  • Is this suitable for outdoor as well?

    • Mine peeled off after two months…

      • -1

What did it peel off from?

        • +1

          An unprepared surface of course.

    • LED strip is IP65 (waterproof) but the driver is IP20 (not waterproof).

For outdoor usage you'll probably want a driver that's waterproof.

  • Is it easy to install? I am not talking about the 3M self-adhesive tape but the electrical side.

    • +1

Plug the power connector into the strip and you're done, couldn't be simpler.

  • Does this come with or does it need an adapter?

    • +2

Comes with an adapter, as per the description.

  • +1

No free shipping to WA, just tried with 5 in cart.

    Road Express $14.85

    • Ah shit, sorry man, wasn't aware of the exclusions. I've added them to the description now.

At least you can use the TAKE15 code if the order is 300 before the discount, and that indirectly covers the shipping cost, making it $17.997 each shipped if ordering 6.

    • Shame. i wanted a few of them.

  • would this be suitable for kitchen cabinet lighting?
or better to use something from Ikea like this https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/departments/ki…

    thanks

    • -1

I think this would work well for kitchen lighting, it's also cheaper and 5 meters, so you can do more with it.

You can always cut the LED strip and use join strips using concealed wiring for separate areas.

This kit is equivalent to this and a 1 port driver, but as you can see Ikea sells the strip by itself for $45 vs $18 for the lot from JD Lighting.

As always, consider your use case and where you plan on using it, everyone has different preferences and what suits me may not suit you.

      • +2

        Thanks,

do you have a link for the concealed wiring you mentioned?

  • $10.53 shipping to Melbourne CBD, so better to buy two and take advantage of the free shipping :)

  • Any idea if you can join and run two of these off the one driver?

    • Hold on, I'll check, probably can't.

      • Cheers. Worst case can you join the two lengths and run off a different driver?

        • +1

          Doesn't work.

Yeah, a different driver should be able to do it. This should work, along with various other similar products.

        • @BradleyDS2: do all of these LED strips use the same standard connection?

          sorry for the noob questions

        • -1

@impoze: Yep, usually they do. Check the number of copper connections at the cutting points, standard 1 colour like this uses 2, positive and negative, but if there's different colours then it needs more connections.

Almost everything with LED strips standardised though, but some may require different voltage/amps.

        • Actually, checked again. It does work, but I did notice a slight difference in lighting, not sure if it would damage them long term.

        • @BradleyDS2: Are you connecting them in series or parallel?

        • -1

          @schquid: Series

        • @BradleyDS2: probably hit the power limit of the driver, it'll boost the voltage to run 2x the normal load but that will cause the current to drop. It'll work but the driver probably won't last long, unless they ship it with an overspec driver

    • You can run many strips off one driver, but the driver has to be able to supply enough current to run them all. Otherwise they'll be dim, or the driver's overcurrent protection will kick in and all the lights will start blinking or just switch off.

If you connect the strips one after the other (so you end up with one long strip), the LEDs on the far end will be dimmer as there's a lot of resistance in the thin copper strips. If you want to maintain brightness you'll have to run meatier power cables from the driver to the start of the second strip.

The Ikea driver linked to above is only 19W, whereas this single strip is 30W. It is not suitable even for one strip.

  • Noob questions
    What is length/dimensions of driver?
What is length between plug and driver?
What is length between driver and led strip?

  • +1

Exclusions apply to WA, SA, NT & Tasmania.

Why? They all have Australia Post & Electricity.

    • +1

because it costs more to send there from QLD vs east coast - NSW/VIC

      • +1

Nonsense. It would weigh under 500 grams. It's flat rate at that weight
They can also buy 500 gram Pre-Paid Satchels.

        • contract pricing

        • @LoopyLou:

Thanks for the feedback, we've fixed that up now, link and have implemented further guidelines regarding vote solicitation in comments going forward.

        • -4

Thanks hamza23. As explained to these people above, this is a rule. And thanks a lot BradleyDS2, WatchNerd, and LoopyLou for the neg's, /rolleyes

BradleyDS2, WatchNerd, and LoopyLou, please do not solicit votes in the future.

