Good deal, but JB has had these slightly cheaper

    • Yeah, I got a pair during the sale. But still this is a great deal imo.

  • With a lonely planet book and TRS next month, it's almost as good as the previous JB's deal for me. Thanks, OP & doweyy!

  • which jb's deal?

  • +1

    1000xm2? I see 1000x

    • +6

Says "Model Number: WH1000XM2B, WH1000XM2N" in the description. Also previous gen didn't come in Gold

      • it looks like previous model does come in Beige/Creme/Gold, model MDR1000X/C, confirm? See sony website
        https://store.sony.com.au/archived/MDR1000XC.html

In the Qantas store, Title only show 1000X, but the photo, model and all its specs within the description do describes the WH1000XM2 not the MDR1000X.

I ll try to contact Qantas store support to confirm.

        Hopefully it is the WH1000XM2.

  • I am screwed, don't have Qantas points.

    • Ask a friend to transfer

      • +5

Dont you need to ask him thaf he has any friend first???

    • Don't buy that way you save 100% off RRP.

  • +2

Just picked up a pair of b&W px noise cancelling headphones for dirt cheap, collection complete. Wh1000xm2, QC35ii, px. Not sure if I would add the pxc550 again.

    17,000 points plus 250$

  • Has anyone compared the Sony to the new Audio Technica ANC700BT?

They are around the same price point.

  • Let's hope the Sony is as good as people make it out to be.

    • for the price it can't be beat

  • +2

Is this only a good deal only if buying with 2k points + cash OR do othrrs think just pure qff points is a good bargain?

    • Given how bad value qff points are these days… Maybe just spend the points?

    • yep, because Qantas points are lowly valued, if you do the OzB sell points for 1c per point, the 43000 points = $430, hence the Qantas store normal price of 86k points is rediculous.

But at $249 + 2000 points, that equals $269, cheapest I've seen for these

      Just ordered a pair.

  • +3

I purchased the SENNHEISER PXC550 last year using the same deal via Qantas.
didn't have enough points, so I bought more points.
Even then, it was nearly 50% off RRP.

Hands down, best head phones I have had and they are a a must have for flights.
The touch panel on the sides are REALLY handy.
Sound is clear and precise, no distortion. Bass is very decent.

I personally found them better than the Bose

    • Comfortable? The way it is designed looks warm after long use?

  • Thanks OP, bought a PXC-550

  • Is there gst if buying with points?

    • GST with the portion you pay with cash.

  • Which are the best ones? Sony Bose or sennheisers?

  • -2

Hay OP. Think you have the title wrong. Qantas are selling the older 1000XM & not the newer 1000XM2 model. Clearing old stock I think ?

    • +2

      Read specifications

      Specifications:

Headphone cable for wired operation (1.5m approx.)
USB cable (MicroUSB) for charging (50cm approx.)
      Travel-case, Airplane adaptor/operating instructions.
      Model Number: WH1000XM2B, WH1000XM2N

      • You are correct ! Thank you, just a dodgy title. Purchased one :)

The Bose QC35 is never on sale because it is still the most popular. I would rather spend a bit more to get Bose, knowing that few months down the road I can resell them on gumtree easily

    • +5

Or for the people who actually care about sound quality and looking at keeping their purchases, the Sony is the better buy.

  • Any reason why one wouldn't use quantas points to pay for these? Is that a horrific use of points even with this discount?

    • On paper, yes
But in reality, qff international flight upgrades are pretty hard to use unless you have Qantas status..

      • And don't you need to purchase flights with Qantas in the first place? Given I never fly Qantas is there any other reason to keep them?

        • You can use the points for Jetstar flights as well. I think most people here have the points through credit card sign ups like ANZ Black.

  • +12

I've got a pair of the Bose QC35, Sony 1000X (first-gen) and the Sennheiser PXC550. The PXC550 for this price is an absolute steal. In my view, the PXC sound better than the bose and are substantially lighter than the Sony. Also the Sennheiser has far superior BT connectivity than the Sonys (the Sonys cant connect to more than one device at once!).

The Sennheisers also have the CapTune app which is handy and lets you adjust NC levels and EQ levels, and supports "cross-talk" just like the Sonys (although Sennheiser's implementation isn't quite as slick - you need to double-tap the right earcup to activate it, while with the Sonys you can cup the right earcup to achieve the same effect).

Sennheisers and Sonys sound on-par for sound quality, the Bose is the best at NC but not by a substantial margin (the Sonys are really very much the same and the Sennheisers are only slightly behind because I can hear a very slight hiss in them when no music is playing).

