Haven't really looked into it personally, just going by opinion on /r/headphones on Reddit. They seem to have pivoted from the M50x to the M40x as a budget recommendation as the sound quality is virtually the same (minus the "boomy" bass).
Great timing, just got the notification that the Zoom G5N was back in stock yesterday and was going to pull the trigger today anyway. Another $57 dollars off the top of what was a great price makes me a happy camper.
Decent price for the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x (cheaper than the ones listed on Staticice anyway), I believe they're basically the same as the M50x but the bass is toned down a little.
