I suppose its plausible as stamps are not barcoded however it could be quite pointless given postage stamps have such a low value.
Yeah pointless selling a sheet for $80 …. …. ….
Haha
I cant see why counterfeit would not be around, possibly not worth it unless you had either an outlet or had high cost postage requirements.
A different 'hobby' that some people have is removing the franking marks from postage stamps. They use various cleaning agents like bleach and re-sell them to 'collectors' using sites like ebay or gumtree. It is crazy time consuming and your $/hr rate would be quite low but some people find it quite lucrative. It is illegal to sell these cleaned stamps for postage use, but not for collectors.
Buying bulk used/franked stamps to clean is not risk free, if you buy from someone who has already sorted the easy to clean stamps, you will find it particularly labor intensive (franked with non-removable/staining ink) or a high % of damaged or low value stamps.
Typically they sell for about 60-80% face value, and come with free postage.
As they say, buyer beware.
Id like to see Auspost require the use of a better franking ink to render the stamps unable to be cleaned.
Am I drawing attention to an issue that results in Auspost losing $, that could be easily remedied for possibly no extra cost just by changing their ink, yes.
I have no connection with the ebay seller AFAIK.
Isn't there a collectors market for franked stamps and postage?
Wow. I haven’t posted a letter in years. Was just curious. Great info though!
They already have new method for preventing people from reusing stamps. New stamps now have little chad cutouts. Not entirely foolproof, however

I would like to see them actually frank the stamps as most of the time I receive mail without franking as it's missed or missing.

Australia Post are utterly incompetent, nothing will change.
If you post via a red street posting box i'm not sure how they coupd get franked. Barcoding prepaid letters however prevents reuse.

They don't frank them at the post office. Are you suggesting that mail is not checked to see if postage has been paid if posted in a box?
Can these be returned to the post office for full refund?
Serious question: are there such thing as counterfeit stamps?