Sadly, the Bose to my ears easily sound the worst out of the three - flat and distant. For this reason, I find it hard to recommend the Bose especially given they never go on sale.

    • -6

Well there is a reason why Bose never go on sale …

      • +4

Because Bose wants to create an illusion of premium with their brand.

      • +2

Because they are the apple of the sound world, and hated by audiophiles the world over because of it. For this reason alone I'd go the Sennheisers or the Sonys (but I had to buy a pair of the Bose to compare…I am brand-agnostic and know I can always flip them to a "boseophile" for what I paid for them :) )

      • -4

Not sure why I got downvoted for stating a fact.
Sure Sony or Sennheiser have better sound (that itself is subjective though)
But Bose is the POPULAR choice among consumers - can't go wrong with Bose is all I am saying

    • I am deciding between PXC550 and Sony 1000x, which one is more comfortable and battery life (I heard the Sony charges faster)?

      • +1

I don't really notice charge time sorry because i charge them overnight but they both last easily 20+ hours on a charge. the XM2s apparently have better battery life than the first gen 1000X (which is the one i have).

The Sennheisers are a very tight head-fit and have much thicker earcup padding than either the sonys or the bose so they are a "tighter" ear fit too. however I find i can wear the sonys and the bose for longer stints without getting headaches. That being said, I have noticed the Sennheisers are getting more comfortable over time (the headband is metal and is probably slowly adjusting to my plate-sized head).

To my mind, the perfect setup would have the NC and sound quality of the Sonys, with the lower weight of the Sennheisers/Bose and the better BT connectivity of the Sennheiser/Bose. Because of this, I find myself using the Sonys the most often these days.

        • +1

Thanks for the reply mate, I am set on the Sony…. but it's out of stock now :(

    • +1

Good review mate, so glad I grabbed PXC500 one.

I don't own Bose QC or Sony 1000X, so basically I'm noise cancelling virgin. Hopefully a good decision to lose it to Sennheiser PXC500. :)

      • You really can't go wrong with either of the three sets but I maintain that $250 + 2000 QFF points (worth about $20 by itself) is a real bargain for the Sennheisers.

        • -4

Honestly I would rather spend a bit more to get Bose

  • Quite tempting to buy using FF points. Collecting QF points to redeem for flights is not worth it any more with additional fees and charges adding up!

    • Sometimes you need to spend it, mate! lol

I have 300,000 smth points, and I just want to spend it, I haven't been flying anywhere in 2 years due to babies, and will not be planning anytime soon, it means, it makes me very itchy not to spend.

Again, I will only use it to upgrade to Business Class, never for the local one.

  • Grabbed PXC500 30000 pts and $82 (that's my only remaining fun fund this month).

    Thanks, great deal.

  • +2

Sony's out of stock for both colours. Do they normally tend to restock or have I missed out?

  • was about to post this, I got the xm2 for 43640 QFF points which = $230 (47500 points for a $250 GC). so far the lowest price for this unit if you have enough points.

    • +1

except QFF points are worth at least 1c per point so youve actually spent $436 worth of points to get the headphones, which is pretty poor value.

      • Points were free if you collected travelling for work so whilst 1c may be the conversion, if you actually didn't pay for the flights in the first place isn't it the best way to spend points and save your hard earned money? Spending on flight upgrades used to worth while but harder to get upgrades on the flights you want and the fees and charges are excessive.

        • There are buyers on OzB who will buy points for 1c

        • +4

Suppose you collected exactly 43640 points from your work flights.

If you sold the points, you'd have gotten $436.40 (minimum) for free
If you bought the headphones with points, you'd have gotten the headphones for free
If you sold the points and bought the headphones, you'd have gotten the headphones $123.40 and the headphones for free

Obviously there is effort involved in selling points, so whether that is worth it or not is up to you

        • @nubix:
I thought you could only transfer points between family. Things have changed!

        • @Craysee: That is still the case, I guess they get it all done before the enforcement comes in

        • @Craysee: Hi bro

      • Well, I got my points mainly from my amex qantas discovery card, few card referals and other promo. Normally I would just redeem the GC but the points needed for GC is getting higher and higher so for me this is really good deal as I missed the JB hifi & Costco deal for XM2 :)

  • +1

Thanks - have been thinking of a pair of BOSE QC35 for ages but got the Sennheiser instead. I had 2069 points :)

  • Will thay restock sony?

    • I saw a restock date on the website for the Sony’s. I think it was 30 may.

