However, $185 Return currently via FlightScout links, flights at least in March 2019, but the Virgin sale implies it's dates between Sep and June.

Yes, i can agree with flying. Driving from North Shore takes 5.5hours on Fridays with traffic. I've been doing for 4 months now
Flying doesn't save you much time at all, the plane trip alone is an hour plus whatever travel time from your place to the airport and from the airport to your destination. Then again if you've lost your licence like I did then probably no choice but to cop it sweet (and save an hour from bussing up and down). Oh those ATR72 on a windy day is an experience in itself…just don't overindulge in the lounge like I did prior to departure.

Murray's is by far cheaper and the total travel time from CBD to CBD is about the same.
Murray's also offer discounted pricing for students and pensioners, and if you make 5 journeys in a 12 month period your 6th journey is free.
Greyhound is a good alternative too if the times suit … I use them more often since less crowded and bigger seats and same price
Yeah 35-40 one way - i've found them pretty comfortable so far after a few trips, good way to access those international flight deals out of sydney - flying canberra to anywhere is so expensive.

It is worth looking at the Virgin Happy Hour sales on Thursdays 4-11pm. We are going Melbourne to Perth return, in September, for $350 each, i.e. $175 each way. I should've jumped a couple of weeks earlier as they had $150 each way but it was the first week I checked and I got greedy.
