We’re so confident in our seller’s prices

Yeah, that's why you keep changing fixed price listings to accept offers.

    • Yes it very frustrating!!! If I wanted best offer I would put that in the listing!!!

    • Can you explain this? Surely the sellers would be the ones who choose this? Is Ebay incentivising this somehow?

      • If your item doesn't sell after a week, they change the listing to accept offers.

        • Just set auto decline slightly below asking price, or inflate your sell price and set auto decline/accept where you want it

        • @berger:

That would result in less sales or pissed off buyers.

Once a buyer sees best offer they expect a lower price.

  • This looks different from the previous best price promise. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/386046) My brain isn't working properly today and I cannot tell if this a better or worse deal.

    • You're correct, this is worse! :)

  • +5

how they going to administer this - sending requests to ebay black hole?

  • +2

This seals for me I really have to avoid buying direct with any of those retailers anymore (assuming there is free postage or free click and collect)

  • +1

Looks like it has been changed again for the better

Which items qualify for the eBay Best Price Guarantee?
All brand new, fixed price items or otherwise known as ‘buy it now’ items.

  • What if the price is already cheaper on competitor website, would they price match before we buy? This will be a good option.

    • No as the gift card entices more spending on their platform

  • +2

what happens if you use a ebay discount code.. is it based on original price or after the discount.

    • -1

      Original price

    • Discounted price

  • +14

    toysrus.com.au

    lol… :'(

    • +3

      Kogan about to swoop in

    • +1

Lol like toys r us was ever the cheapest for anything.

      • Looks like they forgot to put Masters hardware, eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au and cellbikes on their list, LOL!

But seriously, why bother with crap promotions like this where things like lists of 'Approved Competitors' are obviously concocted and worse, dynamically managed by pricing algorithms that beat you to a comparison, to prevent the 'offer' being valuable in real terms? ALL consumers are wary of best price guarantees that turn out to be best price claims that turn out to be worse than inhaling noxious gas.

I can just see it now, you're looking for an offer on a valuable appliance, a sale comes up, you see after a purchase that the price is now much cheaper from someone else, but all of a sudden their listing price jacks or disappears faster than you can refresh your page.

Or worse, they refuse to sell it as vendors can, and eBay refuse the 'price guarantee' as the item was withdrawn (by their own algorithm). I wonder how long it will be before vendors who sign up to be in the price guarantee approved competitors list find themselves being obligated to adjust their listings, or have them adjusted by eBay's sales algo?

That said, until the algo has been tweaked/learned how to restrict the losses, this is certain to be good fodder for OzBargainers!

        • Eglobal is on the list

  • Thanks OP. Managed to price match bosch washers from goodguys against HN

    • Did you use a coupon to buy and then price matched ?

      • Yes. Still i haven't got ebay vouchers for gap yet.

        • +1

will be very interested to see if the difference is off the discounted price or the advertised price.

        • +1

          @spk:

What i told difference is from listed price. B'cos discounted price is lower than HN price.

        • @podilamaya:
Did you get the voucher yet?

        • +1

          @Expon:

Yes, I got $164.20 ebay voucher. Making Bosch washing machine $765.14.

          • @podilamaya: how…coz:

Max $150 price difference allowed (also max voucher value).

        • @podilamaya:
So the price they matched was based on the full listing price? that's pretty sweet double dip. Im going to buy an aircon based on that.

        • @podilamaya:
Same here, match good guys with mobileciti got voucher $206 =)

  • Very interested to see if this works with the price jacked sales.

  • +3

Interesting - especially with the crazy Amazon sales that have been happening.
Wonder how this will pan out in reality.

  • +1

Pricematch is on listed price only, pre coupon and other discounts.
Also has to be in stock at time of price check so flash sales will probably be gone before they do their check.

    Not Covered
Any product that is not an Eligible Product.
Approved Competitor’s prices after applicable rebates, free offers, coupons, competitor clearance products and stock liquidations from an Approved Competitor’s website, specific offers based on bundled pricing, or where volume or lot discounts are applied.
Identical products listed by Approved Competitors or sellers in eBay store listings.
An error or misprint on an Approved Competitor’s website.
Only one Eligible Product per eBay buyer per day is permitted under the eBay Best Price Promise.

    • Wonder if this applies to amazon prime free shipping or if no prime, free shipping anyways over $49 as says the difference includes postage costs.

    • +1

Pricematch is on listed price only, pre coupon and other discounts.

Would that apply both ways? If you bought it on ebay with a coupon, they use the pre-coupon price as the price you paid for it?

  • Does this include everything, like Canon photo paper? Need a new source now that Amazon US doesn’t work. I see canon.com.au is listed, but they charge retail price in the first place.

  • +4

So if one OzBargainer spots an item, and we all get in quickly, do we all get to get the pricematch?

  • Whats stopping a person from posting a fake ad for say a tv for 10k thats worth 8k…buys it, claims diff of 2k + $400?
    Am i missing something?

