  • Thank you! Do you know if I can use EB games gift card to buy Nintendo eShop cards?

  • Wish we could use these for other countries too.

    • You can

      • We can enter in aus eshop codes to buy things from the jap eshop? How will conversion work?

Time to get NBA 2K18 this weekend then.

    • +1

      exactly what I was thinking!

      • Do you know how much it will be digitally? Will digital load faster?

        • +2

I dont know at the moment, I tried searching online but couldnt see. Going to check it out on my actual switch tonight.

JB has it for $79, EB has it for $99. Hoping for the cheaper option but if we get 15% off and pay $85 I wouldn't complain too much to get it a month earlier.

As for loading times - not sure on that either, I mean you dont have to change the cartridge which is nice.

edit just found this regarding load time.

          https://twitter.com/SanDiskJP/status/837550339318411265

          Game card (top left)
          SanDisk Extreme microSD (top right)
SanDisk Extreme Pro microSD (bottom left)
          Internal memory (bottom right)

So looks like installing to internal memory is the fastest.

        • According to a quick google, onboard memory is fastest, then SD card, then cartridge.

    • Not out till 17th October for switch isn't it?

      • +1

physical copy is out later than estore copy.

        • Oh wow that's awesome 👍
          I'm off to Ebgames then

  • +1

Nice timing, my Switch is arriving today

    • From Scoopon?

      • Yep

        • I got mine today! Can't play it yet and can't connect to my works wifi :(

        • +1

          @ekto:

Mine is supposed to come today but good old Australia Post have screwed up.

It passed through my local facility at 7am today, but hasn't made it to my parcel locker.

          Clowns!

Edit: I take back what I said about Aussie Post. Just got a text saying it's been delivered!

          Much later than usual deliveries.

        • @chromium: You wont regret it! It's tonnes of fun!

Do they have a expiry date?

Feel like this would be a good deal for when they eventually bring in emulated classics like zelda.

    • I believe you can add the balance to your account and it will sit there until you buy something.

      • There is a limit on how much balance you can have though.

Right on time, Nintendo will start charging for online next year!

    • On Switch only, 3ds and WiiU are still free (until they turn it off..)

    • So if I purchase a game online I'll have to pay a monthly subscription?

      • They are planning to charge to use online services some time next year, bit like xbox live and PSN. They haven't released much details though other than we'll be able to play some NES games free.

  • How often do they go on sale?

    • +1

Infrequently, last time they were on sale was November last year.

    • +1

Once a year, twice if we're absolutely lucky.

    • Time to stock up!

  • +1

OK, do i sell my 4 games I own and buy them digital and buy heaps of credit. Can't believe how petty it is that it's annoying to change game cartridges.

    • how much do you like searching SD cards to find what game is installed where? Biggest issue I have with switch is small storage.

  • Okay, now can someone give me decent pros and cons about buying digitally? NBA 2K18 is $79 physically but digitally it will be $99 + memory space so why woul I buy digital?

Someone up top mentioned it's a pain to change cartridges so I guess that's a pro.

    • +1

Well physical you actually own the game and can lend or sell it when done with it.

    • It depends on the game to be honest. If it's a game you can see yourself constantly coming back to (like Splatoon 2), digital will definitely be more convenient. But like you said, be prepared to pay ~$20 extra from Target's price. But for a single-player title that you kind of just complete then shelf it, I'd recommend physical.

Changing cartridges is no more of a pain than changing discs. It might even be easier.

      • Discs are a lot easier for me. The flap on top of the cartridge slot is a pain in the ass to open if you lack nails.

    • +1

I believe you can restore digitall if you lose them (if you lose Switch).
You don't have to switch cartridges back and forth.

      But you can't sell them
But you can't lend it to friends.

    • The Switch, more than any other home console, benefits greatly from digital games because of its portability. I still feel the desire to have the big titled on physical (BotW, MK8D) but for smaller titles that you might want to pop into on the go (Snipperclips), it's convenient to not have to switch out cartridges.

    • Personally, I would only use the credit to buy games that are digital only. Physical is usually quite a bit cheeper for the ones available there.

  • I'm only recently back in the Nintendo game after sticking to XB/PS for a while. Is it usually cheaper to buy retail from Big W and the like than it is to buy from the Nintendo store?

    • +2

Significantly less to buy physical than digital (20% or so) most of the time. Buying from the target ebay store with a ebay 10% off code in the first few weeks of a games release is usually the cheapest (they often have sales when a game is first released, seem to slowly creep back up in price after that) Other than the annoyance of having to change cartridges there isnt much benefit to going digital in my opinion, plus you can always sell the physical release off easily once you are done with the game (and often for not much of a loss on what you initially bought it for on sale)

  • Fella clean out the gift cards at World Square NSW but about 12 x $15 cards are available.

