You connect it to the Dock, via USB.

        • +6

You can use to Dock to connect the Nintendo Switch to your TV/Monitor and also charge the device.

        • +21

          @StoneSin: "hand-held"

Yep, I see your issue, you think the Switch is a hand-held. It's a hybrid, it is both a home console and a portable.

        • @BradleyDS2:

To be fair, i own a switch and to me it is 100% a handheld and 0% a home console. In 8 months my dock has never been used

I actually considered selling the dock on eBay

I'm the only gamer in my house though, so no need to hook it up for multiplayer

        • @StoneSin:

Does 1080p 60fps for most games docked, or 720p for handheld mode.

Depending on the game depends on what is used. I play Mario Kart on the big screen with controllers with other people.

Or I intend to play Smash Bros solo on handheld.

        • @StoneSin:

          Are you leading the race?

      • +27

        Don't feed the trolls.

        • +11

          @StoneSin:
I can see you have your finger on the pulse of contemporary gaming.
Can you recommend a console with superior features and gameplay to help me decide which is the best?

        • +25

@StoneSin: yeah, I always take my $400 pc on the train to play games, then plug it into the big screen tv when I get home to keep on playing from where I left off.
          Best is totally subjective.

        • +10

@StoneSin: It's funny because most PC enthusiasts I know and have seen on forums consider the Switch to be the best console to complement PC gaming. You're just an "(Mod Edited: Personal Attack)" that would rather jam their own preferences down others throats.

        • @Jayden16: If it was made by Samsung, I'm sure he'd give it 2 thumbs up

        • -4

@Strand0410: Samsung make some shit stuff. But usually that doesn't stick around in Korea.

        • +3

@StoneSin: It's hard to understand other people when life sucks.

        • -1

@Diji1: Why does that make it hard?

        • @Jayden16: Heh, Switch is definitely the best console to complement PC gaming for me with its own set of exclusives and being a great portable machine on its own.

My PC paired with a 27" 144hz monitor is an absolute joy to use but my experience with Nintendo Switch has been nothing less than fantastic

        • Guys guys guys calm down this guy has a brilliant mind okay? His full on wise knowledge is perfect to generate billions of dollar because his opinion represents the whole universe okay?

        • +1

          @StoneSin: So many negs lol.

        • -1

          @TheOneWhoKnocks: Just means I'm right. :)

      • Actually via wireless connection. There's no need to connect it directly to the dock, other than for charging.

        • My comment was in regards to Wired Controller.

        • @RichardL:

          Right, gotcha.

  • +2

    whats an eshop card?

  • +2

    Normal price for Pro Controller.

    • +2

You beat me to it. Got it for $59 on Amazon with the new customer promo code.

  • +6

Looks like Big W will have the cheapest Mario Tennis Aces on release

    • +4

They're usually either the cheapest or close.

It's ridiculous how much cheaper they are than the eShop.

      • +3

I really want to buy digital to not have to swap out games, but the prices are so much more expensive! :(

        • +1

If you buy eshop cards at 15% off, using gift cards at 7% off and take into account the increase in gold coins it's pretty close (except the cost of storage, and the lack of resale)

Ie. Mario tennis $61.20 physical and would be $59.24 using all the discounts for digital.

And that's ignoring that Mario tennis has a deal for double gold coins.

        • @kulprit: Where do you get the 7% off giftcards from? Tempted to do this – considering digital over physical for Aces.

        • +2

          @kulprit:

That resale value though. Its nice finishing a game at a net cost of around $10

I used to hoard games. I've still got the backlog but finishing and selling new ones is so much better than hoarding

        • +1

With my 3DS I went digital for max portability, but honestly Nintendo make it too much of a headf*** when you want even the slightest bit of flexibility. Owning two 3DS's… one becomes a paperweight cos your account is tied to one console at a time (with a maximum of 5 transfers IIRC).

So yeah, back to owning cartridges for me. As @justtoreply said, just finish and sell the games. As a bonus side effect, it prevents Steam hoard syndrome.

        • +2

@kulprit: The resale is the big kicker though that stops me from getting the AAA games digitally. These games hold value. I bought XenoBlades for $79, finished it and recently sold it for $64, to, get this, EB games…. lol

  • +3

Minecraft for $32 is a good deal too.

Hopefully Australia eShop will get a sale as well. Could line up nicely with the 10% of eshop cards if it ends the same time as the US one.
Even better since you get 5% back in coins as well.

    • Do you mind explaining how the coins work? And if I have any physical game cartridges, I heard there's a way to register them for coins. Does that mean I can't share the cartridge with friends (or sell it) after I register it?

      Thanks!

      • You can still sell or share the cartridge once you register it. It just means that someone else won't be able to claim the points.

You can redeem the points on the eShop when checking out.
The exchange rate is 1 Gold Point = $.01 discount

      • To add to mobbahobba’s reponse, the physical redeem rate is only 1% vs the 5% for digital sales. That said the physical prices are usually better which will offset that.

  • sucks that octopath is released on 13th of July

    • +2

Why? Buy credit in anticipation if you want it digitally?

