Theses are great pro tip:the awitches are crap and the weak points so buy more than you needand take the crappy ones back

    • +3

Yes, those 3 position cheap slide switches (with rubber cover) are not designed for heavy use.

OFF-SENSOR-ON with little gap between the last 2. Confused some who thought sensor wasn't working, or maybe it was a faulty switch.

Switches have not been a problem in my use - as motion activated light in daily use since last sale.

There are 2 ways to use switch -
¤ motion sensor which means there is little need to touch switch, so should last
¤ as simple light, with switch turned on/off every use. That will be much harder on the switch, which may fail over time. Fiddly switch is not easy to locate in dark - so wouldn't recommend this use.

Keep receipt as return to store in first year is an easy refund in my experience.

Like Scab, would recommend buying more than you need - they won't be there if you return for a replacement!
Use the 60 day easy returns policy.

        You really know your positions.

        • +1

He's pretty switched on for sure.

  • +1

how do they charge in the shed? or is there an external solar panel you can unwind & pop outside (is that the 2.3m cable?)?

    • It looks like so from the photo

    • Yes.

      • Cheers!

  • +3

This thing is quite good. Bright enough and you can separate the light in the undercover area when the solar panel can be somewhere absorbs the power from the sunlight. Better than those ebay one piece ones.

  • +5

These things are great I've had 2 of them for 2 years.
One for the backyard and one for my entrance.
Works a treat and the sensor has a good range.

    • +2

Yes I agree. I had one for almost 2 years still working good! I also had some solar garden lights from Bunnings but only worked for two months.

    • +2

^^^This & That, agree with both with similar rresults^^^

  • Bunnings has a similar one that I've looked at before https://www.bunnings.com.au/solar-magic-40-lumen-smd-led-sol… for $1.09 cheaper
But at 40 lumens I never actually bothered buying it

    • +2

The bunnings one doesn't have a Motion Sensor

    • This one listed here by OP is only 35-40 Lumes but works very well for it's purpose.

    • +1

I have got Bunnings one, it doesn't have motion sensor but thats not my problem. It says it is 40 lumens, it seems quite dim light to me. Aldi once have similar lumens, has anyone use both? I am interested to know brightness in comparison.

  • +1

Can these be installed on the roof to scare possums away?

    • +5

It is against the terms and conditions but I'm sure you could do it

  • +11

    AZIZ.. LIGHT!!!

    • +1

      much better, thank you Aziz.

  • -2

Oh nice! So what am I looking at again? Does it shoot bullets?

  • Do they come with screws etc. for attaching both?

    • +1

Yes, but go easy on them because they can strip easily.

  • -6

You will need at lease 20+ LEDs for reasonable brightness, also not the low end SMD led, this one hardly useful for everyone.

  • +11

Thanks for shedding some light on this deal.

  • 35-40 lumen; bright enough for a driveway ?

  • how it compare to Xiaomi Yeelight Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Light?
I want something like that for entrance of house for ease of access to open door lock.

    • I have a Mijia at the entrance. I put it on the ground, which is just barely enough (3.8 lumen) for me to find the correct key and the lock. But I figure it would be bright enough if it's installed at the same height as the lock. Yeelight is 3.5-7 lumen

    • +1

These are a shed light not a yard light, so if you are only lighting a space a few metres from the light they are really quite bright.

  • +1

I have bought several ARILUX AL-SL11 Solar Power lights from Banggood. They come highly recommended and have been using them for over a year

    • I have one of them and it's working well even with very rainy and windy weather. Quite a strong harsh light too for outside. Cost me circa $30 - pretty good value. Hoping it survives the summer though.

  • I got one of these but unfortunately, it was a dud. Died within 2 weeks of using it.

    • +4

Maybe it required fossilfuel to keep going?

