LG Renoir Mobile Phone $99, Nokia E63 $109, on Virgin Prepaid from DSE, Samsung B3310 on Optus $9

310

The LG Renoir were originally $299 from Virgin, but have since been discontinued. Regardless, they remain a pretty strong unit with strong specs, especially for the price that they are now at.
8MP, GPS, WLAN

The Nokia E63 is also available on Virgin for $109 from Dick Smith, they are available elsewhere for $129, if you missed the $99 special from Optus, or if you don't feel like buying online.

The Samsung B3310 on Optus is $9 but I don't think there's stock anywhere, feel free to check for yourself for your own area.

  • it seems like a decent phone -LG renoir.- it has proprietry OS

optus have the motorola backflip for $129 (from memory) which is upgradable to android 2.1 .

    hmm

    8mp camera(LG) Vs 5mp camera (motorola)

    very similar size screen.

tough call if you want extra from a phone.

LG if you just want a phone and camera in one

  • I like the specs of the Renoir, but not much stock in Vic

I got the Renoir for $180 last year so its a plus from me. Its a pretty good phone, IMO, if you don't want anything too complicated. The camera is excellent, though the touch screen isn't as high quality as Apple ones, from comparison with my iTouch.

      probs resistive touchscreen

    • I have a Renoir and it's a very well spec'ed phone - excellent camera as mentioned and with pretty good proprietary software. Only additional software you can install are Java apps, but with GPS and a reasonable data plan it can be good for using Google Maps etc.

  • Anyone know if you can get this on three/unlocked? Been looking for a cheap 3g phone for my sis for a while, with no luck.

She has been through 3 phones in the last year: lost one, one was stolen and her hubby put the last one through the wash - but she's still on a 24 month contract with 3, so needs a 3g phone to continue!

  • Are these locked ? / Easy to unlock if so ?

    • To unlock these Virgin Prepaid, you only need to top-up to $80 then call the customer service. Here is the link to the info: http://virginmobile.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/168…. Or else, you might try your luck at some shops in china town. They might be able to do it for $30 - $40.

Still, top-up 80 dollars is quite easy to do and you get to use that amount of credits also.

  • Any Download program getting for someone else ALREADY on another carrier plan

My gf has had a Renoir for about two years, great phone and very reliable. Batt needed to be replaced after a year but they're pretty cheap.

  • bugger, the $9 phone would have been great for the kids. Any one know if any stores have stock left?

    • Its been in this price for more than a week. I nearly called all the stores in Sydney but no stock.

      • doh! Oh well I guess that's why they are such good finds when these kinds of things turn up.

    • I saw that price for the phone like a month ago from DSE and was going to post here, but said it was out of stock in all states (unless I missed some) so I didnt.

      • I just got a Renoir from Glen Waverly and they still have a few more in stock.

        • sorry i meant the $9 SamsungB3310 phone.
Im tempting to get the Renoir, but I think im gona wait for a cheap slideout qwerty phone.

  • Comment re locking:

I bought one of these intending to use it with a TPG PAYG sim, hoping that since both are on Optus network, it would be fine. But the Renoir is locked to Virgin specifically, and needs to be unlocked to use a different optus-network sim.

  • Anyone know of free unlock programme for this phone ?

  • It appears there down to a few left, which tend to be "returned" items.. so looks like i lucked out this time!