  • Labo Robot for $99
    Labo Kit for $79
    Customisation set for $14.

    Might try Labo for $79.

  • Hmm Mario tennis for $62

I wonder if I can price match to EB… Already pre ordered and really close to level 3 rewards…

    • EB will let you price match, but depending on the store/employee you may not get the pre-order bonus

      • In the past I've price matched as I pick up the pre-order, so I don't see how they can refuse you the bonus. (assuming you've only paid deposit, and not in full)

        • +1

It usually depends on the pre-order bonus and the price. If you had to pay extra for the pre-order bonus, then they will only price match for the game without the preorder bonus.

        • @RichardL: Yeah always depends on the person. I have my go to guy for my Local EB and he always gives me the bonuses, and even price matches for me without me even asking now. Just form friendships with someone and they will look after you. I've always found treating people well nets good results in such matters.

  • Are the big Toy Sales after EOFYS? Wondering if worth waiting for that on some items…

    • +2

      This is that sale

      • Oh haha, cheers.

  • Anyway to download the catalogue as a PDF?

    • it'll probably appear on lasoo

or you can print this to pdf

  • Might buy Tennis and a Pro Controller. Does Big W still work out the cheapest if you include shipping?

    • Amazon will mostly likely match on launch so could get both and use AMAZON20 to get it for cheaper.

    • The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is cheaper on Amazon AU (~$59), if you add a $4 item and use the code "AMAZON20".

Note "AMAZON20" is for new user only and require a minimum spend of $79 but you can just make a new account

  • Also eb have a couple 1/2 price games, and also this for $47

    https://ebgames.com.au/nintendo-switch-234834-Nintendo-Switc…

Not sure how it compares to the legit pro controller though.

    • +1

Honestly, I would pay a bit extra and get the Genuine Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

You can get the Nintendo Pro Controller on Amazon AU fo ~$59, if you make a new account, add a $4 item, and use the coupon code "AMAZON20".

  • The Switch is a very nifty gaming unit console/hand held hybrid. I use it more as a hand held device, funnily enough I tend to rest the screen on the couch while using the pro controller (as opposed to having the joycons in the joycon grip OR the joycons connected to the screen itself). I rarely connect it to the tv or use the dock itself (mostly if I have to charge the joycons is when the dock gets used). I've purchased a few of the Nintendo games (Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country etc), yet I get more mileage out of the console playing games I've already got on xbox/ps4/pc (eg: Rocket League). I don't use the system every single day, but I feel I have got (and continue to get( my money's worth.

Another Big W toysale :), some very good bargains to be had especially in the video game category. Also it might be worth checking out your local store to see which games they MIGHT be clearing out at cheap prices (well having googled a few of the titles I swooped on eg: Far Cry Primal and Mafia III - they're about the same price as JB… but still, getting them that cheap new and SEALED having never been cracked open to remove the disc…. is great for me lol). A few of the stores I went to had older titles like WWE 2K (16-17), NBA 2K (16-17), Fifa 15-16-17 at $10-$20. And other titles like X COM 2.

  • Mario Tennis Aces come to papa

  • Hey guys Im totally new to nintendo. Ive seen it on catch of the day this morn for 398…is that a good deal or should i wait?
Also do they come with any preloaded games or everything has to be bought?
Games themselfes seem a bit on the expensive side compared to pc…I was looking to get Wolfenstein2 and some games for the kids that involve movement as I dont want them to be on the couch too much..Thanks in advance..
    Th

    • If you're planning to get a Nintendo Switch, refer to this deal from Amazon AU. They don't come preloaded with games, but there are some free titles in the Nintendo eShop that you can download (ie. Pokemon Quest, Fortnite, etc.). Regarding games, they are on the expensive side, but if you shop around and keep an eye out on OzBargain, you can pick up some of them for a discounted price.

      • Thx..
        Comes down on 360 …

    • No preloaded games. Best is currently Amazon (search here on ozbargain)

  • P.S.I was about to get Ps4 pro but console that gets you to move arroung seems apealling to me..

    • +1

  • Thank you so much OP : )

Just went to my nearest EB Games store and did the price match !

Got the Pro Controller for $79. The whole transaction was buttery smooth and the staff there was very friendly. Btw, I purchased some gift card thru my RACQ portal so that means a further 7% off !

Now I can enjoy the $15.60 Overcooked that I just bought this afternoon!

    • They price matched before the sale ? I guess I don't see why not but didn't think they would .

      • You could also price match AMAZONAU, they have it for $74.99.

        *For Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

  • +1

Its available to buy online now!!

  • Anyone know if Mario tennis aces is available today?

    • Should be tomorrow but could get lucky and someone might sell it to you today

  • Can you buy the eShop card with Woolies gift cards?

    • Yeah you can, just did it this morning

  • +1

Hi guys, just a dumb question: Can you use the discounted Wish e-gift cards from cash rewards in combination with staff discount to get like a ~10% discount?

    • +1

I tried scanning a Woolies discount and it didn't work but the gift cards work!

  • +1

I don't get it, the Switch and Pro controller are the normal prices.

  • EB store won't price match pre order until the game actually releases