  • Mine lasted 6 months outside of garage. Exposed to rain. The wingnut and bolt on the hinge was rusting too. Bought the Arlec from Bunnings and much brighter although cost double

  • +1

Have 2 of these from last year.
That model was different to previous models. So this may have slight differences again.

1 other unit failed to hold charge & was returned. Light is not waterproof - filled with water!

Have the lights mounted inside the house with longer wires added to panels on roof. Had earlier replaced solar panel with USB cable & plug to charge from USB charger - worked well. But now run from panels.

Pretty handy as light stays on if there is any movement. Light in kitchen provides enough light to move around & make a drink etc. Light is quite bright.

Have been in use entire year with no issues. Handy lights & sensitive sensors.
    Will buy a few more.

    • Its normally waterproof though right?

They claim to be for outdoors

      • Panel is waterproof, but light is designed to install inside shed - hence the name.

Light filled up with water outside every time it rained. There is no waterproofing - just 2 pieces of plastic housing screwed together.

        • It says IP44 water resistant though…

          very weird

        • +1

          @samfisher5986:
          In last year's model…
The adjustable light head (housing the LEDs) filled with water, but I suspect water did get into the base (with electronics) as unit failed after 2 months.

Light was definitely not water resistant. Claimed same water resistance in the ones I bought last year. Panel would be water resistant, as that, cable & cable connector are meant to be installed outside.

Just checked carton - it claims "IP44 LIGHT & SOLAR PANEL" - which is untrue. Don't expect light to last long in the weather!

        • -3

          @samfisher5986:

Ip44 is for under cover and next to useless.

    • Silicone it up.

      • +1

… Or Aldi / manufacturer should meet specifications claimed on box!

I found plumbers Thread Seal Tape worked best, much less messy, & units sealed up without any sign of change. Opened up light head & ran around where both surfaces press together. No more leaks.

But unit progressively failed to charge a while later (possibly faulty battery), so returned.

    • Mines been screwed to the fence for 2 years in elements no issues apart from wingnut rusting

      • +1

Past experience with different model can't predict quality of this model.

This model could be an improvement over last year, despite looking same in photo as mine.

As I pointed out above about last year's shed light That model was different to previous models.

Was discussed in deal last year. (eg different ON time when activated by sensor - that model 90s, previous said to be 30s)

With Aldi, description, look, features may appear the same, but unit may be very different & from different factory.

The plastic mounting (unit slides onto it) is very flimsy. Mounting from failed light is still outside. I doubt it will last much longer.

  • Good timing and better price than anything I found at Bunnies

  • I bought a couple when they came out originally. That was 2/3 years back and they were $17/17.99 then. Hopefully improved. Unfortunately mine did not last with battery not recharging. So definitely keep your receipts for these ones - returns involved sending back somewhere freepost.

    • +1

Aldi accept at store for refund - as they have to under Australian Consumer Law.
(Supplier to Aldi often request return to them, but not necessary or convenient.)

Had no trouble getting refund last year (leaky light plus similar reduced operating time as battery failed to charge).

Yes do keep those receipts - quality control can be flaky at Aldi. Hence differing opinions on same model.

And 60 day return policy means you can see if these are suitable for you.

  • I felt the cable is really flimsy for the elements, so taped the cable to increase its life. Been going well for over a year now.

    • Solid copper cable inside should be ok. Outer sheath plus inner cable covering protects it. Just don't let it be allowed to move around, flexing or damaging it (don't hang unsupported, attach to wire etc).

No problems run over tile roof over last year. Unlike the rest of unit, cable can be replaced with little cost or experience needed.

Like the rest of the unit, the plastic will degrade. For $15 it is likely to last a few years.

  • +1

Bought a couple - same as last year's model. (Ran side by side - stays on 90s after last movement detected, same detection area, same light output, same circuit, etc)
2016 model was apparently different according to comments in last year's deal.

  • My local Brisbane Aldi just reopened after remodelling. About 150 of these in stock. Guess there will be a price reduction soon!
