thanks mate! just giving it a go! Had great feedback from customers so far

I've just launched my frozen banana chunk delivery service.

When you were growing up did you always want to be a frozen banana chunk delivery driver?

    • -1

      no

    • +1

haha train driver - half way there!

  • Product of Australia?

    • -1

Product of Vietnam - almost all frozen IQF bananas are from overseas unfortunately but they're delicious!

      • What variety?

      • I saw on this documentary - a while ago & Craig filmed tonnes of bananas going to waste in QLD as they were too big, too bent, or too straight to sell at the supermarkets. I'm guessing this likely wouldn't be an issue for frozen banana chunks.

        • eh

bannanas are one of the fruits where being too bent or straight or big is a totally appealing thing

  • I paid $1.50 a kilo yesterday at the Queen Vic market… Only to walk a couple of metres and find them for $1 a kilo…

I think its a great idea though!

    • thanks for the support rambutann!

    • I paid $4.5/kg at Vic market yesterday… But only because my wife has a metaphorical hard on for organic.

OP should consider an organic offering if they haven't already; those credulous enough to buy in, and those that live with them, will stump up some savage surcharges for them.

      • Hi ely was that for frozen or fresh bananas?

The best bit about frozen is NO wastage, your per kilo price is for 100% banana, no peel

        Have a great week! Simon

        • +1

Fresh, so apples to oranges comparison 🤣

I'm pointing out the premium that organic attracts (see others posting $1.5/kg bananas) and that many seem to be willing to pay for, as that might possibly be a good option for you to market, not trying to complain about price ;)

  • Haha cool idea!

    • +1

      Thanks dylo!

  • Good luck with the business, do you have plans for WA? Just found a little spelling error on your website, should be 'throw' instead of 'through':

'snap frozen & delicious bananas chunks to through straight into your blender each and every morning.'

    • Hi denlife thank you for support I will change the error!!

I only have distribution methods set up in SA/VIC/NSW - until I hit "critical mass" it's just too expensive to store

      Sorry!

      Simon

  • So are they Goldfinger bananas?

  • +1

The savvy ozbargainers would go to the market to buy the old bananas for $1 a kilo, but this is a great idea and I hope you do well with it!

    • +2

thanks BugsBunny! Ozbargainers are a hard lot to crack!

  • +7

There's money in that banana stand. wink

    • +3

How much is banana Michael, $10?

      • +2

You've never set foot inside a supermarket, have you?

        • -4

You've never watched Arrested Development, have you?

        • +3

          @RangaWal:
That question would make sense if both of my comments weren't direct quotes from the show.

  • Well done and hope to hear about Perth and WA regional delivery soon.

    • cheers sn809!!

  • Why wouldn't we buy bananas ourselves, peel, cut and freeze them, and save money?

    • +1

You're more than welcome to movieman, I just know having made smoothies for myself and my wife for years that I go through a lot and it's quite a bit of effort.

These are 2.5kg bags that sit in your freezer ready to go, already peeled and chunked.

      cheers :)

      • -2

        I understand.

Just trying to understand the convenience of $3 plus per kg.

        DIY - buy 10kg @ $2 = $20.

        Buy from your store - 10kg @ $5 = $50.

Hence a $30 premium to have it 'delivered' in frozen condition. I'm not willing to pay such an excessive markup.

        • +2

          "excessive markup" ?

Boy, are you going to get a shock when you find out how the rest of the world works.

Btw, your rough calculations assume a pretty optimistic buy price, and don't account for the weight of the skins

        • Did you account for the cost of the banana peel?

        • @outlander:

Eat the bananas and use the peels on your skin.

          @Yesall:

USDA lists raw banana peel as 36% refuse.

So 10kg of raw bananas should be ~6.4kg edible bananas or $3.125 p/kg.

        • +1

          @outlander:

          weight of the skins

The peel should be ~36% of the fruit.

        • +1

          @Yesall:

Yes, sure did. 'rambutann'.above mentioned they bought bananas at Queen Victoria Market for $1.50 per kg, and also found then for $1 per kg, hence why the above calcs were based on $2 to account for peel.

Each to their own, just seems poor value.

        • @movieman:

So now I gotta go all the way to the Queen Vic market to buy bananas? Thats an hour in, an hour out. Even at minimum wage thats $50 worth of time spend to save a few dollars. THAT is poor value

  • I'd love to support your business. Just one issue, the frozen banana half box is 38 dollars for 5kg but the box is only 49 dollars for 10 kg. I understand this business strategy but I live alone and cannot consume so many bananas in a short time. People like me may pass if they are in the same situation.

    • Hi Yesall what state are you in? I will see if I can PM you with a special discount code if you're interested

      Simon

      • Hi @Yesall I have made some adjustments to the pricing (free shipping) so it's become quite affordable to give it a try.

        Trust you'll enjoy it

        Simon

  • July is title improvement month.

    • In future, please mention the store/retailer in the title.

That's been fixed. Moderators and power users spend time fixing titles throughout the day and any help is appreciated. Thanks for posting!

  • K-K-K Queensland b-b-b bananas, they’re the best bananas in the world!

    Any delivery available for Qld?

  • The obvious question here is do you’ve a food authority certificate and what is the number?

  • +2

This isn't a bargain, their whole claim is being cheaper, but they are more expensive.

    Coles/Woolworths is $30.90kg. They are $55

Your fruit shop will be cheaper.

These are Vietnam bananas as well… terrible!

No reason to pay more for bananas that have been processed and frozen by some random person.

Its better to use fresh bananas in your smoothie.

    Bananas also last for ages.

    • Sam our's are $55 for 10kg, not 1kg

      • +2

        Coles/Woolies are $30.90 for 10kg is what I meant.

And thats for Australian bananas, not Vietnam bananas

  • +2

Not sure how I came across this, but I am disgusted you are selling Vietnam bananas. Also the price is a rip off, even if they are peeled and how did you get $10/kg for bananas??
