Corporate saves you around another $4-5k apparently

    • +2

Surely you have been taking under the counter cash payments from clients, don’t this, buy a Bentley!

    • are you also handwashing your BMW? :)

    • Not A Bank

Is it a high yield investment?

      • Not quite…$12,100 short.

Not a fast car, Suit OP username just fine.

    • +4

      the 330i's aren't exactly slow either, 0-100 in 5.8s.

        • @solidussnake Maybe that is in your world for the price that is quick. If you compare it to say a Corolla thats quick. Anything sub 6.

        • @Dedbny: it can also stay on the road whilst going fast.

        • +20

We in Sydney usually compare cars 0-40 or 0-50 performance because that's how fast we can drive our cars with all the congestions and cameras… :P

        • I have a Subaru forester xt that is apparently 7.2 seconds and it burns most normal cars on the road.

        • It's very much faster than my Suzuki swift….. I think

        • @Niwlat: we have so many roads in melbourne now that are 50km and more ares becoming 40km that cars don’t even get to top gear ….

      • with melbourne traffic it’s more than fast enough and traffic will only get more congested not less. my old bmw series 3 is about 8 secs form 0-100 plant you fast for melbourne traffic and will go,faster than the legal speed limit on the open road all day.

designed in the country with the autobahn not our more restrictive road network ….

Nice car til you get your first servicing bill

    • First three service are free with eligible Corp employees

      • +8

Can be 3, 4, 5 years for free with corporate…..otherwise you can prepay 5 years for about $1800. Cheaper than a standard car ;)

    • +10

You can prepay 5 years for $1495 inc GST for a 3 series. That's $299 a year including genuine parts and labour. Cheap!

      • For condition based servicing? No thank you. I'd rather take it to a local mechanic who will actually do quaint things like change the oil every time.

    • +8

What you got to say about that Chumlee???

      • About what?

        • all the comments above proving you wrong lol

        • +1

@boostpak: i seriously doubt the prepaid servicing includes everything that needs to be done in the first 5 years. Seems way to cheap. Does it just cover the basics such as oil and associated labour on these specified items

BMW know how to sell cars. With all their options and service schemes. Buyers don't have a chance. They do offer a good customer service experience. Just say no to the aftermarket accessories sales girl. You'll be gouged badly. No to tinting, interior and exterior protection, extended warranty, & extended servicing.

Tell me one dealer without one of this twats in them…

      • +7

They all have them yes. I think its just worth sitting down with them and flirting with them for another 30mins and then just saying no.

        https://youtu.be/fCqN_KKNsQQ

    • It sounds like they’re back to their old ways.

      • +1

At least we know they are well tested….

  • @ment I have not read any further follow up on this Monkeygate storey that confirms Daimler and BMW knowledge of this specific testing method. Certainly VW have proven non ethics when it comes to emissions and its probably steeped in its history. The 3 did fund the research company, but not sure whether it's proven yet that they knew about the actual testing methods. Time will tell. Would there be any fines or the like, suspect not as it was just a method that research company used as a test method.

Not sure what you were trying to say with the link?

    • do consumers actually care about emissions or mileage and costs ?

there is a market for ROMs for engine management units that by pass emissions and boost performance and mileage, some are just even just software reflashes …..

even restrictors to on intakes and exhausts to meet sound levels are removed by some people after they have the car or motorbike to increase mileage and performance ….

vegans and vegeratarians make conscious decisions and will pay more to not heat meat …..not sure how many motorists are as committed and will pay more for lower emissions and lower mileage …

      • Agree with your message, but man I had to re-read some of those sentences to figure out what you meant. Bloody autocorrect is a killer.

      • +4

@garage sale The issue is that the carmaker has knowingly made a cheat system to pass a test. Those cars now don't meet the claimed mileage or emissions tests and the cars resale value is now affected. All because VW wanted to be No1. It's more that the consumer loses trust in the brand. I know I wont go near a VW product, but for other reasons as well.

        • They compared a big block competitor diesel car vs a smaller VW engine WITH the cheat device running… Trying to prove that their diesel engines are safe for use.

I honestly don't know what they were trying to prove

        • @krisspy:

Given you haven't link to the ad we have no idea what you are trying to get across but Volkswagen are the cleanest vehicles on the road, all the other manufacturers also cheated and they did it with vehicles that are many times worse than Volkswagen.

“For Euro 5 vehicles, the five worst performing companies were (in order of the highest emissions): Renault (including Dacia); Land Rover, Hyundai, Opel/Vauxhall (including Chevrolet) and Nissan. The best performing Euro 5 cars were made by (in order of lowest emissions first): Seat, Honda, BMW (including Mini), Ford and Peugeot. For current Euro 6 cars a different pattern emerges. The worst performers are: Fiat (including Alfa Romeo + Suzuki (to whom Fiat supply engines); Renault (including Nissan, Dacia and Infiniti); Opel/Vauxhall; Hyundai; and Mercedes. Somewhat counter intuitively the company producing the cleanest Euro 6 cars is VW Group with VW cars the cleanest followed by Seat, Skoda and Audi; BMW (including Mini) and Mazda.”

      • I think in Europe it's a big thing, since they pay taxes based on their cars emissions.

What’s the bargain, etc? This is OzBargain.

  • +3

I would prefer mercedes-benz c200 AMG sport. Mercedes offers similar discount.

    • Last time I looked at a merc they wouldn’t offer any discounts. The base c200 is around $67k driveaway, although I do recall the sports going for a similiar price to the base for a while.

      • Yep less discount now that they're popular again. A and CLA in particular are selling like hotcakes and these platforms didn't even exist 5+ years ago.

      • They a C200 special edition for 60K drive away 1-2 months ago. Can't remember the specifics but basically the base model with some extras.
There is a new model coming soon.

  • Ia this the legendary investment car?

  • How do I price match this?

    • +1

      By ringing your local officeworks.

  • I am considering the 320i - 2 questions: 1) is 330i much better and worth the price? just looking for a family car; 2) i know that the 2019 3 series will get a new look, is it waiting for that one?

    • Personally I'm waiting on the G20 (2019 model)

      • suspect it'd be at least $10k more without the added features? it probably look like the 5 series from what i am reading online

        • It'll be a little more yes but the new model is doing away with the standard trim be and making the M Sport kit a standard feature. I've been speaking to my local dealer who tells me it will be similar value to the current deals once released.

  • Thanks Where's_that_cake - could you elaborate a bit more on when you say "it will be similar value to the current deals once released"? Are you saying it'd be around $63,400 RRP with M sport kit? Assume you can bargain down a bit maybe $60k driveaway?

    • I suspect it will be around $65k, it won't be as good as price but you'll be getting newer technology and this model will lose a lot of resale value once it has been superceded whereas the newer model shall not.

  • Family member got the 320i M-sport package for $50,000's from Sylvania Waters a few years back. So I would haggle hard.

I'd say for 330i buyers, ask yourselves why buy would you buy this over an Audi S3 sedan? With only a smaller reduction in boot space (75L or so), you're getting a faster car, handles better and grips better in the wet for $5000 off RRP? Are you really going to benefit from the longer leg room in rear?

If power is not your thing, get the 320i, which I would try to haggle hard to low $50,000.

Furthermore, do you need the 19 inch wheels and M-sport package? It will come with sportier tyres that will generate more road noise than the 18's with normal city econo tyres, that will last longer.

    • A few years ago? The rrp of the 320 was about 3-4K less and they have added more features since.
