Wish you posted this before I sawed a shelf off my entertainment unit to fit a full sized receiver.

  • Good unit this one, we just purchased one for our main Board Room at work. Doing a great job, but we haven't exactly been pushing it hard!

  • I have the same issue, a full size receiver wont fit in my low line tv unit,
so I have been looking at the Harman Kardon AVR 171S which is not as tall as the others and may fit, need to measure.
Then ive seen these which would fit easily, JB has 2 models - NR1508 at $780 and the NR1608 at $1080.
will probably wait till ive done something about the tv as its due for an upgrade considering it randomly switches itself off and then back on.
though it has behaved for the last however long.

    • You also need at least an inch above the unit so it doesn't overheat.

    • I successfully increased the height of my low line unit. Have had it for over 4 years with no issues.

  • I've got one of the earlier models - NR1601 - and it hasn't missed a beat.

Was thinking of upgrading so good timing, however this is the version without Dolby Atmos isn't it? The 1608 has Atmos, from memory.

    Decisions!

    • Yeah the 1608 has Atmos, not this one. Still a good deal.

  • +1

could be time to make a dash on a denon before amazon geoblocks …..i’ve noticed some of the previous deals, already don’t deliver to australia.

    • Remember to select amazon.de in the sellers list.

  • Hi, what would be suitable for a Dolby Atmos & Dt X setup. I wish to start off - even import from amazon Germany if the deals good. Thanks

  • Great unit. Had the 1505 and 2607, since don't need the 1505 as I went active on that setup.

No better Slimline receivers than these. Great sound. Ignore wattage concerns with comparably priced full size receivers.

  • Wish the NR1608 had that discount.

    • Probably the lack of Atmos will drop the prices on them. Could be the new analogue only problem, or they'd hope.

  • ludicrous shipping great unit though - good post

  • Thanks OP, but how do you get it shipped to Australia? It says "This item does not ship to Australia."

    • ignore that and keep going accepts Australian address but the shipping cost is ludicrous…. unless they changed it…

      • Shipping weight 12.4kg so that makes sense. Also half of it have been paid by removing the VAT component.

Or you can buy it for about $780 locally.

  • Great deal and announced for future AirPlay 2 support.

Cancelled my Denon AVRX2400H order and ordered this instead. Don't need Dolby Atmos really…

  • I think I might get this to replace my 1971 JVC Quadrophonic Amplifier Receiver. Ahh, no I won't, I haven't had full value from the JVC yet AND quad sound is going to be the next 'big thing' .. :-) .. !!

    • CD-4 all the way.

  • Now EU299

    • Yes still the same price, €340 delivered.

  • would this suit a 2.0 setup at all? i really only need to power 2 bookshelf speakers

    • Yes but depending on your source you may not need this. If your source is not HDMI you can get stereo amp for much cheaper, or for about the same price but much better quality.

If your source is HDMI you'll need AV receiver like this to decode the signal. Then you can output to only 2 speakers just fine, or if you already have a stereo amp you can use this receiver's preamp output.

      • thanks! its just to run my tv sound (i run HDMIs directly to tv).. seems like many of the stereo amps I'm looking at don't have an optical in however.. by the time you go up in price with stereo amps to get optical included you may as well buy a 5.1 as they seem to be cheaper?

        • There are quite a number of stereo amps with optical input nowadays. If your requirement is just stereo, they're better than AV receivers for the same price, not to mention the size. This is one of the smallest AV receivers on the market yet it's about the same size as big stereo amps. However depending on your TV the optical out may not have the best sound quality although most should be fine.
