eBay Best Price Promise - 110% Refund of Price Difference from 130 Retailers (Coupon), 48 Hour Claim Time for Certain Items

1490

Hi All, I spotted this and think it's had an update from this post as well as a wording change.

Pretty sure it previously just price matched but is now offering 110% of the difference.

FAQ

How does eBay reimburse me if a lower-priced, identical item is found on an approved competitor’s website?
eBay will issue a coupon for the qualifying purchase if eBay’s customer service agent can confirm the difference in prices. Upon confirmation, they will issue a coupon for 110% of the difference (including shipping) which can be used towards your next eBay purchase. Coupons will expire within 90 days. eBay reserves the right to cancel them in the event that a purchase is cancelled or returned. eBay also reserves the right to deny claims in the event of buyer abuse/fraud and seller abuse/fraud.

What do you mean by 110% of the difference?
110% of the difference means eBay will issue a coupon for the difference in price plus an additional 10% of the price difference. For example if you buy an item on eBay for $100 but then find it on an Approved Competitor’s website for $90, you will get a coupon for $11. This is the difference in price ($100 - $90 = $10) plus 10% of the difference ($10 x 10% = $1)..

Which competitors does the eBay Best Price Promise apply to?
The Best Price Promise covers 130 of Australia’s top retailers. See details of Approved Competitors below.

Is this for Australian resident buyers only?
Yes. Buyers can participate in the eBay Best Price Promise if they are a resident of Australia, as long as the item is purchased on ebay.com.au and it is shipped to an Australian address.

What happens if an item is returned?
In the event an item is returned, the buyer will be refunded the purchase price minus the refunded amount subject to this offer.

    This'll teach the price jackers!

    • +5

      Are you referring to TGG???

Like the recent advertised 20% off Kitchenaid - which brings the price to 20 cents less than any other store online (Myers etc)

      Like the cold brew coffee machine - 20% of - $159.00 - Myers $159.20

Shop at TGG - bring your own Vaseline!

    • +3

Maybe not. From what I get on the page, it's only for products that display the Best Price Promise badge.

      • +19

It's a joke. Just bought something brand new from a big name place on Ebay a couple of days ago. Found the exact item on one of their approved competitors for a cheaper price and….

"We would have loved to honour the price difference but I found that the above item does not bear/displays the Best Price Promise badge; so it is not an eligible item to claim "Best price Guarantee"."…..waste of time.

        • Exactly!

See my post replied to @chanwilson01 for similar stories.

    • It’s funny that price jackers like sydneytec aren’t on the list.

  • +3

I saw that a couple weeks back but you need to have "Best Price Promise" badge on the item page, there's not search filter option and so far I haven't seen an item with that badge?? Can anyone find them???

    • +2

Agreed!! This is only a marketing ploy, haven’t seen the badge on anything yet.

    • +5

Perhaps we should start a list :)

      I'll start with Bose QC35ii $370 https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Bose-QuietComfort-35-II-Black-Over…

Not saying it's a good price - just that it has the badge

    • +8

There is a page that shows products with the badge. But still, this is a joke, I tried to price match an item:

[on TGG eBay (higher price) vs on Bing Lee eBay (lower price)]
service rep: we do not price match an item between eBay sellers, ok fine.

2nd attempt [on TGG eBay (higher price) vs on Bing Lee eBay (lower price)]
service rep: I can price match, instead, gave me he TGG 20% off coupon which I already knew

[on TGG eBay (higher price) vs officeworks.com.au (lower price)]
service rep: I am sorry I do not recognize officeworks.com.au. ok so what 'do' you recognize then lol

[on TGG eBay (higher price) vs harveynorman.com.au (lower price)]
service rep: I am sorry but we only price match eBay items that's got the badge

      I smell bullshit.

Interestingly, they tried to ring me after I left the convo (online chat) though I didn't bother answering.

Obligatory comment "something something Amazon something something prime"

  • This should be pinned somewhere so it's not forgotten.

  • Interesting strategy

    • Let's see if it plays off.

  • +1

I don't know that it has really changed. It's still specific products only:

    "Eligible products
We can price beat on any product that displays this Best Price Promise badge
As well as any product featured in Deals "

It could have changed.. IF they are throwing that logo on lots more items. No idea if they are though.