    • +1

Good point. Although reading the T&Cs:
      * "the price difference does not exceed the lesser of $150 or 50% of the Eligible Product’s advertised price (including shipping costs)…" So maximum price difference of $150.
      Also in the T&Cs:
      * "The Claim Limits will be strictly enforced, and any effort or collusion by any buyer or seller to circumvent these terms and conditions, commit fraud or abuse the Best Price Guarantee program will be strictly enforced." So they may be checking these claims thoroughly.

    • Not in the approved list of competitors. So, a site like everything-one-cent.com.au won't work.

Also, you actually need to be willing to commit to purchase the TV at 10K. Then, purchase $2150 worth of good on feeBay. So, you get to use the "overspent" amount on something else. The net gain, if you like, is actually $150 - which again, will need to be used on feeBay.

      • I meant that a person posts the ad for 10k. Buys his own product for the 10k (loss transaction fees). Item sells on goodguys for 8k, claim the diff of 2.4k… but as above replyer said max is 150$

        • +1

Only if it happened on a day where you can list the item without paying final value fee. Otherwise, you are actually worse off. feeBay FVF for casual seller is approx 10% + GST on top of that so ~11% in total. You only get 5% back at most.

Furthermore, you need to list an item worth $3000, which is something that can only be done for older sellers (or sellers which has reached certain volume with decent records). New accounts are restricted to 10 items and no more than $500 in total per month.

One more thing: ATO will be watching you if you list high cost items on feeBay often. Is it worth it?

        • @netsurfer:

Wow. Didn't know about those limits. But I've had a few hundred sales by now

        • @justtoreply: You probably have your eBay account for a while and started selling a few years ago.

New sellers are restricted (in case they try to sell 100 iPhone X's, run away with the money and don't send them).

  • eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au….this site doesn't exist any more.

    • +7

Register the domain, put up a fake ecommerce site with $0.10 Eneloops.

      We all win.

  • Approved Competitor’s

So the ones that keep prices high.

  • wasn't this posted already?

  • What is the effect of using promo code?

Like on binglee ebay a washing machine is for 575$ and on the good guys it is for 649$ which will be 520$ after good guys 20% discount now.

  • +1

This eBay voucher is stand alone? Or can it be used with 5/10% off codes? Doesn't seem that good if you have to pay full price for everything with it

    • From the TsAndCs:

The voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay voucher or offer, nor can it be redeemed for cash.

  • I'm not understanding this at all..

So if I buy an iPhone from Allphones ebay store (which historically have them price jacked high), and Officeworks.com.au which has it cheaper, would I be effectively getting 5% off the Officeworks price?

    • Stuffed if I know, but the way it reads is they beat a price, before codes. This seems to clash with their 'yet another sale code' strategy. So, yes? Maybe?

I hope we get some real world reports soon

    • Yes and no. The price difference + 5% price beat (cap to $150 max) will be provided as a feeBay voucher.

You still have to pay the full price first. It's not really worth exploiting to be honest. The eBay 20% off voucher is more cost effective.

It is just for peace of mind that if you thought you bought the cheapest item on feeBay and it turned out to be incorrect.

  • got my voucher $200 from ebay doing this best price guarantee.

just place an order, hope the order get ship through. finger cross

by the way you can't buy gift card using this voucher from ebay…

    • Just out of interest, how much of the $200 voucher is the 5% price beat?

      • 5% at $ 59.95

price different at $147 total $206 voucher

so that is $200 freebie item from ebay. not bad… :D

        • +1

Rough calculation - probably off by a few dollars here and there:

          Amount
eBay Item Price $1345 initial price paid
          Price Match/Beat Price $1199
          Difference $146 rebate from overpaying
5% Price Beat $60 actual price beat
Total eBay Voucher $206 total rebate

Guessing it is a mobile phone. $60 effective gain. It's really an $60 freebie because you would have normally paid only $1199 for the item. True saving is still 5% (you still paid $1345 for the initial item + the bonus item out of your pocket).

        • +1

          @netsurfer:

not really the mobile phone rrp at good guys and jbhifi and all other store is at 1346. i only paid 1,076.8

so with good guys 20% code i already save a lot around $269, and on top of that i got free $206 voucher to use on other item on ebay :)

so they used price before coupon code to best price guarantee with others it seems??

        • @aan10: Um, the true phone saving (with the 20% voucher) technically is $122.20 - compared it to best price. Plus the $206 voucher is $328.20.

It's quite good. So, price beat on eBay's retail price. I reckon eBay customer support will be busy issuing vouchers.

        • @netsurfer:

T&Cs say it's on the price you paid. Not sure if everyone will have the same luck at aan10

        • @Expon: Yeah, I know. A bit surprised aan10 tried and succeeded.

Anyway, still somewhat depends on using the voucher wisely to get the benefit. It was basically $1076.8 for Galaxy S9 Plus & an eBay item priced at $260.

