Seems like they've jacked the deal by $5 per month from last time plus dropped the data on the higher plans..

true, though at least now with 20% off via referral, everyone can signup at the same effective student discount rate of $36 for the 30GB plan

at one stage they ran a $30 15gb promo and then when that ended they ran a double data promo. I signed up for the $30 for 15gb and then inquired about double data when that promo launched and they gave it to me with out adjusting my bill. 30gb for $30 a month :)

      • excellent :)

  • +1

Yeah Its been 15GB of data for $45 for quite a while now as my partner is on that plan and I thought it was reasonable as Im out of contract next month paying $65 for 7GB and are either planning to get a new mobile like the S8 on a plan around the $49 mark or just keep my dying S7 and go sim only

    • they only changed it about a month ago

    • I was in a similar pickle, I was on 7GB for my s7 edge at virgin mobile. My s7's battery was dying and I didn't want to get a new phone cuz it's quite a nice phone BUT luckily the charging port stopped working AND the water sensor had not been activated so on the very last day of the warranty period I took it in and they replaced it with a replacement (? refurbished) device :D

Now trying to decide if I want to go on the optus $40.50 for 30GB plan or the Telstra $49 for 25GB plan..

    • Ah we got the same S7 plan! It's funny how my phone still works well

  • It was $40 for that plan which also included Optus sport .

Deal gone up $5 and lost Optus sport.

    I’m an existing customer on $40 15gb , don’t think I’ll change

    • Sorry optus sport is still free should I add that to the description ?

    • -4

Agreed, optus are losing control of their ship. Would not call this a deal.

  • Where are the good mobile plans that include phones?

    • +4

      k …

  • Once Virgin mobile is eliminated completely, they can jack up the prices even more.

They just have to be slightly cheaper than Telstra, and the money will flow like honey

Singapore thanks you for your contribution

    • Not true. If I was looking for a deal and Optus were slightly cheaper than Telstra on a similar/like-for-like deal, there'd be no incentive to go with Optus. I'd rather pay the little extra for Telstra's coverage.

So they decide to be inline with vodafone on data after grabbing alot of Marketshare.

  • +2

Just need to correct an error - you've described Optus Sport as a "perk"

    buffering

    • ha ha it's actually a fantastic service normally for watching the EPL. The best sports streaming service I have used.

  • Would be good if the sim could be put into modem and used that way ..

    • It can. But they have had $70 for 200GB deals recently so I don't know if this is good value.

  • Any other competitive plans for more data at good value?
    'perks' are irrelevant.

Looks a good deal to me. Optus have the best coverage in VIC.

  • Anyone knows how long it takes for the double data to reflect? My deal went active on Thursday last week and still showing 15gb. The support staff was clueless saying it shows on the system that it's 30gb but on my end it's showing only 15gb.

    • +1

receive double the standard data inclusion from your second bill

    • +1

the 30gb will kick in 2nd bill and I confirmed with the rep today the extra 15gb will actually run for 24 months.

    • So did anyone get their double data auto added from the second bill? I've paid my second bill and 2 days later still no double data.

  • I like the Optus plans but their overseas travel costs are quite high compared to the Vodafone $5 a day thing. One point to note though is that the current crop of new Vodafone plans seems to be following the Optus lead and the generous data those Vodafone plans have is for Australia only and so if you sign up for the newer V Plans and travel overseas, the $5 a day will only let you make calls etc with no issues. Data is an additional $10 per GB.

I was about to pull the trigger on the new V Plan last night when I realised. As a frequent OS traveller I decided that my 'paltry' 18gb a month for $45 plan was still good enough for me.

    • I went into a Vodafone store today to clarify the 'Data in Oz' business and apparently I have full access to my data when I am overseas as long as I pay the $5 Vodafone red per day charge.

As the previous expiry date on the plans was extended from 10 July to about 24 July, I think I'll pull the trigger and get a new 12 month plan with the higher charges (and 8000 QFF points).

  • Glad I got the $30 for 17GB last year.

  • Where are the good plans inclusive of mobile phones?

    • +1

The major telcos started to pull away from ‘good’ mobile phone deals about 3 odd years ago. I used to get a great corporate Vodafone deal where I would get $900 credit towards my next mobile phone with a 24 month plan etc.

You will now tend to find that the 24 month mobile plans are really just the equivalent of an interest free loan for the phone that is paid over the life of your plan. Really no point unless you are hard on cash.

I now prefer to purchase my phone outright and claim it when I fly overseas and also depreciate on my tax bill. That combined with a 12 month sim only plan is how I have been operating the last few years.

  • This deal isnt expired, its still on. Ends on the 30/07/18.

  • Telstra's 25GB BYO plan for $49/month is cheaper (if you include the factor of the $200 gift voucher, plus 'generally' better coverage/faster available 4G speeds)

    • Minus the zero rated music streaming on Optus