    • +1

The difference is that they previously just price matched - now they price match and give you 10% of the difference….Surely that's quite a significant change?

      • I remember looking through the items available last time. It was a joke. 110% on stuff you wouldn't buy isn't worth anything. Possible exception I think a dyson cordless was on there.

        • +1

I think your missing the point - say Amazon has a sale on QC35ii's this afternoon for $299 - I can turn around and buy these for $370 from eBay with the best price badge and effectively get them for $291.90 after getting the difference back plus 10%… Who knows it may even work with the 5% off codes too?

        • +2

@urbancartel: but they probably have a reason to say no as well. Honesty is not high on their list…

Besides; two times zero still = zero

        • @plague69:

Exactly, look at @beOson comment above

        • +1

          @urbancartel:

I'd just buy the cheaper one and call it a day. Ebay are not in the business of handing out money. Too many hoops to jump through and they just wear you down.

  • +6

    Too little, too late!

    • Just what I was thinking as well!

    • Agree.

Just bought a SD drive from computer alliance and yet still not receive the package but find out a price drop.

  • +2

CYA EBAY. Enjoy your 20% fees that no one will pay anymore.

    HELLO AMAZON

    • Enjoy your 20% fees

No one pays 20% in fees.

    • +2

      It's about 13% Inc. PayPal.

Amazon isn't free, it's near parallel to eBay's fees.

      • -1

It's ~ 15% inc ebay and PayPal fees

I know that because I sold around $10k items a few months ago and total fees were $1500.

        • I sell roughly $130,000/year perhaps why

        • @XioamiGuy: yeaahhhhh you don't sell enough. Our average eBay & PayPal fee's are 6.5%

        • @Calmago:
Heavily depends on what you sell.

Assuming you do $150k a month:
          1.1% PayPal
4.8% eBay (assuming only sell low margin computer and electronics)
          Ref: https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/ebay-for-business/new-look-…

5.9%+GST (6.49%) is achievable. But with margin already low, you have to look at it from percent of profit. At the end of the day you might make less than someone on a higher percentage doing less sales.

eBay is not dumb, there are tries for a reason. If you're low, it's because they let you haha.

      • @xioamiGuy, what's your store? Do you sell Xiaomi products?

  • No Futu online :)

  • "Yawn"… slightly more creative than "20%" off marketing spin, but far from good.

  • +3

    toysrus.com.au , i guess eBay didn’t get the memo

  • Also known as "We'll beat any price by 1% "

** well, actually we'll change you the full price and send you a coupon for the difference so you'll have to make another purchase with us within 90 days
    ** significant limitations apply **
    ** significant effort involved **
** subject to "eBay’s customer service agent can confirm the difference in prices"

  • Will they price match if price before 20% discount is higher? Or is the price inc. all applicable discounts?

    • No, they will tell you that you can use the 20% discount code to get the price down & to match other competitors. I've had 4 attempts (see my post replied to @chanwilson01) and one of the service reps (via online chat) even said yes they'll match and then told / gave me the TGG 20% discount code which we already knew about.

      • Have you tried where price - 20% discount is still higher than elsewhere? Will they refund the difference between the price you end up paying and lower price?

        • I think if there's no badge then they won't do it. This is the conclusion after having four attempt with four different reps. I Wouldn't risk..

  • If the seller selling grey import goods, the price definitely cheaper than local seller with local warranty.

  • So you need to spend more and then spend some more on ebay and justify that spending by saying that you saved

  • What happens if you use an eBay coupon? Will it be based off the original price our discounted price? How about if the competitor has member only pricing, such a kathmandu? Members get big discounts bit their eBay site does not give member pricing. Could you price beat kathmandu member pricing if you are a member?

  • So essentially ebay is telling their retailers to compete against themselves on ebay vs their own business.

    Big woop

    • Nah not true - i've found plenty of items sold by sellers who aren't listed in the 130

  • Love the fact they included amazon.com.au

    LoL, good luck ebay!

  • So does this (profanity) over the "approved competitors" which include great local businesses like addictedtoaudio ?

  • This is great but call me lazy because I can't be
