Did a very quick search - looks to be cheaper here - $557.48 using promo code PICKITUP:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-XAV-AX5000-Bluetooth-USB-AV…

  • Edit: This Sony has capacitive, was thinking different model

    Get the Clarion FX508AU

Way better, capacitive screen - $450 with code PLATYPUS

Interesting reviews on Sony's site with the following complaining about slow scrolling through music from a fully loaded 64GB USB key.

I don't know if this has an impact here or not, but the first USB interface (for your phone) is USB 2.0, and the second interface (for your music thumbdrive) is USB 1.1. Yes, you read that right. USB 1.1.

  • clarion looks decent how does it compare with the sony?

The Sony is better, bigger screen and better design. Two usb ports is great too, yeah it's slow but you could use one for charging or powering one of those Viofo drive cams.

I'm still optimistic that Frankie will one day post an actual bargain.

  • How do you know if this fits in your car? And how much does it cost to get it installed?

    • Requires a double DIN sized compartment in your car.

Cost depends on who you go to. Try your local car audio store.

    • If you tell us the year/make/model it might help…

  • Great system, I have it in my pathfinder.

  • Looks great, might be time to do away with my cheap chinese android headunit.

  • Not heaps connected to this, but thought I'd ask anyway - has anyone had any experience with, or connections to someone who knows how, installing an aftermarket unit into a fascia with the AC and everything all in one? I have a Subaru Outback 06 model for reference. Anyone done something similar?

    • anything like a 13 wrx?
the cover pops off with the vents attached to the back.
need some soft plastic tools to carefully pry off without marking

      • Nah it's really not, there's no DIN slot at all, it's all one big trim piece with the aircon and radio.

You can get replacement fascias for some cars. For my i30 I paid $400 for the install with reverse cam which required cutting into oem fascia. Go to https://aerpro.com first to find out what other bits you need to connect the radio

Look on YouTube for installation tips. Get a Subaru to iso harness, and iso to Clarion/Sony harness for tidy easy wiring fitout, without having to cut wires.

  • No GPS Navigation function ?

    • Just use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

  • can you watch tv on this? what optional component(s) is required?