      • Thank you

  • Wish someone would go on special with the 1000xM2's…. gotta fly on the 9th of June. running out of time.

No QFF points here but I really don't see the bargain even if I did have the points. (as posted above - These can be got on special for around the same price you have to cough up plus the cost of 2000 points)

  • Just add my 2 cents to the 1 cent per point comment. These folks found it to be worth only 0.7 cents, which takes the cost of the Sennheisser to $300 using all points. Cash seems to be the way to go and an excellent deal, thanks OP.

  • Just got a call from Qantas store, told me it's out of stock and offered a bose qc35 as replacement. :(
    I ordered it ~8am

    • Which one did you order?

      • Sony.

    • +2

If it's the 2nd gen, you should jump on it…

    • +1

If it's 2nd gen, I'd take that offer if I were you! That's really damn cheap for QC35's.

    • Same here, got a call yesterday and told Sony was out of stock. Offered Bose QC35 series 2 as replacement. Took them up on the offer.

      • Same here as well.
Still waiting for the order to be shipped. Not sure what the hold up is.

    • Got the same reply today…It's the 2nd gen offered to me. I accepted and hopefully the delivery can be on time for my trip early next month…

  • Just a warning for people considering the PXC-550 - I got a pair at the 50% sale last year but had to return it.

Sound quality was definitely better than Bose but the noise cancelling by default switched off whenever it couldto save battery. This is all good except that it created a tiny pop sound when NC kicked in again. So in an quiet office setting, every time someone said something, I would hear a pop a few seconds after. It was getting very annoying after some time. Sennheiser's engineer said it was not a fault so got a refund instead of a replacement unit.

    • +1

Can't say I've noticed this at all. There is a physical switch on the bottom of the unit to toggle 100% NC/50% NC (or variable NC through the CapTune app) or NC off.

      • +1

Yeah it was the adaptive NC, forgot to mention that there was no problem when NC was always ON.

  • +6

can be got (price matched without the points) from JB Hifi for anyone that's interested. $293

    Credit to Ace on Whirlpool.

    http://bit.ly/2rXxXFB

    • Nice!

    • +1

tried to price match at JB. They wouldn't cause it's out of stock :(

    • Tried to price match at JB Hi-Fi in World Square Sydney. They wouldn't match the 1000X(M2) because it was out of stock but the manager also refused to price match the PXC 550, even though I showed him Ace's image of the docket. Spoke to the Area Manager and he confirmed that they wouldn't match but did offer me a deal that was close but slightly higher.

  • My order got delayed on the Sony's because they had to verify my identity (first time purchasing on the store). Not sure why it took them three days to call me.

    • I have got no phone call or email yet. I ordered on 21/5 and the status is still 'Processing'. wth?

    • I've sent them an email complaining about the "stuck" processing two days ago. Just now I got an email about the delay, new eta for delivery is on 07/06. Bullshit.

Just turned the alerts ON again and will cancel the order as soon as I can get this price or lower

    • Yup, same here. ETA is the 6th of June. Not in a huge rush for these but would love to get my hands on these bad boys ASAP.

  • Got the pxc550 bcs 1000xm2 was out of stock, hopefully no regret. Since all the review i saw was saying 1000xm2 is the best amongst the 3: qc35 pxc550 n 1000xm2.

Can any1 shed more lights between the two (pxc550 vs 1000xm2)?

I ve read all the post above.

    • Regrets?

      • yea a little bit of regrets, but then again I havent really tried the qc35 or 1000xm2.

Im having issue with the smart pause on the pxc550, it doesnt work properly. battery life is good. ANC is not that great. comfy is allright.
I might try the 1000xm2 next time.

        • Bass is sub par?

  • +3

Went to JB Hifi at Garden City, Brisbane yesterday and got them to price match the Sony WH1000XM2 at $293. Wasn’t even a hassle, just quickly showed them the price on the Qantas store and they pretty much bargained down for me.

    • +3

Are you able to upload or PM me a copy of the receipt? Going to try my luck as well.

  • +1

Thanks EC, PXC-550 got delivered today for dad and he loves them! Will come in handy for the upcoming trip.

Funnily enough, they came from JB Hi-Fi.

    • Mine came from JB Hi-Fi as well (ordered from the Qantas store). Really annoyed at the lack of price match now!!

  • My order for the Sony 1000XM2 was cancelled :(. Out of stock. But offered Bose QC35 Series II as replacement

  • They offered me Bose QC35 Series II as replacement. 1000XM2 out of stock.