        • @OzBeergain:

Let's leave it at that please, it was valid feedback that the guidelines didn't expand on the solicitation of upvotes and previously this rule only applied to the OP of the deal (thus why LoopyLou's comment wasn't removed).

        • -5

          @hamza23:

I take it similarly it is not ok to solicit your mates/family to get them to garner upvotes and negs ;)

        • @OzBeergain: OP found a good price for this product.

  • what's the best way to diffuse these strip lights?

    is casing widely available?

    • -1

It's a standard 10mm so most casing should work for diffusing, just check the specs before you buy.

    • I'll copy and paste JD Lighting's comment from the previous deal and modify it to reflect the link you posted.

"This product is made by Eglo, a premium international lighting brand that invests in R&D for their products. You will find that every single component used in the strip light kit is superior to the ones found on eBay. For example, the LED driver will last much longer, the LED chips will be better constructed, the brightness will be higher etc. These are often things that the cheaper LED strips fail to mention about. This product is also fully Australian standards approved and has a 5 Year Warranty."

Based on the link you have just sent us, here's a brief summary:

      • 5 year warranty vs unknown
      • 2 amp larger driver vs unknown
      • 6W per metre vs unknown
      • 400 lumens per metre vs 200
      • High grade silicone vs unknown
      • 3M adhesive tape vs unknown

With the number of things that are unknown, either I missed them or they're deliberately not stating specs. If you find the details and I've just missed them, please let me know. I noticed it lists 72W but it doesn't state for which length that is.

Don't get me wrong, cheap lighting is good, but I'd recommend buying from Aliexpress instead to get the best prices if you don't need long lasting high quality strips and just need them for a temporary project or want to take a gamble with the savings.

      • I bought some of those cheap ebay LED strips's from China about a year back and mounted them under kitchen cupboards.
That particular sellers account is registered in China, btw.
The LEDs are noticeably dimmer (and greener) than they were when new, but still working and used daily.

  • -1

I'm presuming it's OK to cut the the power cord plug, and instead fit it with a light socket adapter (eg. https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-batten-holder-adaptor_p00433…) instead?

    • -1

Not sure what that is, but I can't see there being any problems driving it with a different source and just using it for the LED strip.

      • -1

To power by a 240v light bulb socket, instead of 240v mains plug socket.
        Thanks.

        • -1

Ah, the strips need 12V and I think it's 2A per 5 meters, the voltage might be off with that if it does a full 240V output.

    • -1

I'm presuming it's OK to cut the the power cord plug, and instead fit it with a light socket adapter

Yup, it's the same 240V as your power socket anyway.

  • Warm or cool light? Which is better

    • I'm wondering the same, which one looks nicer?

    • Warm always has a slightly yellow look. Cool is always very white.

    • Depends where you want to use it. Wife wanted 3000k all through the house and it does look a bit yellow. I'm getting these strips for kitchen, so definitely don't want my cooking looking yellow. She'll have to deal with the colour of 5000k.

  • +2
    • Built-in LED light source

I certainly hope all LED strips have LEDs built in!

    Anyone knows the CRI?

  • -1

Both are available, choose on the product page.

  • Tried order 2 , checkout and not free shipping though, why ?

    • -1

As per the description, exclusions apply to WA, SA, NT & Tasmania.

Are you in one of those territories or the country of Tasmania?

      • No freeshipping in QLD (North)

  • Are these 5050 leds and what amps is the 12V power supply. I do not understand how their 5050 leds can be brighter than the Chinese equivalent. It is good that yours are Au complient and I suppose that requires submitting for expensive testing.

    • -1

I'm not associated, but I can hopefully answer your questions as I have 2 with 6 more on the way (price for kit is about the same as for an LED strip).

The power supply is 2A output.

      They're 3020 LEDS.

    • Are these 5050 leds

From the photo it does look like 5050. No idea if these are brighter than cheap chinese ones, but there are many companies that make 5050 LEDs so brightness can vary.

and what amps is the 12V power supply.

