ASUS STRIX Vega64 8GB PCIe Video Card PN ROG-STRIX-RXVEGA64-O8G-GAMING Special - $999 + Shipping @ Computer Alliance

110

This is the best AMD card on the market right now, and the best price we've seen all year.

Reduced from $1595 apparently. Currently $1,299.00 at scorptec.
They also offer free local pickup in Brisbane.

As for where it sits, it's pretty similar to a GTX1080 so that might be a better choice for gamming.
Reasons for gamers to consider this would be if you have a freesync monitor, or if you just prefer AMD.

Obviously miners would choose this card as it's the best card for mining Monero (XMR). This might help it hold value for longer.

  • Will this be better than a GTX260?

    • +5

      probably not

    • you serious ?

      YES , unless you're rocking pentium 4

      • aka the as-yet-unannounced 1160

    • +3

Yeah, much better than a GTX260 but can't compare to a GTX280. LOL

    • +2

Gtx260 use less power so its better for the environment.

    • Only slightly, but not as good as a TNT2 Ultra.

  • Monero is one of the few legit cryptos.

    edit: nevermind :)

  • Is it me or has the price of graphics card shot up a lot in the last few years? I don't remember graphics cards being this expensive.

      • I've been out of the PC building game for too long to realise that people used graphics card as a way to mine crypto. Now that I am looking to build a PC, I am shocked at the prices.

    • It's just you.

    • crypto mining and also memory shortage apparently.

dont say that, someone might downvote you. lulz

lol, I saw you get shredded for posting that youtube link on the other Vega deal.
Edit: I mean, you don't see us negging property investors for putting up the price of houses.

We're all just doing what we can to provide for ourselves and our families.

Damn, didn't expect to see the vega's dropping in price any time soon, time to rummage through the couch cushions.
The miners must all be holding out for the yet to be released ASIC's or potentially the unannounced Nvidia cards.

I'm not a miner at all so I hate what that has done to hardware prices and know that I would probably be better served jumping on the less crypto efficient current gen Nvidia offerings, but I am a Hackintosh user that is trying to build an optimal content creation machine so the performance per dollar on a card like this is really well appreciated. (Mac OS has horrible native performance support and utilisation for team green probably stemming back to an age-old grudge and team red is natively supported giving better real-world performance within Mac OS).

We've actually been selling because mining isn't profitable right now. Oddly, this card is the most profitable for mining right now, but we don't want to buy these for mining right now because they're expensive and it's too risky.

Sorry about that. We have a strong demand for them because they've been making us a lot of money (like people buying 2nd or 3rd properties in Australia) but we aren't intentionally inflating prices.

      well appreciated.

      You're welcome.

I didn't know about this actually regarding OSX. This is also the case for Linux, the opensource AMD drivers are pretty good now, and better than the Windows drivers for OpenGL.