        • @aan10:
Can I ask how you got a $200 voucher for free? :o

        • @Jumpernot:

By doing this 5% best price guarantee from ebay :)

        • @aan10: wow nice! so they beat the full original price and dont count any coupons.. They will probably fix it lol..

    • Have you received the voucher yet? The customer service said max $150 on live chat when I asked.

      • Have received it and have used it straight away

I believe $150 for price difference and plus 5% guarantee so its more than $150

  • Like to see how this works in real…

  • This is fascinating. Buggered if I know how it will work out. But I'm strapped-in for reading your reports.

  • +1

Bought a $1000 item using the PLATYPUS code and paid $900.

Found item for $800. Got a $240 code.

    • so you can actually but with 10% code from goodguys or binglee and price match each other's online website.

    • Wow thats more than $150 max price difference from their TC. Nice one.

Maybe theres a glitch in their ebay system. Better get those voucher now and use it ASAP before they notice anything wrong =D

    • Lucky! I had a price difference of $310. Tried to argue that the terms don't specify the voucher is $150 max, but only the price difference is. The way I interpret the terms, is the max price difference of $150 + 5% of competitor price. I kept going back and forth via email with multiple eBay reps who didn't really read my email properly and gave me the general "it's in the terms" which I highlighted and said it doesn't read that way. In the end, I'm happy with the $150 voucher as I wasn't expecting it anyway! :) Tomorrow is another day to claim another price guarantee as you can only claim 1 per day and has to be within 48hrs! :D

  • Now we just need a search facility that searches the above websites!
(I guess pricehipster does some - any other suggestions?)

  • Is it OK to match with another eBay seller?

  • Bought 1150 item for 920 at TGG with 20% off code, found it at 986, got a 199.95$ voucher.

    • You mean they compared the price with the price before 20% off?

  • Do we need to buy from any particular ebay seller?
i.e. cant we just choose to buy from one with higher price to maximize difference?

    • I think it depends
The dryer that am looking at is at a higher cost with appliances online.. but when clubbed with TGG sale, that comes out cheaper

    • I think any, the eBay rep said they will match up to 50% of advertised price or $150 but that's clearly wrong with the discounts some people are getting.
I really need to read all the terms probably

      • Its still 150% for the price difference, they r getting more than %150 because of the added 5% difference on top..

  • How long did it take receive a voucher. Applied last night. Haven't heard anything back yet.

    • Had mine send in 4-5 hours

  • So technically Buy GTX 1080 For $800 with 20% ebay discount code. Original listing is $1000. Now after you buy it , ask ebay to 5% price beat it. Show a competitors price at $800..now you get a $200coupon + 5% ($50) for free

I hope they wont fix this..

    • Based on my dealings with multiple eBay staff yesterday, they will only give you a maximum of $150 voucher. But seems like others have slipped through and got more.

      • -1

yeah but its still good..free $150 + 50, they shud be price matching after coupon price, not with coupon. This is so good for us.,..too bad I dont need anything right now that's in the $1000's

        • I tried to argue the +5%, which would have been $79.45 for me, but they wouldn't budge. Still happy with the $150 voucher as I only realised this eBay guarantee after I made the purchase with 20% off. Yes, take advantage of it whilst you still can. The terms and condition wording has been written poorly. The staff aren't really trained on it yet too because it's a new offering, hence we're seeing different people get different offers on OZB.

  • get this in before it gets fixed and ebay starts to realize..

  • Has anyone had any luck claiming this twice? The T&Cs state one price promise per day. Can I purchase two items today and clainm one today and the seocnd tomorrow?

    • I received my 2nd claim today. I bought my items on separate days. I think as long as you claim one today and one tomorrow it should be fine. The terms says only 1 claim per day on 1 product per account.

  • Tried to lodge a 2nd claim today on an item that had a price difference of more than $150. They rejected on the basis that it is only for items that had a price difference of $150 or less.

    • I'd try it again with a different eBay rep. That's not right at all.

      • Not 100% sure, but I think they reworded the T&Cs. Clearly says not eligible when price difference is more than $150

  • What happens if the same store is selling for more on ebay take this for example

    $16 m.2 heatsink ple website
    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/630813/EK-M2-NVMe-Heatsink--…

$27 m.2 heatsink ple ebay account
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EK-M-2-NVMe-Heatsink-Black-38300…

Would i get money back on this if i bought it on ebay?

    • With the shipping added seems $2 difference

  • I just did a second claim and was issued a vouchr for $150. THe voucher should have been $198 however the rep wouldn't budge past 150. I do not agree that the t&c's have a limit of 150 however the t&c's also state the difference is based on the price paid rather than the lising price.

    • The eBay rep said to me it's up to $150 or 50% percent of the advertised price on eBay.
I found an item that was over that but asked before I purchased the eBay price was still higher.
