bricked. Turning it on is giving me a beep beep sound . Is there a way to fix or should I just sold it for parts?

        • If you're able to find what controller it has it might be possible to reflash the firmware. Check the ICs if possible. Otherwise the model on Orico.cc might say.

  • … Orico SSD?

Unless my problem was that I'd run out of M.2 sockets on my motherboard, I'd by a $59 3000+MB/s Verbatim Vi3000 1TB gen3 NVMe drive from centre.com. These days I just go into the BIOS and turn off the SATA controller as something from another era that's no longer needed. Like the onboard sound when you've got a HDMI or DP screen with speakers.

I still go with sata drives because here in QLD with the heat I don’t want the continual battle trying to keep NVMe drives cool in NUCs and SFFs where airflow is limited.

      • Genuinely asking, what's the concern with nvme drive heat compared to cpu, gpu etc and how is sata better?
I'd never heard of this but also haven't looked at pc building for years.

        • It's just an abundance of caution. That said my (and I'm sure most people's) nvme is right next to the gpu heatsink and gets blasted by hot air all the time and it's still fine

        • NVMe run hot naturally and often sit around the 50-70 degree range. You wouldn't want them to exceed 85-90 degrees as they could start to throttle.

From the people that brought you the sometimes maybe SATA enclosures

Any 2tb SSD or M.2 SATA/NVMe SSD drives anyone know off, cheaper then buying 2x 1tb drives?