    I just nabbed 2 x $15.

  • Can someone check the price of Breath of the Wild for switch on the Eshop? Can't view it via browser on PC, and switch hasn't arrived yet.

    • +2

      $89.95

      • Thanks dude.

Looks like it's cheaper to get hard copy off the 20% ebay sale

        • Yep, I think you'll find day 1 sales from Target/Big W are almost always cheaper than eShop pricing minus 15%.

    • Hey, In the same boat as you.
Don't forget to allow for the DLC addons also.

      • +1

Might go buy some cards then since the DLC is only available via the Eshop.

    • +2

      https://eshop.calyh.re/

this lists all the prices for all switch games the eshop in different countries and currencies (south africa is often the cheapest on the eshop)

  • can't find 1 $50 so i grab 2 $30

  • Any chance some would price match these? .. I have JB-Hi vouchers to burn.

  • Anyone got ideas of the digital pricing of Nintendo's main games on Switch?

I saw Zelda is $89 digital.
    How about Mario Kart?

A system with all games stored on the SD seems pretty attractive for a portable, would be keen to do that if the price delta isn't HUGE.

    • +8
      Game Price Price with Discount
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild $89.95 $76.46
      Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle $89.95 $76.46
      Mario Kart 8 Deluxe $79.95 $67.96
      Splatoon 2 $79.95 $67.96
      ARMS $79.95 $67.96
      • Thanks for that, pretty reasonable for MK8 for example.

        Appreciate your work.

  • Just bought some from Box Hill, Victoria.
    Heaps left still.

I had a gift card that needed to be used as well! Great timing

  • Just grabbed 2 X $60 cards.

Probably went overboard seeing as I'm going to go physical where possible

    • Doesn't take long really. I've only bought Snipperclips and Overcooked, but thats already $52. Even if you are only considering Golf Story and Stardew Valley for the rest of the year that's probably another $60.

      • I'll probably get the Zelda DLC as well

        • Good point, I bought that too.

        • I really wish this deal came out before the Zelda DLC. I waited until I could wait no more.

  • +2

Just in time to stock up on credit for the next batch of decent indie games !
My rule on Nintendo systems is if it's available in physical format i'll buy that over digital.

    • +1

Yep same here, there's plenty of digital only releases and DLC to spend this credit on. I'll grab the physical releases at bargain prices.

  • Just bought 4 x $60 cards.

I hate having to remember to carry around cartridges when I travel…

  • If anyone in Sydney is looking for stocks, eb burwood has heaps

  • Offer available until 30th September. Thanks to Vooks.

  • Ain't other regions like South African still considerably cheaper?

  • only work for Aust account?

  • +1

Thank you. This will save me a few bucks when Super Mario Odyssey releases.

  • Cranbourne Homemaker Centre EB Games had at least twenty of each denomination left. The girl had no idea they were on sale, I asked her to scan one of them and sure enough, 15% off.

Bought $150 worth. Thanks heaps OP!!

  • Does anybody know when this expires? If self explanatory my apologies I couldn't see an expiry date.

    • End of September technically. More likely to expire when they run out of cards maybe.

  • Might be worth keeping in mind Nintendo won't allow you to add more than $200 eShop credit to your account. I just bought $240 worth of cards and it won't let me add the last card.

    • Spend some of it then :). Planning on getting $300 myself. Should cover indie games and DLC for a while.

    • So ended up getting more than $200 and it let me add it fine. Maybe they changed the limit since you tried but it's now $300. Can check by picking add credit by credit card and it says it at the top.

  • Melbourne CBD doesn't seem to have any! :( Anyone had luck?

  • Ah thanks for the reminder. I'll grab $100 if the store I'm going to has any.

  • I just bought some in the store in Birkenhead Point and they still had some left

  • I purchased $90 worth for NBA 2K18 but decided I will wait for physical and bugs to be ironed out first. What do you think the chances of me selling these are at the price I purchased it?

Do digital Switch games go on sale at all?

    • Yes, some of the switch games have been on sale in the eShop e.g. Snake Pass was 40% off late June/early July and Robonauts is 10% off right now. There was another game that was 33% off a few weeks ago, can't remember which game though.

  • Is this promotion only valid at EB Games or can I pick up a couple of cards from JB HiFi?

  • Sign is still up in EB but I didn't try to buy.. wonder if it's still on sale?

    • +1

Probably wont scan up at that price. It's all programmed into the system/barcodes. My local salesperson didn't even know they were on sale.
