There is a new Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurant opened at the basement of Regent Place in the city called Yakiniku Yokocho and they doing this 50% off grand opening offer for three days. The fitout is amazing I must say. The queue last night was up to Daiso around the corner so I will try queuing up at 4 this arvo.

"Waited from 6pm to 7:45pm, only for the staff to say they sold out, there was no compensation or anything. Was disappointed to have waited almost two hours for nothing"
I'd be pretty annoyed if that happened.
Compensation for what? Some people have such huge chips on their shoulders.
The restaurant would know they have capacity for XXX diners in a given evening, so why not just have a sign up list or start turning people away, once they're at capacity. Yeah, they might miss out on a selling a couple of meals this way, but it's a hell-of-lot better than turning people away after they're been waiting for almost 2 hours.
I can't comment on what compensation the person on google was expecting, but a voucher for a some free drinks or 50% off (after their opening hump) would go a long way.
In these two hours, they've got a valuable lesson on how the real life works - you don't always get what you want.
They should have compensate the restaurant instead, for giving them the priceless life coaching experience.

In fairness, the average rating hasn't updated. They have 8 * 5 star and 1 * 1 star … average should be back to 4.5 stars soon.
From their facebook page - only 56 tables!!!
To ensure that we maintain the highest levels of service to our valued customers and to minimise the disappointment of guests being turned away after hours of waiting in the queue, we have decided to limit our service to 56 tables on Saturday, 7th July.
We will be issuing tickets to the first 56 tables of guests only and unfortunately, will not be accepting any further guests.
Never had we imagined the amazing response we have had to our 50% off opening special and thank our valued customers for their support and enduring the long queues.
