I would not suggest Catch connect, i am not sure is Catch or Optus. The service constantly drop out and no reception.

i have been sim hopping and Catch is the least that I preferred so far.

I'm on Catch Connect. And the service is fine in my area. It would be bad reception on the Optus network in your area.

      • At sydney CBD and on the train to Strathfield.

Dont think the reception should be this bad0

        • In any case. Chances are if you put it in any other rebranded Optus SIM into the phone you would get the same result. The Catch Connect SIM is basically a rebranded Optus SIM with a Catch ID in it. You would probably even get the same result with an Optus branded SIM itself. It could be just an over congested Optus mobile transmission tower in the area. The CBD would be highly congested. But even in that case then it should fall back to 3G.

Either that or your phone doesn't support all of the proper frequencies which Optus 4G mobile uses. Mine is a Sony Xperia XA Ultra and it supports all the proper frequencies. And not once has it ever dropped out on Catch Mobile.

You shouldn't completely lose connection as it should fall back to 3G.

I would avoid … They ended up loosing my number through porting … There system is shambles !

    • No provider simply loses your number, unless you cancelled the service prior to porting or let the service lapse.
It ends up in quarantine for ~6 months before it is handed over to the original carrier.

What did the TIO say when you raised the matter with them?

      • I had to directly deal with Optus because they use there network …. Because catch customer service can't even talk to there own porting team… Optus had no idea why it happen…. After hours of being pass to different people I gave up! They couldn't trace the number anymore because they were aguring the number lapse but I signed up to a 90 day prepaid plan with catch and only ended up using a week.

As I said catch's system is flawed there is no provider that this could happen too

      • i agree rayzies, i NEVER believed it could happen either, but my brother lost his number porting. It was unbelievable when it happened, really. Nothing they could do, nothing optus could do… Really weird..

Agree with the risks of porting with catch.
I ported to catch on a Saturday afternoon and they ported my number in matter of minutes, my old sim was disconnected and catch sim was up and running, received phone calls and texts.
I was at home with wifi and all seemed ok. later that day I went out with no wifi and found out the sim didn’t have data nor any credits to call or text out. It seemed to me the prepaid plan hasn’t been activated correctly.
I rang Helpdesk on Sunday morning. They logged a call with technical team and then issue was fixed on Monday morning.
I don’t know what you call that porting, half lost?

To anyone porting, better check the data and outgoing calls after the porting.

  • Yeah, I purchased a 365 day plan with Catch when on promo recently. Painless port. Great service. No issues so far. I'm happy! Great value.

Of course, your milage may vary, as with any mobile service huh?

I would avoid CatchConnect, I tried porting from Telstra to CatchConnect. After 4 days of no success, I asked them to cancel the port because of the delays and they agreed to cancel then somehow ported me CatchConnect but canceled the plan. They are a nightmare to deal with.

  • It is ok

  • Worth getting for a month of Data then cancelling? Still using my 23gb from the $1 Kogan deal

    • it's what I was thinking, want to test out a new phone but my old one is used for business, under this deal get a new number and sim, and play with the extra phone …$4.50 cant go wrong.

      • for an extra 40¢ you can get 8gb more from Kogan deal here

    • just get this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/390111

      15 GB plan

with cash back net profit of $20.

28 day plan, 2 days less than this one.

I cannot recommend catch connect. I regularly port my number to several providers based on promotions etc and by far this for me personally has been the poorest. I’ve had a handful of situations where I lose connection or iMessages were delayed due to having no access to data. I contacted catch connect and without explanation said word for word “You can choose to port out at any time if you wish to conclude your service with us.”.