That's a good question as the specs on the pack look wrong. It says max 1,100mA, and above that it's 6W/meter so that should be 30 watts, which would be 2,500mA.

      • -1

I measured them, they're 3020. The picture is for the RGB variant.

The power supply in the kit says on it that it's 2A but it could be wrong.

  • +1

Thank you, ordered 2, wife always wanted led lights in the kitchen. :) Chose cool white, I think it looks better than warm white.

    • -1

I agree, I hate warm white, replaced every light in the house with cool white, except the downlights as that caused a flickering problem.

  • +1

Thanks Bradley. Sound a bit low powered and just for cupboards. I tried the Chinese stuff for room lighting with a 5+amp, metal encased power supplies for a lot less money. The strips were good apart from when they were too cheap and not print labelled for polarity. The power supplies were well built and run cool except for when I tried a couple of black plastic 2amp ones that lasted only a few minutes and when opened were very primitive and without fuses and as everyone says, likely to burn your house down.

  • -3

Ah what the heck, got a few more :D

    • +2

      Don't forget to upvote.

    • +2

Sometimes I forget to vote. I remembered this time because the price is excellent.

      • +2

I always upvote if I take advantage of a deal, so thanks Op got 2 warm white.

One is for the bathroom under cabinet lighting. I don't need cool white for that as it's really just for ambient backlighting.

      • +1

I was so busy at work and missed this deal, but gave a plus-vote as the price is good.

        • Fair enough, it takes less than a second, it costs nothing, and it encourages OP to find more bargains.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks! this will do our new kitchen perfectly

  • Advice from anyone with experience. How would I go about having one strip on each top part of a shelf, so that 3 or so shelves have a strip above, and a cable coming down the side of each joining to the power where I can turn it on with a remote? I dont like the idea of snaking a 5m LED strip around each shelf, or having 3-4 strips to plug in separately. Thanks for the help.

    • -1

If you want both to turn on together get a controller to do that, then cut them and solder a wire to two separate strips, with both strips connected to the controller/power together.

      • Thakns for the info. As I'm completely novice at this, whats a controller. And are there any examples on the net with this soldering strip example?

        • +5

Ah, okay. A controller usually has either WiFi or a remote to control it, and it controls the lights. For these ones, this should be suitable and costs $2.60. Make sure you get a battery to go with it.

There's also ones for RGB and RGBW strips (coloured strips) to change colours, as they can't change colour without a controller.

For soldering, you should only need a very basic knowledge of soldering to be able to do it. They have contact points near where you cut, you can see the contact points because they're two copper circles, positive and negative, right next to the cutting lines.

Alternatively, JD Lighting said in the last deal that the thickness is 8mm source here so I'd recomment getting these for an extra $2 and soldering the wire to the metal on those, and that also allows you to retry if you stuff up the soldering.

Just make sure positive touches positive and negative touches negative and you'll be fine, if you get it the wrong way don't worry, nothing breaks, it just won't turn on.

If you want to solder directly, here's how to do it

That is for soldering RGB though, so everything is exactly the same except the number of wires.

If you want more resources, google "soldering 2 pin led strip" and you should get videos etc.

It's simple and easy to do, good luck!

        • Massive appreciation mate.

  • Assuming I was to run these underneath the top kitchen cabinets, could I run them all in a straight line straight to the power source? What If wanted to run them underneath by bed in a rectangular shape, could I do all that from everything supplied in each kit?

    • -1

Yep, you can cut and rejoin them, it supplies connectors to do so as well. With the kit you can run a rectangle under your bed easily.

  • … I just buy my LED strips from AliExpress :P

    • Same, but for an Australian certified power supply, longer lasting and 5 years warranty, this is a good alternative, especially as the price is about the same as aliexpress once you factor in the power supply.

I've got some RGBW strips and controllers on the way from Aliexpress from the 10% cashback before GST hit, and the connectors from aliexpress are better than these ones, which lock really tight and are hard to undo, but as for the lights, I honestly think these are a better choice for value.

  • Anyone know if these have a switch at all? Or one that is compatible/installable with them? Seems stupid having to plug/unplug the wall socket to turn them on or off each time.
