Not sure how wide this is, I collected my free Small Keep Cup at Mitcham station this morning, pretty neat idea to get people walking!

How would they know if we walked?

    • +1

I was questioning this myself. Probably had lie detectors all along.. Takes me 10 minutes to get to the station in the morning so yeah!

    • +6

Cause you weren't holding a broomstick XD

  • You've earned it !

  • +6

Get the bus/car/uber/magic carpet to drop you 100m away and you're good :)

    • -8

you should be banned from Ozbargain! :)

      • +23

You should be banned promoted to Power User

        FTFY ;)

        • +7

So a power user pays uber to get a freebie?

        • +1

@ets27: well you can use a discounted Uber card, a promo code and then go only a few kilometres and it would basically end up free anyway!
More like would you pay for a magic carpet? I've heard they're expensive.

        • @pennypincher98:

I couldn't find a magic carpet for less than $149.
Magic powder to power the magic carpet is sold for approx $50 per kg, might be cheaper with the current eBay deal but still not free.

        • @ets27: Don't forget cashrewards!

      • -3

Christ this site is getting horrible. No one takes a joke anymore. Me thinks it's a language barrier issue.

    • Well obviously.
I think this is more of an awareness campaign than an incentive to walk.

    • I have to walk 100m for this cup? No way !! :)

  • +2

Damn, I saw the dude with the boxes and gave him a solid look but he didn't say anything. Didn't see any signs either.
    This was at Mitcham.

    • +2

Had to give them a cold hard stare ;)

    • +21

      obviously not his type

    • Same. I thought they were targeting specific people. They seemed more interested in chatting to themselves rather than giving these out. If I didnt have to run to the train I might have grabbed one.

      • The longer it takes to get rid of the merchandise, the longer they are paid for

  • All out of cups

    • +5

Find someone on the train and share? 2 commuters 1 cup??

  • +1

Get rid of plastic bags and bring in plastic cups.

    • +3

      Reusable.

    • -5

      and get cancer even sooner

  • So did anyone actually see this at any train stations except Mitcham? I sure as hell didn’t.

      • +1

        Hey i'm renting!!

      • -4

Jesus. Touch crowd with the neg votes. It was a joke people.

    • +1

      Ringwood had them.

  • I have one but I still prefer to use my glass coffee cup, taste bad with this.

    • Prob should wash it first…

      • I have washed it several times.

        • +2

I've just got two negative votes on my similar reply.
Taste aside, I assume it is not commonly known to the public about how BPA-free does not guarantee much in terms of health either.
On the other side, the effects of heat+plastic+food/liquids are a no-brainer and plenty of research is available.
Go for glass, stainless steel, ceramic, aluminium instead.

        • @pentole:

I am OK with plastic cup but not silicone.

I got a free plastic one from Nespresso Vertuo it is OK.

        • @superforever:

          Why not silicone?

        • @serpserpserp:

I don't like those soft feel on a cup.

If you live in Cranbourne then you may as well walk … but keep walking; all the way to work, as you'd be lucky to catch a train to get you there. Last time I was in Melb, a few weeks ago, took 3 1/2 hours to get home. Apparently the all too common excuse; signal fault near Westall?? 5pm Pakenham train limped all the way to Dandenong where Cranbourne passengers told to wait outside for transport buses that would be provided. BS lies; waited for ever, none turned up … obviously none were ever ordered. I found a local bus leaving so took that. By the time it left yet another 15 minutes later, though apparently a train was made available for Cranbourne commuters. Dont know how the hundreds of stranded commuters managed to all fit on the train.

People expect some Skyrail disturbances on the line but not to be treated so badly. I think the Cranbourne line trains should be boycotted and all fares refunded. I'm not trusting the trains anymore and will be driving in; at least I should get home in a reasonable amount of time. Most people prefer to use public transport but not be treated like idiots.

"…and will be driving in; at least I should get home in a reasonable amount of time." <—- 😂

      • Quite serious … Driving in to Melb, paying for parking, driving home. Tomorrow probably. Driving is much more fun anyway; at least I don't have to be sitting on a cold train or waiting at a cold train station for a non existent bus. According to other passengers all too frequent.

        • Having spent several years living in Dandenong while working in Port Melbourne, the time spent stuck in traffic driving beats out time spent in or waiting for delayed trains by at least 10:1 in my experience. I would have taken the train every day if I could have.

          @dm01:
The last few years have been really awful for the Cranbourne commuters. I feel for them for what they are putting up with on an almost daily basis. It is not so bad if only travelling from Melb to Dandenong or Pakenham. Rapidly expanding areas here, insufficient parking available at station, so hit with a double whammy. Heard that the Frankston line commuters are even worse right now; station shut down completely for renovations!

        • +1

@JediJan: Ah ok. I think I've only ever been to Cranbourne once on PT so don't really know how it is that far out. To/from Dandy was always pretty good for me on the train. I found I had more issues when I lived closer to the city, due to the number of people catching the train from further out. I lived in Balaclava for a while and had occasions in morning peak hour where the first and sometimes second city bound trains to go through were completely full, and I'd just have to wait for the next one…and then the next one…

@dm01: We gave up on trains years ago when there was a really bad run on cancelled trains from Frankston in the mornings. We gave our weekly tickets money to Mother and she drove us in. Also after a bad season of colds, flu and pleurisy I found my health improved when I stopped travelling by trains too, so I started driving myself also. Found car commuting more peaceful with a few cassettes or radio. When young I also lived in Hawksburn, South Yarra and preferred the trams (20+ mins) as opposed to trains (10 mins); seemed more reliable … apart from the time tram driver decided to accelerate faster going downhill, so he could hit a car sitting on the tram lines waiting to turn. He did cop a bit of flack from his passengers for doing so!
One train I was in actually broke down between Richmond and Flinders Street … We had to climb down out of the carriages (no easy feat in skirts and heels) and walk along the train tracks! Hopefully all these train line upgrades; skyrail and level crossing removals, will see improvements in services. 🤞

  • mitcham only? I walked to my station and didn't see anyone!

  • +3

Damn. My train station is still a few months off being finished. I can walk there, but I'm not waiting there till it's built for a free cup.

  • -8

I walked to my station (Belgrave) today and no-one there giving out keep-cups. :(

  • No train stations on the Upfield line seemed to have them today. If they did, people would have got off the train to get them. Those damn northern hippies! ;)
